IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Animals

Animals are the part of our lives, whether we believe it or not. The food chain, the food webs and the ecosystem, they all make what we call our life. In this IELTS speaking section, we are looking at some of the questions related to animals asked in a recent IELTS exam.

Which animal do you find interesting?

There are many wild and pet animals to choose from but I find monkeys the most interesting. They are the hoppers, the go-getters, the friends. It is so easy to see them laughing with their friends or helping each other. Not only that, science predicts them to be closer to human species which makes them interesting to me.

What is your opinion about animals being kept in prison?

Keeping animals in captivity is one of the most horrendous of crimes humans do, in my opinion. We have become more greedy and selfish than ever before. For fulfilling our needs, we have taken away the habitats of animals forcing them into prisons. I have been to zoo few times and seen some of them depressed with their lifestyle.

Do you think government can do something about animals being kept in prison?

With the increasing human population and the human demands, freeing animals is not the most pragmatic thing to accept from our governments. But, I believe that animals should be kept in places closer to their habitats or similar to their habitat. Also, for animals on verge of extinction, special care must be taken.

How do you think government can protect animals from poachers, hunters, and people who kill animals for prey?

The government has to change their perspective from laws for people who kill towards how to protect. For instance, the security system must be tightened around the endangered species. Also, education can be used to impart the knowledge about different species. There can even be ad campaigns showing the different species and why they are important. Like, there are ads for smoking and cancer, so should be there for the safety of animals.

What is your opinion for using animals as beasts of burden?

I would choose the grey color. One cannot deny that we do need animals for carrying our burden sometimes, like donkeys for carrying good or horses for traveling or ox for pulling carts. But, the problem is when we overdo it. Making a donkey bare a load more than he can carry or not give enough food is something that must be refrained from. Also, with the advancement in technology, one can obviously look for the other alternatives.

Do you think that the relationship between animals and humans is changing or is likely to change in future?

Times are definitely evolving and things and relationships around us are changing, including the one between humans and animals. In the fast-paced life that we now live, no one has the time left to have a pet or take care of animals around! In earlier days, people ensure they had water and food on their rooftops for the animals and gave away food the street dogs. Although in towns still there is a connection between animals and humans, in cities it is slowing fading away.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I have recently found out about your ‘Summer Peak’ Adventure camp through a leaflet in the Local Newspaper.

My friends and I are curious to know more about the facilities provided along with a little elaboration on what the included specials such as ‘River Rafting’, ‘Mountain trekking’, ‘Wood exploration’ and ‘Natural Craft’ include. We also have some other basic inquiries on the campsite, for instance: how large the campsite is, if the meals provided are inclusive to the package and how far away this campsite is from the nearest airport.

Another question is regarding the cost of our stay. The deals mentioned were only for smaller groups, but we are be a group of 7 people staying for a week and we are guessing we would require two ‘family tents’. Since we are students, could you also include the student discount offer mentioned? We will come in our summer holidays, preferably during the first week of June.

My friends and I look forward to hearing from you as well as coming to stay at your summer camp.
Yours sincerely,
Amit N.

IELTS ESSAY : Causes and Solution To Environmental Damage

Writing task 2: IELTS ESSAY: Causes and Solution To Environmental Damage

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:
An increase in the production of consumer goods is damaging the environment. What are the causes behind this environmental damage and how this problem can be solved?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer:

In today’s materialistic world, the demand and production of consumer goods are rising at an unprecedented rate. This trend is exacerbating an enormous pressure on the environment. This essay will look at the reasons behind this issue and propose some solutions.

One of the main causes comes in the form of the infamous material plastic. It has become so widespread that a world without it is quite unimaginable, toothbrushes to medical machinery are all made up of plastic. From the making of it (made from refined crude oil) to the eventual largely improper disposal, it is one major bio hazard all the way through.

Another cause and effect factor would be e-waste. Despite electronics being fairly new to this world, they have already caused more than their fair share of environmental damage. While the fad for newer technologies is to blame for speeding up the damage, most of the blame lies on the improper disposal of these compound gadgets. Electronic garbage from various devices contain dangerous chemicals such as lead, cadmium, beryllium, mercury, and brominated flame retardants. When they are exposed to nature in land dumps, they can make the environment a more toxic place.

It is an unspoken agreement that the larger demand causes for larger exploitation. This would be fine if it weren’t for the fact that most of the assorted wastes have their own disposal methods. Sadly, these processes are largely unheeded by waste disposal authorities who instead choose to incinerate unsorted scraps, causing an even bigger environmental issue.

This is where the lack of stern policies come into play making what could be a great solution or regulation policy into a loophole allowing further abuse of the natural world. Enforcement of these pre-existing policies is a must, especially on large scale corporations. While the common people can do their bit by using the 3 R’s, we will make much faster progress if the authorities are questioned and regulated before the population.
