Essay # Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not local people.

IELTS Writing Task # Essay

Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not local people. Why this is the case and what can be done to attract more local people to visit these places?

Sample answer-

Museums and historical places around the world hold significance as they have valuable artifacts that are not available elsewhere. Though museums attract a lot of tourists, the locals do not consider local museums and historical places entertaining.

There are several reasons why local residents do not find museums interesting. First and foremost, the local habitants have been brought up in those areas and have seen the historical places of their area hence these historical places might not arouse their interests anymore. The locals prefer visiting faraway lands and exploring other historical places in comparison to the local places. The hefty entrance fee that historical museums charge may not seem feasible to the locals.

There are several actions that can be taken with the intention to appeal to the local population to visit the local museums. Primarily, community activities being organized by the museum like exhibitions and cultural events will help gain its popularity as most of these historical places are non-profit organizations. The media can also use used as a source to commercialize and promote museums at a local level. A subsidized amount of fee charged from the natives will also attract a large number of local history enthusiast to pay a visit to these historical sights.

To conclude, museums and historical landmark play a crucial role in understanding the culture and the historical background of a particular area. If the locals pay more attention to local museums, it will make them more popular on a larger scale therefore, attract more tourists. The government can also provide attractive offers to natives to visit the historical sights.

Essay # In today’s job market it is far more important to have practical skills than theoretical knowledge.

IELTS Writing Task 2 # Essay

In today’s job market it is far more important to have practical skills than theoretical knowledge. In the future, job applicants may not need any formal qualifications.

To what extend do you agree or disagree?

Sample answer-

Practical skills and theoretical knowledge are two completely far-off approaches to learning. While theoretical education will help one to get a clear understanding of the fundamental concepts and how a particular mechanism works. But without practical knowledge one cannot put their efficiency into practical usage. In my opinion, in today’s job market theoretical knowledge’s importance cannot be entirely overlooked.

Formal qualifications help a person learn why and how skills are used and implemented. It is more preferable in today’s job market as without theoretical knowledge tasks cannot be performed in a job. The theory is important from a job’s point of view because it gives a deeper insight into a context. In fact, professionals like teachers, lawyers, doctors cannot execute work without formal qualifications and a degree.

On the other side, some people disagree as they think practical skills are far more important for a person’s functioning at a professional place. Certain things can only be learned through experience and performance. For instance, for a designer or an artist practical skills like creativity and innovative ideas that they gain with training is more beneficial that theory. Similarly, there are many people who were college drop-outs but presently they are doing wonders in their lives.

In the end, theoretical knowledge and practical skills are interconnected as they complement each other. Therefore, though practical skills are given more weightage in the job market these days, formal qualifications should not be denied as it helps make an individual’s future career more prosperous.

Sample Answer:

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am Rita, a senior executive at TCS and I am writing to inform you that I have recently stayed at your hotel and left my bag in the room I stayed in.

My family had recently been to Bangalore to attend a wedding ceremony held at your hotel (The Leela) on 10th March. We stayed in room no. 2100 for two days. After reaching back to my home in Delhi, I noticed that I missed my bag in your hotel room. The bag was probably kept near the bed. It is a red color, medium size bag. Since, it contains some precious jewelry and few dresses of mine, so I need to receive it on urgent basis.

I spoke to the hotel receptionist and she asked me to report the matter to you. I would really appreciate if you could courier it to my home address as soon as possible.

Looking forward to getting a positive response. (158 words)

Yours Faithfully

Rita

IELTS Speaking Tips ????

IELTS Speaking Tips

Use of the Third conditional for IELTS speaking

The students who appear for IELTS speaking tests are expected to use good grammar structure. In order to achieve higher band score, the candidates should avoid minor grammatical errors. Third conditional being one of it.

FORMAT: if + past perfect, …would + have + past participle

USE: when one has to talk about some event in past that did not take place. This is often used to express regret or assume the result of something that did not occur hence also known as ‘unreal conditions’.

 EXAMPLE-

  • If she had taken her medicines on time, she wouldn’t have felt sick. (But she did not take her medicines, so she fell sick).
  • He would have caught the train if he had left the house on time.

The sentences with the third conditions seems a bit negative than the first and second condition. It is a common error for candidates to put ‘if’ and ‘would’ together.

For example-

  • If you had left on time, you wouldn’t have missed the train.
  • If you had asked me, I would have helped you. ( for writing)
  • If you’d asked me, I’d have helped you (for speaking)
