IELTS Cue Card – Exciting Situation

Often in life, we get into some exciting situations, the kind where we do not know what exactly needs to be done, but the mere fact that there will be so much fun gets us dragged into it. This time we are looking at a recent IELTS cue card that talks about an exciting situation one has been into.

Describe a situation that was new and exciting for you.
You should say:

  • when was it?
  • when did it happen?
  • what did you do?

and explain why it was exciting and how you felt about it?

SAMPLE ANSWER

Over a period of time, I have realised that if you love doing something, it always brings new opportunities and excitement in life. Today, I am going to talk about a thrilling day I got to spend because of my job. It was a few years back, and I was working for a writing company back then. My job was to create new blogs for their website, and it was mostly working from home. However, I used to often go to the office to meet the staff and my senior for input on the website.

One day, my senior asked me to write a script for the product the company will be releasing in the upcoming quarter. It sounded so exciting to me that once I had written the script, I thought the work was done. Until one day I was told that I would be the assistant director for the shoot. The day of the shoot came on a fly. On the day of the shoot, I got to meet the best photographer of our town and then a really good actress. The entire day went by in cuts and retakes, and it was really exciting.

The mere fact that I was on the sets of a shoot gave me goosebumps. The takes and retakes made me feel as if I were a director. I remember coming back home late and my mother scolding me, but it was the best day I had lived in some while, and nothing else mattered.

IELTS Cue Card – Creative Person

Creative people are those who do things differently. Not necessarily; they do different things, but they even do the same things differently. These are often described as the people who built things and changed the ways. This time we are discussing a cue card on the creative person who met in your life.

Describe a creative person you admire :

You should say –

  • who the person is?
  • how you know that person?
  • what they do that is creative?

and explain why you admire that person?

SAMPLE ANSWER 1

There have been many people I have met over the course of years, but I remember one particular person I was amazed at. It was during our college days, and he was our classmate, Avinash Singh Rathore. I remember him as one of the guys who would make amazing cartoons and had great writing skills.

We were partners in crime because of our consecutive roll numbers. So, we would sit at the last seat and then would write about the events happening in the class. We would make fictional characters and then write stories together. He would be the one who would make amazing cartoons, and I would write down the conversation. By the end of the day, we would post it on Facebook and have a great laugh!

The reason I really admired him was because he was very calm and yet so smart. His opinion on the world was so different from others’, and I loved it.

SAMPLE ANSWER 2

The one person that comes to my mind when I hear “creative” is my father. Since my childhood, I have seen him fixing things that everyone rejects. Making new things from what is left over. According to him, nothing is ever wasted. Its utility to achieve one thing is over now, and now it can be used for something else.

Once a bed broke in our house, and when everyone else was thinking of where it should be thrown, my father made a beautiful desk out of the bed. I think creativity is not just about drawing things out or writing something beautiful. It is about leading a life in ways that are different from others. And on that, my father has surely led a beautiful life.

The reason I really admire him is because when everyone is busy in the hustle and bustle of life, he is the one person who has remained calm and yet achieved things that left people awestruck.

IELTS Cue Card – New Year Celebrations

With every ending comes a new beginning. The new year is the time when people try to forget their old ways and make resolutions to become better individuals. It is also the time when people party and often loose control. Apart from them, there are still so many people who do not understand the concept of New Year, that there is always hope in life. This time we are looking at sample questions that could be asked in the IELTS cue card section related to the New Year celebrations.

Describe a new year celebration that you still remember. You should say :

  • with whom did you celebrate?
  • what did you do in the party?
  • why is it so special for you?

Also, explain the importance of new year parties in your life?

SAMPLE ANSWER 1

I am 23 now and consciously attended around 12 parties. But I think the one party that I remember and cherish the most is the one we had in our first year of graduation. I had cleared a competitive exam, and during the new year our exams were going on. So, no question of going home. We all were feeling a little low, but at around 11 at night, we heard music. All of the students in our hostel wing came out only to find that our warden had organised a DJ and stuff to eat. He asked us all to join us. Overwhelmed by his gesture, we all went down and danced the whole night.

I remember dancing with around 400 people to songs I had never heard, in languages that I didn’t understand, but it was pure fun. We all became good friends after that and had a blast for the next four years of our graduation. I think the one reason I cherish it the most is because it brought with it a lot of new things for me. I met new people and did things I never did. Like, dancing like a serpent and then like a girl. We were purely enjoying ourselves. There was no senior or junior, just a bunch of people living the moment.

Although ‘party animal’ is not the word that I would choose for myself. But, yes, I do party on New Year. For me, it is the time when I meet all the people I know, the ones I care for. Most probably, go out travelling with them. I believe life is busy, and we should just grab every occasion that we get to enjoy.

NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS

SAMPLE ANSWER 2

New year celebrations have never been very exciting for me, but I remember the 2016 New Year. It was the best new year I had to date, and I assume it to be the best to date.

It was during the end of 2015 that there were a lot of personal and professional issues I was struggling with. For some reasons, I started feeling as if this is how life is going to be for a longer run now. Sitting on my couch when everyone else was partying, I remember crying and feeling really bad.

At around 11:30, a really good friend of mine, with whom I recently had a fight, dropped by me. She had been my school friend, and we had shared a lot of things together. Fighting with her did have an impact on me. She had beer with her, scooty keys, and we just left the home together.

When the entire world was partying outside, I remember feeling the air and then reaching our school terrace and drinking beer. We revived our memories together, things that we had done and how life had just changed in some years. How quickly we had grown up. There was nothing particular, but having that kind of talk actually rejuvenated me. It made things so much easier for me. Since that year, every year we meet at our school terrace for a bottle of beer and lots of memories together.

I think New Year parties are a good way of celebrating, and everyone should celebrate New Year, but I believe everyone should enjoy it in the way that best suits them.

IELTS Cue Card – Childhood Skill

We all are the ultimate result of the skills that we learn. There are people who can paint well and, for that matter, some who can play games or write. And it takes the time to build those skills. Skills even as simple as typing can help people go a long way. This time let us have a look at a recent question asked in the IELTS Speaking section.

Tell us about a skill that you have learned in your childhood.
  • What is that skill?
  • How has it helped you in your life?
  • Did your teachers, parents played an important role in nurturing the skill?
Also explain, if you think learning can be done best when someone gives their heart into it or they are forced to do it?

SAMPLE ANSWER

The one thing that has really helped me in my life is my control of keys on the keyboard. I learnt to type when computers had yet not gained much momentum, and we really did not know that it would be of so much use in the near future. However, I really am thankful to my father, who helped me work on it. So, when other children were busy learning by writing things in their notebooks, I used to make my notes on the computer and get them printed.

The entire thing came back to me only when I took up a job as a blogger. When one is writing something, it is good to have the entire focus on what needs to be written rather than how it finally gets entered. My typing speed has not only helped me write better articles but also type them fast, giving room for more assignments and so more money.

Even more, being a coder, it is nice to have control of the keyboard. After all, it is a way by which you can actually interact with the CPU and get things done. Better control means things are done faster and there is less frustration over petty matters.

I believe children need to be exposed to all the new possibilities around them and then let them decide what they actually want. Even if they are indecisive, they should be allowed to try their hand at more than one thing. With time, they as well as teachers and parents will know the one thing the child will be best at.
