An individual has to attend several events and occasions in his/her life. I too had enjoyed many functions related to different themes, but I am going to talk about a specific one which I most recently experienced. Pacing back to the month of March, the society in which I live organized an event to celebrate the festival of colors, which in India is popularly known as “Holi”. This festival is celebrated each year with zeal and enthusiasm by the followers of Hindu religion. While celebrating this festival, people plat with colors and have a varied selection of dishes to choose from. All the members of our locality contributed a fixed amount to the chosen president for this function. Ever since this function was decided to be celebrated, everyone had been keenly looking forward for it to arrive. On the day of the event, all of the members were full of joy and happiness. On a long table, different colors were placed on plates for the people to use and play with. Everyone there was exchanging greetings and sweets with each other. One could feel the togetherness present in the air that day. Big speakers blew in full volume with amazing Bollywood songs to set the mood of fun. Colors flew in the air as everyone was splashing on them on each other. Some were even using colored water through water cannons. There was harmony among all of us. To sum up, I’d say that it was one of the events where I felt the most present in the moment. It gave me a new beginning as I forgot all the hatred and sorrow that I had faced before this celebration.

Q1. How do people celebrate public events?

In my opinion, it mostly depends on the type of the function. But in almost all events, a lot of varied food items are served, friends gather together to have chit-chat with each other and sometimes even enjoy deinks of their likings. These events are full of excitement and cheerfulness.

Q2. Do you think it is important to celebrate events?

Well, I partially agree with this statement as even though I do believe that life’s a short path and every little achievement deserves its own celebration, however, not everybody on this planet is fortunate enough to conduct a grand celebration due to limited financial resources.

The place is a park named as Ramsay’s, and is just a minute’s distance away from my house. The park is quite big and includes amenities for all sorts of age groups.

I first went their with my father when I was ten years old, as the city was new for me. Ever since then, it became more of a daily ritual to go there and sometimes I used to go there alone as well, just so as to enjoy with friends which I made there itself. Every evening at 5.00, I used to go there and play myriad of games with my friends who were mostly residing in the colony. I used to play volleyball, hide and seek and many other sports. Since the park was huge, old people used to stroll around the park, meanwhile young boys play football and basketball.

To be very honest, I have very fond memories attached to my childhood days, and if I ever get a chance to relive those days, I would certainly do that without giving it a second thought. The park is still there and is quite popular among people as everyone goes there to enjoy and play sports.

Thus, this is a popular place for sports.

CUE CARD – Describe an advertisement you do not like.

    • What it is about?
    • Where you saw it/how you came to know about it?
    • Why you did not like it?
Sample Answer

There are a lot of advertisements which I watch in my daily life. But today I would like to talk about an advertisement which I do not like. It is a face cream, which somehow manages to promote the unreal beauty standards in the society. I saw it for the very first time when I was watching a movie on television and had a short break of five minutes. The cream was named fair and lovely, which sounded really messed up to me, as it convinced many young girls to adopt irrelevant beauty standards in order to seek validation and feel accepted by the society.
I personally did not like it because it was really disturbing for me to watch young girls purchasing it, just so that they can look fairer, depriving them of their natural skin color and adding on to the unrealistic beauty standards. This advertisement somehow promotes the idea of perfect beauty, which ofcourse is a myth.

Therefore, this is an advertisement I do not like and support.

I was very much stressed, as I have never done any such research before. So, I seek help from my seniors who were then in the final year of the college. One of my seniors named Shreya then introduced me to the website where I was actually able to find a lot about the different words, their meanings , followed by synonyms and antonyms.

The website was quite helpful in my research, as it helped me with the names and pronounciation of certain words around which my research revolved. It was because of that, I was actually able to complete my thesis before time, and not only that, I also recieved high grade in my research, for which I was presented with  a fellowship of 5000 Rupees. Ever since then, I have been using that website for my study related purposes, like assignments and projects.

Therefore, this was  a website which helped me to do something important.

Q1. Will the internet replace teacher one day?

I do not think so, because teachers are imperative to a child’s good academics. Physical interaction between a teacher and a student is must. In fact sometimes when students have any doubts, teacher tries to come up with creative ways of solving them, which is not the case with the computers.

Q2. Can internet help the children with studies?

Definitely, Infact I strongly feel that most of the studies today are possible because of internet itself. Even during pandemic, when everything came to a halt, the major part of  the syllabus was covered through zoom classes and google meet, followed by online exams as well.
