Sample Answer:

India has a wide variety of cultures and traditions. There are unique traditions in India but today I would like to highlight ‘Kumbh Mela’. The Kumbh is conducted every twelve years, and people from different parts of the country attend it. It is unique in itself because it is considered as world’s largest congregation of pilgrims.
This festival attracts millions of people, the majority of which mainly consists of different Hindu sects like saints, hermits, tantriks religious organisations, and Hindu men and women from all walks of life. One of the most popular and unique crowd here is the Nagas, they are the men who refrain from wearing any clothes. Apart from that politicians and government authorities also attend it.
Miscellaneous activities take place here, People come here to perform sacred rituals and take holy bath in the Ganges in order to achieve salvation. There are many Yagyashalas where havans are performed regularly. Saints conduct Kathas or storytelling from several Indian mythologies like Ramayana, Mahabharata or Bhagwat Puran. Bhandara which is the free food service is also held for the people.
I feel Kumbh is one of the most special tradition of India which is popular all over the country. People look forward to Kumbh as one of the biggest events. The fact that it is one of the world’s largest peaceful gathering makes it noteworthy and I would like to be a part of it at least once in my lifetime.

IELTS Cue Card -Describe a conversation topic you were not interested in

IELTS Cue Card – Describe a conversation topic you were not
interested in

Describe a conversation topic you were not
interested in
Speak about:

  • Who you talked with
  • When you had the conversation
  • What the topic was
  • And explain why you were not interested
Sample Answer

Last month I had gone to my maternal uncle’s wedding. I met a lot of relatives and cousins there after a long time and had fun with them, but I clearly remember when I met two of my aunts there with whom I had a conversation that I was not interested in. My aunts were talking about what is the right age for girls to get married and trying to convince me and my cousin to get married soon. They were trying to give us all sorts of advice and also suggested few boys that would be suitable for us to marry. Our marriage was the centre of their discussion. They told us that girls should get married to successful men right after their graduation or even before if they get a perfect match. These aunts even told us that if we cross 25 years of age, there would be a question about our character and we would not find a perfect mate for ourselves. According to them we can be happy only after marriage.
I was definitely not interested in this conversation because the trend is changing now. In today’s world marriage is not the only milestone in an individual’s life, marriages can be delayed. Career is more prominent to survive in this world irrespective of genders. Even women have right to be educated and successful before they tie a nuptial knot. I was in fact disheartened by their concept about marriage even at this point of time when people have started scrutinising this old norm of getting married early. I believe there is no right age to get married until the person is physically and mentally ready to take the responsibilities hence I felt this conversation was monotonous.

Follow Up Questions:

Q. How do you know if others are not interested in the conversation?

Answer: When people are not interested in a conversation, it reflects on their facial expressions and body language. They seem to be bored and sleepy, sometimes they can be yawning. If they are not interested then they would not respond much and conversation would be less interactive and more of one sided.

Q. Do you think it is important to have a good sense of humour?

Answer: Yes, a good sense of humour is essential as it makes the conversation more interesting, it forms a good image and the person seems amiable. A sense of humour always helps in building good relationships with people irrespective of their variance.

IETLS Essay # socialize online rather than face to face

IETLS Essay # socialize online rather than face to face

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write at least 250 words.

Nowadays, more people are choosing to socialize online rather than face to face. Is this a positive or negative development?

Sample Answer:

Nowadays the trend of socialising online is increasing day by day. People do not like to meet others in person and prefer meeting online. I strongly believe that this is a negative development.

There are different problems that can arise from people socialising online. Firstly, it can lead to depression. In the name of communication, technology is creating a gap between humans. Meeting online lacks intimacy while meeting someone in person makes the relationship stronger and long-lasting. Physical proximity relieves stress as whenever one is feeling emotionally down, a warm hug can make them feel better which is not possible online. It is human tendency to have face to face interaction with others, which makes them feel better and cures depression.

The second negative is that it is risky in terms of security. People make fake identities on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and trap innocent people. This type of cybercrime is most popular in developing countries, where such criminals are mostly involved in human trafficking. Cyber bullying is also a major issue, as the person on the other side of the screen can misuse one’s chats and bully them. Apart from that hacking personal information also puts an individual’s security into danger.

Finally, there are some health-related drawbacks due to online socialisation. Spending too much time on mobile phones and computers for socialising can lead to an unhealthy lifestyle which causes obesity. Increased screen time is the also the reason behind poor eyesight specially among teenagers. Apart from that it also affects brain capacity to focus and learn new things.

In conclusion, I would like to stick to my point of view that online conversations have changed the idea of socialising in a negative manner. (291 words)

I have come across so many people in my life. Some of the people I know are truly intelligent and they have impressive personalities. Today I am going to talk about an intelligent person who is my history teacher. Her name is Arpita Shah, she is a brilliant teacher with an exceptional personality. If I talk about her physical appearance, she is petite and vivacious. She has short hair and usually wore saree to work.
She is a History teacher who has immense knowledge about her subject. She completed her Majors in History from Boston University. She had received Fischler Charles Fellowship to pursue this course and I’m proud to say that she was one of the only two Indians to secure this scholarship. She got good job opportunities abroad but she opted to teach the students of her own country and promote quality education.
Apart from her academic achievements, she is also a creative person. She is a part of a Drama Club in our city where plays are conducted in different languages of our country, this aims at conserving the traditions of India.
I think she is smart because she is a solution-oriented person. She has solutions to all the problems and she is always ready to help people and give them advice in different walks of life. In addition to her tacit knowledge, she also has a good sense of humour. Evidently, she is the smartest person I have ever met. I feel grateful that she is my mentor and I would like to stay in touch with her throughout my life.
