IELTS Speaking # Technology

We are living in an era that is surrounded by technology. From the computers that we use for work, to the phones that we use to interact and now the machines we use to stay fit, technology is everywhere and we are using it like never before. Although there are certain advantages associated with it, people often believe that technology has done more harm that it has done good. Let us today have a look at some of the questions related to technology that might be asked in the Section III of IELTS.

How can technology make our lives easier?

Technology is the application of scientific principles for the practical purposes. For example, we are using watches to get time, mobile phones to stay connected, Internet to grab knowledge etc and thus our life is made easier than before. Living without these amenities might have not affected our lives as in we would still have been living, but certainly we should have stayed in the primitive age. Technology has changed the way we study, work or even spend money. Gone are the days when we were limited to the physical resources we had, now there is so much more that we can get irrespective of whether it is around us or not. Technology has helped us in getting a better life standard with much more efficient tools and devices to help us in every possible way.

What are some great inventions you know about?

There are some great inventions that have been done in the human history so far. From fire, to tools, agriculture, electricity, internet, software, computers, engines, we surely have come a far way from where we began. But, I think the most important invention till date has to be the invention of fire. I think it was after it that humans realized that there are things that they can find out and make his life easier. So, they started inventing things like wheels which are the fundamental inventions for any of the communication system. The recent one, which has radically changed the world, has to be definately the invention of computers and internet. It is because of them that we are able to stay connected with so many people and learn so much more.

Why should we restrict the use of mobile phone in public places?

Mobile phone, undoubtedly, is an important invention in the history of man kind but it surely has some detrimental impacts. Using mobile phones in public may appear indecent or it might cause irritation to others. Like, if there are three people sitting quietly in a park and then there is this guy who is talking loudly on phone, it takes away the peace of the entire atmosphere. Or if you are in a temple, the phone rings and imagine that happening for lot of people. The sound causes disturbance. Moreover, since public spaces are very crowded, there are more chances of accidents accidents happening.

Why mobile phones are gaining its popularity?
Mobile phones are gaining popularity  because they are easy to use and carry. You have a computer and camera in a device equivalent to your palm. Moreover, they are more affordable for the public and come without any legal complexities.Even more, it is more convenient than other means of communication when it comes to contacting the other person. I believe since a person gets everything, from internet, to camera, to interaction, mobile phones are gaining popularity and they definitely go a long way.

Can you do without your mobile phone?

Yes, I can go few days without my mobile phone because no matter how much important it is, I am not very much addicted to it and I believe that there are things that can be surely put on hold. Because, while enjoying the present moment, one hardly needs to be worried about the future or the past. Even more, when I am working I prefer to put my entire focus on work.

In the present era that we are living, I think it is almost impossible for me to do without a mobile phone even for a single day. I need it not only for communicating but also for passing time by playing games of using internet application and there is so much more to do.

IELTS Speaking # Movie Industry

We all watch movies, some love the regional movies, some prefer the national big movies while there are others who love watching Hollywood. There is so much that one can learn from movies, so much  fun one can have while watching them, so much is there to relate with. Let us today, have a look at some of the questions related to movies.

Do you like Hollywood movies? Why or why not?

I do like Hollywood movies, especially romantic. I think romantic Hollywood films are great and I love some of them. Like, no strings attached, lot like love, notebook. These have been my favorite Hollywood movies. Besides, there are some other movies like The Jungle Book and Jumanji which are my favorite.

What kind of information about the United States have you learned by watching Hollywood movies?

By watching Hollywood movies, one can figure out that people out there are very casual when it comes to relationships and don’t tend to take it as a baggage. They do fall in love but then if it does not works out, don’t try to drag it for the society’s sake. Even more, it seems that there is lot of technology or science advancement that goes on in United States.

Do you think that movies from different countries can teach us about other cultures?

Every movie is the reflection of its own society. So, I think yes, movies from different countries do show their culture. Because, after all the characters and story is woven across the country and the characters face the kind of daily problems the country people face.

What kinds of movies are popular in your country?

For most part, romantic movies are popular in my country, the ones in which the hero is the winner every time. But, with changing times, movies which depict the real life stories are also becoming very popular in my country. With movies like, Mary Kom, Chak De India, Azhar, people are now getting to know about different successful people in our country.

What do the popular movies in your country show about your culture?

The most popular movies of our country try to depict the kind of relation that we all have with each other. Like, the one that a son might have with his mother and the problems he has to face when he decides to go against the people he loves the most. They also show the problems the poor faces in our country.

Do you think it is right for Hollywood movies to be the movies that are seen most around the world?

I think there is nothing right or wrong in it. Because in the end, a person is going to watch only those movies which he or she likes and if Hollywood movies are so good then they should be watched. Instead of stopping people from watching Hollywood movies, it would be always better if the regional or the local movies are made of great stature.

Did you see “Harry Potter”?

Yes, I have seen Harry Potter and loved it from my heart. I think it is one of those movies which in many ways defined my childhood. We used to wait for the movie to come and then see it again and again, till we memorize the dialog.

Sometimes film studios in Hollywood complain that their movies are being illegally copied and sold for lower prices in different parts of the world.Do you agree with them that this is a bad thing?

Obviously yes. When a person makes a movie, it is not just about spending money. It is more of a art. So, if you to find out the main idea around which the entire movie is going revolve and then there are the dialogs and the location and so much more. If some one just comes from no where and takes away the idea, it could be frustrating for anyone. If I had been in their position, I think I would have definitely fought against it.

Is the movie industry in your country strong? Why or why not?

For the most part it is. There are lot of people who love watching our country’s movies. However, there is even a small section, which prefers Hollywood movies. But, still there is a very strong fan base for our country’s movies in and out the country. I think the main reason could be because, there are great movies being made. Not only is the story amazing but the actors are performing outstanding.

Does the film industry in your country make good movies? Give some examples.

There have been some great movies from my country. My favorite are PK, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bhag Milkha Bhag, Manjhi, Mary Kom, My Name Is Khan, Airlift. These were some movies that just struck the chord with people and everyone could just relate with them so well.

Do you think that the movies from your country can be popular in other parts of the world if they have subtitles or are dubbed in different languages? Why or why not?

I think definitely yes. The movies made in my country have strong messages and they are not just romantic. So, like, there is this movie, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which teaches  you that life is now, at the present moment and no matter what we say, this is the moment that we are here to live and it is not coming back and we should live it to the fullest. And then there is this movie, PK, which tries to bring down to people that there is no prayer bigger than humanity. With messages like these given out, I think our movies will definitely be very popular world wide.
