SAMPLE ANSWER-

My country, India is quite recognized for its rich and prosperous history. One such historical period was the Indus Valley civilization that existed long back but its prevalence was recently revealed in the 1900s by an Archeological survey. It was believed to be the core of art and culture during those days.

When I first studied about this civilization in class and the planning of this period’s urbanization, it captivated me to a great extent. It was the first time that I took interest in history while learning about this time period. I learned that even in that era when there were limited resources available, the people of Indus Valley civilization enjoyed a highly developed city life.

This mysterious civilization was situated on the banks of the river Indus, the present day Pakistan. I think that it’s an important part of the historical culture as the town-planning and water management system which the people followed during that time is an excellent example for the modern world. Despite the absence of educational facilities, it is said that people who belonged to this time period had built well equipped sanitary facilities and harvesting system as well. When I further looked at the remains of artifacts of this civilization, I was actually convinced that citizens of this civilization led a comfortable and luxurious life.

I’m keen to learn more this time period and what led to its destruction. Though the town had well managed farming and architectural construction, archeologists are carrying on their research related to the specific cause of its disappearance. It is said that today’s world has a lot to learn about urbanization and administration from the remains of the Indus Valley civilization.

I was assisting my dad in clearing out the unwanted items from our storage area. From there, we were removing a number of damaged and useless objects. As I was clearing, I noticed a pot that was in horrible state resting amid the garbage.

I took it to my father after picking it up. He informed me that his grandfather purchased it, to store pickles, but it is now useless. I asked to keep it with me, and he granted my request. I had to clean it a lot because it was in the worst possible state. I succeeded after giving it succeeded after giving it multiple soap and water washes. The pot was a stunning specimen of old art, with its dark tone and finely painted designs.

My father looked at it for a long time and grinned when I showed it to him. He claimed it brought back memories of his granddad. In my room, I utilized it as a flower planter. The family’s collective gasp at the exquisite conversion of a shred into a gorgeous pot was shared by all. It’s my favourite pot out of all of them, and I still have it in my room. • Where would it be?
  • Why would you like to live in this house/apartment?
  • How do you feel about this house/apartment?
Sample Answer

Home is where the heart is and having a own house is on the top of my bucket list. Ideally, I don’t fantasize about living in a house that is too spacious. Rather, I’d love to reside in an abode that allows me to have my peace of mind all day long.

Firstly, it will be a one-storied bungalow inspired by the design of the Victorian Era. I want my house to be on the slap bang of the city, surrounded by nature. The covered area should be 2000 sq. Ft and it would have 5 rooms with one master bedroom. Every room would have a balcony from where beautiful views of snow- covered mountains is visible. There should be enough empty space around so that I can have a perfect view of the mesmerizing surroundings.

Apart from this, I am really desiring that my house should be loaded with all sorts of mod cons. Including, a gym, a gigantic pool, a game Centre with a home theatre with recliners and a table tennis table to help me enjoy my time during my free time. At the top of it, I really desire a large L- shaped kitchen with a glass cabinet, dishwasher and a 12- seater dining table. Finally, in the open space there should be separate parking slots for the 4 wheelers.

I would love to reside in this apartment because it will be filled with all the comforts anyone could dream of. Besides, it would allow me to stay close to nature and far away from hustle and bustle of city.

Talk about a product from your hometown.

  • You should say:
  • What it is
  • How it is made
  • What it is used for
  • And explain its significance in your hometown

IELTS CUE CARD Talk about a product from your hometown

Sample Answer

Today I will talk about a product from my hometown. I come from a small village in Ghana, my native lands have a rich history in handicrafts production and development. But for now I shall focus on the most versatile of them all; the basket.

Our handmade baskets were traditionally made from fibrous materials such as plant roots, backwoods, vines, banana leaves, cane and papyrus. These were naturally decomposable if rather flimsy. A good basket made in the traditionally manner could last two to five years. Now however, baskets are commonly made of plastic, wire, and in some cases, recycled materials. These have a far longer lifespan and not all are eco-friendly.

When I refer to a “basket” I imply a woven material crafted into all manner of shapes for all manner of different uses. Most young girls are taught from a young age how to braid these materials into cases, trunks, jar like containers, jewellery boxes, carry bags, winnows; anything with in the realm of possibility.

That’s why you can never find two identical genuine handmade baskets. There will always be something different among them, be it the structure, pattern, shape, lid, row count or material, anything can vary.

The art of crafting baskets is a cherished tradition. With the tourism industry booming, handmade baskets are a very good income for a rural household. This also gives some power back to the females of the village, in a male-dominated society, they still have a voice, because it is their craft keeping the family afloat. During farming season, the grains are winnowed and sifted.

The grains, herbs and spices are stored in cases and jars. They are transported in carry bags to the market. There is hardly a task in my village one can think of that does not pay homage to the art of weaving.

In this way, the basket is more than just a product for our village, it is survival, it is our voice, and it is our craft. (333 Words)
