IELTS Cue Card # Interesting Conversation

Describe an interesting conversation you had with someone you did not know.
You should say:

  • who the person was
  • where the conversation took place
  • what you talked about

and explain why you found the conversation interesting.

Sample Answer-One

There are lot of conversations that we have, sometimes with our friends, the other times with our family members, but I clearly remember a conversation with a senior consultant at NRI consulting dehradun about my future Job. It was more of his love to make sure that I am able to do things in my life and my concern of being limited in some certain boundaries.

Consultant was trying to make me understand the importance of job and a good life. We were talking of the great people in our family and I remember out of no where, words started coming into my mouth. I was finally talking and talking about some serious things in life. I told him that for me it is about loving my work and doing it more often. It is about getting up every morning to do more of work and live life as it comes.

And this is not going to happen if I look for job security. For some reasons it was not coming out of my head and every word that I said was from my heart.

The reason the conversation is so important for me because when I look back at it after Two years of it happening, I realize that I never knew that whatever I am telling will be true and I will definitely live a life that is true to my heart and achieve things no one ever thought of.

It was this conversation that made me realize that to be successful in life it is very important to be confident, confident even in the darkest of hours.
Interesting Conversation

Sample Answer-Two

Few months back, while I was in the training center, I was part of a SOFTEN initiative which was about teaching kids and interacting with them, most of those who had a rough past. While I was a volunteer there, I met a guy, he was our senior and we both were part of a team. So, we had these five people, most of them were child labors and me and Debashis, the guy, we were the ones leading the team.

So, the entire day we were telling the children about the games and the quizzes, teaching them things here and there and when the workshop got ended, me and Debashis went for a coffee near our campus. Now, this was the first time I had ever gone for a coffee with someone and had a real good time.

We talked about poor people, the down trodden lives of them and how they survive and are able to live their lives. We did shared the same opinion that assuming just because a person is not wearing good clothes, does not mean he or she is not to be respected. From the lives of poor we went on to talking about the work that we do for the organization. He was a part of the project of Boeing and had learnt so much more about aircrafts and he was fascinated talking about it and I was amazed by hearing his passion. The same way I did talked about lot of things here and there.

The reason I loved the conversation because it was more of listening and understanding. So, neither of us was trying to tell the other person what they had to share but we were more concerned about listening to the other person and responding to it. Also, it was from that conversation that I realized I could talk and interact with people in a good way. This confidence has helped me striking lot more conversations.

Tips

There are so many  people that we meet in our lives but then there are some with whom we end up having great conversations. These are the people who in some way plant a seed for a new future or a new path. The conversation could be about anything, right from sports or models or food or may be passion. With internet coming in the world, it has changed the way the world operates. From everything being on word of mouth to the paper, we now are living in a world where everything is on internet. The coming of social websites has brought the one emotion we all care about the most, love, also on internet. With so many dating sites available, let us today have a look at some of the questions related to online dating.

Can two people fall in love over the internet without meeting each other first?

I think it is perfectly possible for two people to fall in love on internet, but only if they show their true self over there. The real problem is when people are behind the monitor screen they tend to hide different facets about their lives, which are clearly visible when you interact with each other personally. So, if not entirely love, internet can surely help people in getting to know some facts about each other, but for the most part, I believe that to be able to fall in love, you need to actually spend time with the other person physically.

How acceptable is online dating in your country?

Online dating is slowly becoming common in our country, with the major cities already having lots of youngsters into online dating. There are so many people signing up for dating sites, with hope of finding love online. In some cases, there have been positive results, while in others they have either ended up being friends or strangers to the worst.

What are some of the good and bad things about online dating?

I think the best part about online dating is that you can get to know the person initially, before having to meet them. So, you have that initial conversation with the other person, get to know and then figure out if it can be moved ahead. It makes initial talks very flexible.  However, if a person completely depends on the dating sites to find love and make a relationship, I think the problem begins. Because, no matter how advance the technology becomes, nothing can change the feeling one gets when someone hugs you, holds your hands, when eyes meet, when you shy away. These things make people fall in love.

