Not really. I remember as a child I used to be one of the children who couldn’t even draw a line straight. The kind of children art teachers felt pitty about. But, yes, I do love playing with colours. So, creating something with colours and the other materials like glasses or the garbage materials I am pretty good at them. So, I do like designing but creating portraits or scenery, I really am not good at them.

Do you think art classes are necessary?

Definitely yes. Art is the one subject, I believe, that allow you to be creative. So, here nothing is right or wrong, it is about what you could think of. It allows children to realise the happiness of creating something and it is powerful.

How do you think art classes affect children’s development?

Art is very essential for the development of a child. It helps children in learning a language. It is through the colours and shapes, action that they learn activities. Also, it helps children in making decisions. The experience of making decisions and choices in the course of creating art creatures carries on to life. So, a child who cannot even decide the color to chose surely has some decision issues in life. And there is so much more, a child learns culture and visual learning.

What kind of paintings do people like?

This is a choice, I believe varies among people. So, there are some people who like paintings of a scenic beauty and then others who like self potraits only. I have even met people who like only sketches, so no colors for them. Too an extent, the choices we make do define us and people’s taste do differ.

What benefits can you get from painting as a hobby?

Painting allows us to be creative, to make choices and helps in healing. So, it is not just about painting the perfect potrait but about letting your thoughts on the paper. When people do it , it really affects their psychology making them happier and more content with life.

I do like visiting museums and art galleries but not very often. So, there is no list that I have for all the museums that I need to visit. But surely, yes, I ever I stumble upon them I do go and visit the place.

Do you think going to museums and art galleries is beneficial for children?

I think definitely yes. Museums enlighten children about their history and knowing the history is important to have a better understanding of the present. Art galleries on other hand help a child to improve their visual analytics power. It is when the child tries to understand what the painting is about, they develop the analytical skills.

What kind of things do you like to draw?

Yes, it is easy to learn how to draw the basics. But, in my opinion, just like everything it requires lot of patience and love to master the skill of drawing.

IELTS Speaking Sample Answer # Prejudices

Prejudices are the preconceived notions that are not based on any reason or actual experience. There are so many of them that exist in our society, some believe that woman don’t have much physical power, others are of the opinion that if don’t go to the temple, you are likely to fail and so many more. We all are surrounded by them, no matter we accept them or not, we have to face them every day. Let us today have a look at some of the questions related to prejudices.

Are women highly regarded in your society? Why?

There are so many female goddesses that we as Indians pray and in so many of the festivals, women are taken as deities and prayed. We have got many female CEOs and some great female politicians. In the workforce, there are a lot many more women but yet, it is often that the advantages that woman get are at an upper level. Delving deeper one finds that there are a lot of prejudices that they have to fight in our society. Respect is surely given to woman but only when they achieve or do things in the boundaries of society.

Are men highly regarded in the community?

There is a little bit of advantage that men do get, but the situation has improved a lot since a few decades. Now, men are not the only highly regarded community, but a shift from gender-based classification to rank based classification is being done. However, in the poorer sections of society most of the time, men do get a lot of regards.

Are there gender role biased issues in your country? What are they?

With globalization happening and a lot of protests, there are not many gender-based issues that do come in picture. There are a lot of laws and awareness to ensure that woman and men can walk through different phases of life together. Recently, SEBI asked all the private companies to ensure a certain number of woman on the board. However, there are certain gaps that need to be filled, like there is a certain period extension when woman try to move to the higher ladders of the corporate sector or maybe fewer people helping if a woman wants to open her own company.

prejudices

Are women workers often promoted at their workplace?

Yes, they are, mostly it is if you are talented enough, you do get the promotion. However, it is often said, that after a certain time or more precisely after a certain designation, a woman finds it difficult to get promoted.

Do gender issues affect the development of a country?

Surely they do. A country with more equality and healthy environment is more likely to prosper in every phase because there won’t be any dissatisfaction in the minds of the citizens of the country. However, if there are gender issues, it gets likely shown in the characteristics of the individual, because then there is that one gender which thinks that they are superior and the other feels dominated. So, the things that could have been achieved better together, lose the entire hope of happening.

