SAMPLE ANSWER-

Every year, thousands of people leave their countryside houses to settle in urban centers either within the country or across borders. Some people take this step with the intention of improving their lifestyle whereas, others seek migration when they suffer from a natural or man-made disaster. There are various reasons for the occurrence of rural-urban migration and the problems associated with it.

Most of the people who live in pastoral areas are self-employed in agriculture and farming. With changing climatic conditions, agricultural productivity and farmer’s financial security are greatly affected. The city life not only provides countryside people with better job opportunities but also with superior educational facilities thereby compelling people migrate towards conurbation.

Though rural-urban migration can prove to be advantageous from an individual’s perspective, there are some drawbacks that society has to deal with. With an increased rate of migration taking place, there are negative effects on the agricultural industry of a country because the rural development does not materialize. Having a large population in the cities leads to pressure on the natural resources and the services (health and education) of urban areas. Most importantly, due to the high illiteracy rate in rural areas, people are not suitable for better quality jobs and they end up living in slum areas.

To sum up, rural-urban migration is increasing at an alarming rate. I think the government should take action like providing better employment and services in rural areas so that the countrymen do not feel the need to continuously drift to urban centers.

Sample Answer:

The bar graph compares the amount of time men and women expended every day in different leisure and sports activities in America in 2014.
One striking feature of the chart is that watching TV was the favorite free time activity for both the genders. On average, males spent 3 hours daily in front of their TV sets while women spent 2.6 hours. Socializing and interacting with family and friends was the next most preferred form of recreation. Both men and women spent 0.7 hours per day on this activity.
Leisure activities, sports, exercise and using electronic devices like computers were more popular among males. On the other hand, the opposite was true for reading as females expended 0.4 hours daily on this activity whereas men spent merely 0.3 hours. Interestingly, thinking or relaxing were equally popular among both sexes. This form of entertainment accounted for 0.3 hours daily for both men and women.
Overall, there were minor differences in the amounts of times males and females spent in different leisure and sport activities but watching TV was the activity which occupied the most time. (184 Words.)

IELTS Essay # Prison sentences should not be used to deal with criminals

IELTS Writing Task # Essay

Some people think that prison sentences should not be used to deal with criminals. Education and skills training should be used instead. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

 SAMPLE ANSWER-

The use of imprisonment is a common form of punishment followed by the law. But a majority of people hold the opinion that education and training skills can be a major factor in crime reduction. I partially agree that prison sentence is not the only solution to criminal activities as educating the prisoners can help them too.

Some people think that imprisonment of the criminals is mandatory for reformation of the person and the society as a whole. As recidivists is a common reason because of which people are put behind the bars, there is a fear among the culprits that unlawful conduct has serious consequences. However, without the possibility of punishment many individuals would break the law. Without serious punishments like imprisonment, people would seek vengeance against each other which would result into endless conflicts.

Education helps an individual differentiate between the right and wrong. The idea that prison should offer education to inmates is gaining popularity. In a recent survey conducted, it has been proven that majority of the criminals belonged to a lower social group and were illiterate. If the government start educating or giving skillful training to them, it may improve their employment prospects which would result into crime reduction.

To sum up, the traditional punishment of imprisonment should not be considered the only way to deal with criminals. It is important to provide education and other skills so that they can become transformed individuals. Therefore, instead of sitting idle in jail and thinking about vengeance, they will be preoccupied with more productive activities.

Essay # Some people think that e-books are the death of paper books.

IELTS Writing Task # Essay

Some people think that e-books are the death of paper books while others think that paper books will never disappear.

Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

SAMPLE ANSWER-

In the era of cyberspace, e-books are gaining popularity. Though some people anticipate that with the evolution of e-books, traditional paper books have lost their popularity. While others opine that digital books cannot replace reading printed books. This essay will discuss the views.

With the progress in science, e-books are a boon for budding writers and readers. Factors like technological convenience and environment can be kept into consideration. As everything is available with one click online, readers can have access to a vast variety of books in an online library. Moreover, with deforestation at its peak, cutting down more trees for publishing books can be harmful to the environment. Therefore, e-books are pocket-friendly, eco-friendly and convenient to use.

At the same time, some oppose that e-books do not deliver the same physicality and tangibility as a real book. In addition, the feeling of owning a book is quite different from surfing the online library. The concentration level of the reader and better understanding of the characters is part f reading a printed book. There are millions of books available in the market and some of the ancient manuscripts cannot be translated into digital forms. Therefore, though e-books are vivid and colorful, they cannot provide the same impact as physical books to the bookworms.

To conclude, I believe that both traditional books and digital books have their own readers. Since the present generation is more technology savvy, youngsters tend to use digital books. Even though e-books have a flourishing future, physical paper books will never disappear completely.
