IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card:

Describe an interesting place in your country that is not visited by many tourists.

  • Where is this place?
  • What do you like about it?
  • How do you go there?
Sample Answer

India is a multicultural country with diverse geographical attractions. It is not possible for the visitors to visit all the tourist destinations here in a limited amount of time. This leads to a few places being visited less often as compared to others. Uttarakhand is home to a few such sites that are difficult to reach as they are nestled deep into the Himalayan mountain ranges.

One such place is Deoria Taal, a lake situated on a hilltop near a village called Saari. Located at a distance of 250 kilometers from the state capital Dehradun, it is a quaint lakeside place that has become a tourist spot due to its beautiful surroundings and breathtaking views. One can clearly see two of the tallest peaks in the Himalayan range from the view point near the lake. The diversity of the flowers and the trees, coupled with the serenity of the water body provide a soothing and calm environment to the visitors, making it an ideal spot for a weekend visit.

It can be reached after a hectic and tiring three-kilometer trek to the top of the hill, rendering it inaccessible for many visitors. The nearby area is surrounded by dense forests on high peaks and is scarcely uninhabited. There is a lot of wildlife that comes to the lake to drink water, making it difficult to reach the shores. The lake is a freshwater lake with a grassy area next to it making it perfect for camping in the lap of nature. It is easier to access in summers than winters, and a few select tourists come to camp here during their vacations.

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card:

Describe a development in your city. (E.g. shopping center, club, etc.)

  • what development is it?
  • where is it located?
  • What are its features and benefits?
  • How often do you visit it?
Sample Answer

I live in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand state. It is a prominent city in the region and is the home to many markets, complexes, and offices amongst other buildings. The most recent development in the city is the Promenade shopping complex which is the largest shopping mall in the city. It is located in the center of the city near the clock tower.

A huge and marvelous building with an all-glass front, it is splendid to look at. It is a five storey building with two extra floors dedicated to the parking space in the basement. It has many large showrooms occupied by different brands. Each floor has small shops, confectionaries and food vendors in the central area and a dedicated food court on the top floor. The place has a vibrant mix of colors with the ambient background lighting and other subtle décor materials.

It is a great place for an outing and offers a comfortable and eventful visiting experience. Besides the shops and showrooms the complex houses a cinema hall, a children’s playing area, and other modern amenities blended into the building. The staff is very nice and helpful, and the brands have all the latest products available. I have been to it many times with family and friends, and have enjoyed my visits thoroughly. I visit this complex mostly on the weekends for watching movies, shopping or having lunch in any cafe over there.

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card: Describe a time when you arrived very early for an interview

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card:

Describe a time when you arrived very early for an interview.

  • What was the occasion?
  • Where did it take place?
  • What did you experience?
Sample Answer

Punctuality is a very prominent character trait and is very necessary for making a lasting impression. I always try my best to reach everywhere on the notified time. This gives an advantage in every situation as I have made a habit of being punctual. I’ll talk about an incident wherein I had an appointment for a job interview.  I was very nervous and in that state of mind I ended up reaching an hour before the interview time.

Even though I was early, I went in and gave my resume to the receptionist. I was shown into the waiting hall and the interviewer came in. She seemed to be a polite lady and asked me the reason behind my early arrival. I was embarrassed and made an awkward excuse along with an apology. She accepted and advised me to wait until the designated time.

I patiently sat until the interview time and spoke to the existing employees who came by. They gave me more details about the processes and the company profile. I became more aware and these details helped me to prepare for the interview in a better manner.

I finally rethought my line of answers and confidently gave the interview. I was cleared for the position and then I asked the interviewer about other important issues such as the salary and leaves. The lady praised my foresight and attentiveness and cleared all my doubts. Even though arriving for the interview before time was unintended but it turned out to be a beneficial experience for me at the end of the day.

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card: Describe a time when you were encouraged by other people.

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card:

Describe a time when you were encouraged by other people.

  • Where and when did this happen?
  • Who gave you encouragement?
  • What did you do?
Sample Answer

Motivation and encouragement are two key factors for success. They can boost one’s morale and self-esteem. I have been encouraged by my near and dear ones whenever I undertake a new task or responsibility. One such memorable incident was when I had to appear for a job interview after clearing my graduate degree. As it was my first job interview, I was highly nervous and scared of possible rejection. While getting ready in the morning my mother noticed me sweating and called me to sit down and talk to the elders of the family. They sat down with me and spoke to me about my preparation for the interview.

I listened to everyone with enthusiasm as they told me their interview experiences. They started telling me ways to be confident and be sure of myself. I was told that I had many good qualities and skill sets that were important for the job. Such kind words motivated me and I could definitely feel the exciting surge of adrenaline rushing through my nerves. They all gave me positive thoughts and urged me to go for the interview with their encouraging statements.

I then went ahead for the interview and after half an hour of a test and tough questions, I was cleared for the position. I felt the change of my state from being nervous to feeling confident due to the encouragement that my family gave me. I went back home and thanked everyone with the wonderful news of my selection. Since then, I always go and talk to them whenever I feel the need for their supporting words.
