Sample Answer

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the facilities provided by your sports center located at the MG Road. It has been two years since I and my husband joined this center. We both attend the aerobics classes in the morning and do swimming in the evening.

I want to bring into your notice that the changing rooms in the pool section are not being maintained properly. Firstly, the towels are soiled and even damp sometimes. Secondly, there is a foul smell in the rooms most of the time. It seems as if the area is not cleaned thoroughly and no room freshener is used. We talked with the facilitator before writing to you but the issue was ignored rather than being resolved. Such a response has disappointed us as it is a basic hygiene issue which should have been taken care of immediately after the first complaint.
I would like you to ensure that clean towels are supplied after every swimming session and rooms are cleaned regularly. If the problem of foul smell can also be tackled by installing ventilators, we would be grateful to you.

I look forward to receiving a prompt response.

Yours faithfully
Anju Rawat

General Writing Letter # Traditional Celebration

IELTS General Writing Letter Task 1. You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

There will be a traditional celebration in your country and you want to invite your friend from an English-speaking country. Write him/her a letter and
– invite your friend,
– explain what happens at the party
– describe the tradition and why it’s important in your country
– say why it is important for your friend to be there

Sample Answer:

Dear Anna,

I believe you are doing great. It’s a great pleasure to invite you for the Lohri celebration in my hometown Chandigarh next month on 13th January.

I remember you were eager to see this traditional festival when I shared the photographs of last year’s function with you. As a custom, this festival is celebrated with lots of gusto in Punjab and other North Indian regions on 13th of January every year. The occasion is associated with crop harvesting. It also marks the beginning of financial year for the Punjabi farmers.

The celebration becomes more joyful if there is a new bride or a newborn baby in the family. Since my brother got blessed with a baby boy two months back, the party is going to be really special for us.
Anna, you will love dancing with us on folk beats while putting groundnuts and popcorn into the bonfire. I’ll also get a classical dress designed for you in your favorite Royal Blue color.

Please book the air tickets right away and reach India at least two days prior to the occasion. I just can’t wait to see you!

With love
Harpreet

IELTS Speaking Part I Sample Questions # Science

Science is one of those most dreaded and then often the most loved subjects in school. There are people who go for it and then go entirely or just let it be. It is science that teaches children to be more logical and makes them understand the wonders of life. This time we are looking at some sample speaking questions asked in IELTS part I related to science.

Do you like science?

Answer 1: I do find science intriguing because there is so much one can comprehend about the present life from science, which makes life more vivid for the individual. For example, I know the reason why liquid flows and why my desk is so rigid. All thanks to science.

Answer 2: Science does interest me but I am more of an art student. Rather than comprehending on why things are the way they are, I accept them and try to correlate different existing things. For instance, the question on whether water flows or not does not gives me a kick but what does the flowing water make people feel surely does.

What science subject did you like the most in school? Why?

Answer 1: Chemistry has been my favourite subject because it taught me about our surroundings. Surely Biology was even interesting but the difficult terms it presented was not something that fascinated me. The greatest lesson anyone can ever learn from Chemistry is that mixing is essential but one must remember that it can be both constructive and destructive. In addition, some things can be taken back others not.

Answer 2: I loved Physics a lot because of the various problems it presented. There was always a way of doing things and then a simpler way of doing the same things. Finding the best way of doing certain things fascinated me and allured me to practice more. Even more, since the concepts of physics could be applied in my daily life, it did become my favourite subject.

What do you find most interesting about science?

Answer 1: Science in itself is pretty interesting because of the broad concepts that it brings into the picture. So, it is all about nature and its components: biology, physics, and chemistry do make our daily lives possible. I believe the fact that no matter one does not pursues it in their lives as a career, science surely helps in leading a better life.

Answer 2: The most tempting things about science is that it binds life. What I see around me, I can find the reasons for their existence in science. From the matters to space, science allows a person to understand themselves better through biology and then make life simpler with physics.

Is there anything that you do not like about science?

Science is a beautiful subject which if learned practically can teach people a lot. But I believe it is taught poorly in schools making kids lose interest in it. Science is about doing experiments and trying new things, the lack of proper lab tools and the competition of getting good grades often takes away the real teaching that science has to offer.

Is your work related to Science?

Being a blogger and a computer engineer science does not come to my use every day. Most of the times I am writing articles on things around or coding my way to make certain things happen. But Science does create curiosity in me and I do watch some shows on Discovery or read science fiction.

Flowers are the beautiful part of our nature that make our life lively and worth living. Although there are some people allergic to flowers, most of us love them. Each one has their own favorites and enjoys gifting and being gifted flowers. This time we are looking at the part I sample questions on flowers.

Do you like to have flowers in your home?

I love flowers but I am elated about them. There is no art or life that I find in the scent of the roses neither my mind goes to an abstract mode with flowers. I do love them to an extent that if someone offers me flowers I feel happy about it.

Where would you go to buy flowers?

Earlier I used to go to floral shops to get flowers or get them from street vendors but now with technology coming into picture, I usually get flowers from ferns and petals or some other online shops.

On what occasions would you give someone flowers?

There could be various occasions where we can give flowers. I prefer on marriages and death ceremonies. Giving flowers on birthdays or when someone is sick is not my idea. I will preferably go with some personal gifts on birthdays and fruits when someone is sick.

Where can you see flowers in your country?

There are 29 states in my country and one can find almost a kind of flower which is each state’s speciality. But most people in our country like to grow flowers in their house. So, probably everyone does have a garden attached to their home. However, with space issues becoming prominent in major cities, people now have small pots where they grow flowers. Other than this, one can find them in gardens and parks or in any other monumental place.

Are flowers important in your culture?

Flowers do play an important role in our culture. For example, lotus symbolises wealth and divinity, knowledge and enlightenment. It is central in many yantra patterns and form part of many designs of decorations in more secular contexts. There are flowers like marigold which are considered auspicious in our country and are used in marriages. For festivals like Onam, people make rangoli from the propitious flowers like marigold.

What flowers have special meaning in your country?

There is a rich cultural heritage associated with my country. Flowers like marigold, lotus, crown flower, china rose are the ones which are very auspicious in the country and are used in every propitious thing. China rose is used for the worship of Durga. Sita Ashoka also has significance in our culture. It is believed that Sita sat under the Ashok tree when she was abducted by Ravana.