Do you know anyone who has met their husband or wife online?

There was a friend of mine, who dated this girl online for around one year before they finally met. Because, my friend was in USA that time and the girl was in India, but they met online, became friends and when he finally came to India they met and fell in love. Now, they both are happily married.

What are some popular online dating sites in your country?

Online dating is slowly finding its space in Indian market with some of the popular sites like, Tinder, okCupid, iloveromance, Facebook.

When getting to know someone is it better to talk with them or text them?

I think it is always preferred that you go out and talk with them. Because, it is not just the literal thing that they are saying, but the context and the emotions they attach with it, makes what they say matter. You cannot see someone cry while they are texting. However, if one is not able to meet the other person, I think texting shouldn’t be stopped, because silence often kills relationships.

How do you think apps like Tinder have changed online dating?

I think they have made dating much more easier, yet some times irritating. Because, now you just randomly pick a person without knowing the other person very well and there is more risk of it turning to a bizarre. But, for the most part I think it has made things more easier.

Do you think that all the tech solutions to dating have made dating easier or more complicated?

I believe they make love much more complicated than ever. Because, now you can just talk to the other person 24/7 which leaves the pain that one used to feel to meet the other person. To talk with the other person. These days, people are coming into relationships faster than ever, and then ending them in some simple text messages. People end up faking so many times and it becomes hard to peel of that face and get to know the real person.

No matter how much we hated them when we were in school, classrooms are something that we love and fondly remember through our lives. It was the place where we met new people for the first time, found love, fought with others, made fun, and learnt so much new. With classrooms playing such an important role in our lives, let us today have a look at some of the questions related to classrooms.

What do you like about your classroom?

Apart from the fact, that I sit close to my friends, the best part about my classroom is that it has lot of windows and is very near to our school ground. So, whenever we have our recess or games period we get to spend some extra time outside because any ways we can come earlier to our class.

Do you think the teacher should assign seats to students?

I think sometimes it is good for a teacher to assign seats to students. In this way, apart from the friends that we have, we are able to make many more friends. Also, there is lot more unity when teacher assigns us seat and there is so much that we get to learn from a new person.

What kind of classroom setting is the best for you?

The best setting would be of rotation, where the seats get rotated every day. So, in that sense we are able to sit with every person of our row. Also, after some time if there is an interchange of rows, it could be even better. Because, in that way we are able to make so much more friends and get to know so many more people.

What are five things you like about your classroom?

There are several things that I love about my classroom. Some of them would be, my class teacher, my friends, the convertible desk, the window next to my seat and the fact that we are getting to know about different people everyday.

What are the things you don’t like about your classroom?

There are only few things that I don’t very much like in my class. One of them is our present monitor. He is kind of biased so, often he does not complain about his or her friends and readily complains about others. Also, there is a bully in our class, who tries to irritate everyone in the class.

CLASSROOMS

What equipment for teaching is in your classroom?

We are taught using a black board and a chalk by our teacher. However, recently smart classes have also been made in our school and they are so much more fun. Learning through them is so exciting because we are able to see in a video what is exactly happening and our teacher is also good. So, she tells us all the answers of our questions and even asks us to question more.

Do you like classroom with fixed desks or movable desks? Why?

I like class rooms with fixed desks. Having fixed desks is so much more comfortable then moving because in fixed there is no movement, so even if someone by mistakes hit it, it won’t go far. But with moving desk, there is lot of chaos created by simple movements.

How much time a day do you spend in a classroom?

I spend almost 8 hours in my classroom. First we have our school from 8 to 3 and then we have got our extra classes that we take in our class room. It is always fun to be in the classroom because me and my friends are almost always having fun.

How much time a day do you spend in a classroom looking out the window?

Not much. The only times that I look out of the window is when there is nothing to do in class. Or times when I come early to the class in the morning. It is during morning that birds chirp near the trees of that window. It is amazing to see them, the mother feeding the children.