Why do you think we need to discuss issues about gender?

The main reason is that until all the genders are happy living in a country, there is only a little progress that a country can make. Moreover, there will be fewer people who will be happy. Even more, when a citizen decides to live in a country, just like it is the responsibility of the individual to follow the rules and regulations of the society, it is the duty of the country to ensure that the person is able to enjoy life freely.

What, if any, measures has your national government implemented to combat gender-based discrimination or prejudice?

Our government since the time of independence has tried many laws, rules, and regulations to ensure that there is no discrimination based on gender. There are Swadhar and short homes to give shelter to destitute women. Working woman hostels are made for the woman who works away from their home to ensure their safety. Rashtriya Mahila Kosh has been made to provide micro-finance services to bring about the socio-economic upliftment of poor women. Then there is one Stop Centre to provide integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence. I believe there is a `lot the government is doing and we all need to join hands to ensure a safe and equal society.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Handwriting

We are living in an age of computers and technical devices. Gone are the days when people used to note down important things in notebooks. With smartphones becoming so accessible, people prefer using them for notes. This time we are looking at some of the questions related to the methods of writing that can be asked in IELTS speaking section.

Do you usually write by hand or you use a computer to make notes?

I have been working with computers professionally for around 2 years now and having used computers extensively, making notes on computers is very much easier for me than writing by hand. Even more, because of the lost practice of writing, it becomes really hard to pick a pen and write. So, I prefer using computers.

How do most people write things now a days?

Most people of my age use their smart phones to make simple notes. But, the elderly, I think still rely on paper based writing. For example, making the grocery list. Other creative people like writers also prefer diary writing over computer notes.

Do you think computers might one day replace handwriting?

Definitely yes. I think the speed with which we are adapting technology, it is very much possible that our next generation would be dealing with computers all the time. It is highly unlikely that handwriting will be replaced by computers in schools in the near future. But, for professional work, digital notes in their full form are just around the corner.

When do children begin to write in your country?

Most of the children start writing by the age of 4, i.e. when they go to school. But, then there are some children who learn to write when they are about 5 or 6.

How did you learn to write?

I lived in a joint family so there were lots of people around me who were interested in teaching me. So, I learnt to write with the help of my brothers and my mother. They used to write letters in the notebook and I was given task to copy the letter or write above it.

Do you think handwriting is very important nowadays?

Definitely yes, handwriting is an important thing. No matter, how much we have moved towards digitisation, good handwriting does save a day. When people are always working on computers, to be able to write allows the mind to function in a different way, making it active.

How can children today improve their handwriting?

The only thing that can help is practice and doing it perfectly. So, parents can buy practice books which focus on developing handwriting.tr For instance, cursive books. Children should try to imitate the way things are written there. It is by imitating good handwriting can a child learn how to write properly.

What impression does a person’s handwriting have on other people?

No matter how far we have moved with technology, a good handwriting is a sign of a creative mind. So, when people look at someone whose handwriting is beautiful, he/she is assumed to be of high intellect or having artistic qualities.

Do you love writing?

I do like writing and can write about almost everything. I love writing journals and letters.

Do you prefer writing letters or emails?

I prefer letters because I think, surely emails reach faster, but with letters, there are lot of emotions attached. The wait for letters makes them much more exciting to read.

Do you think some people are still addicted to writing letter?

Very few on that note. Generally everyone prefers letters but there are some who are crazy about them. My mother is one such person. She is so fond of letters that no matter how many other things I give to her, every letter that I write makes her happier than anything in the world.

What are the main differences between handwriting and writing on a computer?

With handwriting, there is nothing called erase. What’s written is written and the only thing you can do is cut it, but not erase. With computers, you can just write down whatever you want to and editing becomes so much easier with it. Also, you can move the data quite quickly if it was written on a computer. You can mail it, store it in a Google drive, whichever way suits well. With handwriting it is more real and there is only one real copy for everything written. Both of them have their positives and negatives. For quick results, it is better to go for writing on a computer but for more personal, handwriting is still the best option.
