• who was involved in the story
• where you read or heard about this story
• And explain why this news story was interesting to you.

Sample Answer One:

I read the newspaper regularly. Today, I’m going to talk about a latest news that was exciting for many people.
The story was about India’s biggest test victory outside Asia. The Indian cricket team thrashed West Indies by an innings and 92 runs in the first test match. This was a challenging match as the opponents are known for their record breaking runs in test cricket.
I think this win was particularly crucial for the Indian team to prove their potential as the team was playing with a new coach. Apart from that, there were many young players who were participating in their first international test match. The result of this match was an achievement for the whole team and the nation.
Since cricket is a very popular sport in my hometown, almost everyone in my neighborhood was talking about this match. I found it fascinating because cricket is my favorite sport and I am the captain of my school team. We have played many state and national level matches. In the future, I want to be a part of the Indian cricket team so that I can bring laurels to my country. This thumping victory was very motivating and encouraging to me because I am a bowler and bowlers can be the game changers in this unpredictable game.

Sample Answer Two: (Writer: Akshay Tomar)

The other day I was browsing through the internet, when I read an article on some mind-blowing facts about Indian railways.
The article was about the maiden journey of Indian railway that was on April/16/1853 between Mumbai n Thane and its glorious history. Though, one theory suggests as per the archives of IIT Roorkee’s report on the Ganga Canal (1860) first train ran between Roorkee and Piran Kaliyar on Dec/22/1851.
The article was extensively covering about the history of India railways, as well some amazing facts were shared…… Indian railway has world’s fourth longest railway network, daily more than 23 million people travel with Indian rails. A train by the name “Fairy Queen” was certified by Guinness World Record as the world’s oldest steam locomotive in regular operations, in the year 1998. Under construction Chenab Railway Bridge, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is expected to be one of the highest railway bridge when completed. As well four of the Indian railway sites have been declared “world heritage site” by UNESCO, they are Darjeeling year 1999, Mumbai CST Building 2004, Neelgiri Mountain Railways 2005, Kalka Shimla Railway 2008.
Throughout the years that I have spent in my country, I never realized that we have such a glorious past in the terms of Indian railway and this article certainly makes me proud of my country and its accomplishments.(228 Words)

IELTS Speaking 2021 Cue Card: A person who knows a lot about something

IELTS Speaking 2021 Cue Card: A person who knows a lot about something

Describe someone who knows a lot about something

You should say:

  • Who he/she is
  • Where he/she lives
  • What he/she does
  • Explain why you think he knows a lot.
Sample Answer:

I’ve met many knowledgeable people in my life. Today, I’m going to talk about a person who knows a lot about automobiles.

His name is Gagan Agarwal. Originally, he is from a small town in Panjab but his family moved to Delhi 5 years ago. So, now, he lives in Delhi with his parents.

Gagan works as an executive car designer in Suzuki, a renowned automobile company. He is appointed in the head office in Delhi. He completed his Bachelor’s of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delhi in 2015. Thereafter, he was selected by Suzuki.

I feel that Gagan is a towering intellectual. Despite being a fresh graduate, he was offered a place in a world-class organization. Many senior people struggle for years to join such companies. He made it in the first year of his career. That’s is definitely a remarkable achievement. Unquestionably, the credit for this goes to his in-depth knowledge of various disciplines of mechanical engineering and his creativity.

Another reason why I think he is brilliant is that he is an active learner. Normally, when anyone starts working, they don’t pay attention to improving their knowledge or skills. But, this is not the case with Gagan. He is always willing to expand his knowledge and learn new skills. He often reads magazines and attends seminars to keep him up to date with the latest technology. All these things make him different from others. I can’t stop admiring him. He is a role model for me.

quiet place IELTS Cue Card

SAMPLE ANSWER

I am an extrovert as an individual and usually prefer loud places, with parties or gatherings going on. However, there are certain times when I do like being in quiet. Times when things go out of hand and I am unable to make a correct decision. Or situations where I feel emotionally drained. For these moments, I prefer going on a long walk during the evenings towards the Cantonment area. It is around 100 mts from my place and post that there are trees on both the sides of the road and less of vehicles going up and down from the area in the evenings.

Also, there are guards at almost every 100 mt distance, making it a safe place. In the area, there is a park, where people usually go for jogging and after a long walk I like sitting there. Most of the times I gaze stars from there and help my mind to be out of every thought it has and meditate.

I remember the last time I went there was when I had a huge fight with my best friend. He started questioning my being and it felt bad. There were acquisition and all of a sudden I started questioning all relationships. Things were going bizarre and I went for a long walk in the evening.

IELTS Cue Card: Talk with a stranger

Describe a situation when you had a talk with a stranger.

You should say:

  • who the person was
  • where you met him/her
  • what the conversation was about
  • and explain why you found the conversation exciting.
Sample Answer:

I enjoy meeting new people. Today I’m going to talk about a time when I met a stranger and had an interesting conversation with him.
On weekends I go to Rishikesh for learning yoga.  I normally travel by bus as the buses are quite regular and comfortable. But, on last Sunday, bus drivers were on a one day strike. So, I had to drive in the morning. This time there were many foreigners in the yoga centre. All of us did yoga for about 2 hours. Thereafter, we went to the dining hall for breakfast. Naturally, I started interacting with the person sitting next to me. He was from Scotland and had come to India to complete a 120-hour yoga course. His name was Thomson.
Somehow, the focus of our conversation went to festivals and celebrations in our respective countries. He shared some interesting information about the New Year’s Eve Celebrations in Scotland. It’s called Hogmanay. The origins of this word are unclear but it’s the biggest Scottish celebration.

Many traditions like cleaning the house and singing etc. are observed on this auspicious day. The most important of them is first-footing, where families wait for the first person to visit their homes at midnight. Surprisingly, the first foot must be a man or a boy with dark hair, not a woman. It’s believed that the first foot brings fortune to the family for the New Year.  If you are the first foot, you should carry three things: food, coal and something to drink.

I found this conversation very exciting because I didn’t know anything about Hogmanay. The way we celebrate the New Year is very different from how it is celebrated in Scotland. This conversation gave me a glimpse of the Scottish culture. Altogether, the novelty of this information and his friendliness made it a memorable interaction.
