Today, high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of society in which they are sold. To what extent do you agree or disagree. Write at least 250 and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Advertising has been defined as the most powerful, persuasive and canny tool that helps in control over the users. It has evolved over the course of years and there is no denying it is more influential than ever. It is argued that the real needs of the society are being diverted by advertisements as people are purchasing popular products rather than buying according to their needs. I wholeheartedly agree with this statement and in the following paragraphs, I will give my reasons.
Firstly, Multi National companies run special campaigns and get influential stars to promote their products. The star power attracts potential buyers towards their merchandise which alienates the needs of the customers. Coca cola is the world’s leading soft drink maker and has roped in various well known people to promote their sugar laden beverages. Furthermore, they never advertise the harmful effects of their products and everyone involved with the advertisements is well aware of it.
Secondly, we are surrounded by advertisements. Every median of media like print, digital is filled with advertisements about products. Media companies are only interested in generating revenues while neglecting the drawbacks of advertisements. Studies have shown that on an average around 20 percent of the newspaper is filled with ads. Goods are marketed in such a manner that even though they fall out of one’s reach, companies with the help of lenders and fixed payment schemes find a way to sell their products. Various trends have shown that we are becoming more materialistic as a society and companies are out there to exploit it.
To sum up, advertisements may help companies sell their products and reach to a wider audience but according to me they are exploiting the people’s needs. The amount of advertisements in the media should be regulated to a certain extent. (300 Words)

Artists are considered to be a national treasure as they help countries preserve and promote local culture. They also help in putting countries on the global map. Their source of funding is often argued on and some people think that creative artists should be financially backed by the government while others believe they should be funded by different medians. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss both sides and put forth my viewpoints.
Firstly, artists take time to develop their creations and they should be given time and money to nurture their skills. In this way they will be able to create their best piece of art. Moreover, they will not deviate from their field due to financial constraints and will be given ample amount of time to come up with their best work. Secondly, if the artists become successful, governments are able to generate huge revenues from their prized arts. Their work can be exhibited in national museums or their music can be copyrighted and sold via different music streaming websites. There are many clear examples of governments supporting artist and musicians. In my country, M.F Hussain produced his first well known painting at the age of 57. Had he not been supported till then, the world will never have known of his artworks.
On the other hand, artwork cannot fulfil the basic needs of people. Governments should be able to provide basic necessities of life to all its citizens before sponsoring art and culture. In many developing parts of the world, providing food and housing are still considered to be the primary objectives of the governments. Moreover, already having secured a funding, an artist might lose his zeal to succeed in life and may never be able to create his/her best form of art. Some of the best works of art are inspired by tough times.
To sum up, there are valid opinions on both sides. However, I feel that artists are those who can produce a work that not only transcends the mundane but also uplifts the viewer. There are clear differences between an artist and an ordinary person. Therefore, supporting artists is paramount in today’s time. (360 Words)

Dear Mrs Winfrey,
I hope you are well and in good health. Last week itself we were having a conversation about me going on a holiday and that you’ll take care of my house while I am away. It shouldn’t surprise you that I am off for a 2 week vacation starting next Monday and it’s my humble request to you to keep your promise.
My wife has been nagging a lot recently as we haven’t had a vacation for years. We came across a good deal on the internet and decided to go ahead with the plan. We’ll be off to Europe and then from there to Africa for the Nile cruise as visiting these places was on top of my bucket list.
The dogs will be with the in-laws so you need not worry about them. We are due an electrician visit next Tuesday at 3:00 as there is a fault with the circuits and I’ve given him your phone number so he’ll contact you directly. The gardener comes in twice every week and he’ll knock on your door for the keys. I’ve informed the bin man to collect the rubbish but just in case if he doesn’t please remind him. Lastly I’m due a parcel delivery for Thursday so please collect it on my behalf.

The world has seen a lot of changes in terms of technology. Handwriting played a pivotal role in written communication a few decades ago. However, that has changed in recent years and with the use of technology the importance of handwriting is gradually declining. Some experts believe that handwriting still holds a value while others disagree with them. This essay will look at both points of view and give my opinion about the same.
On one hand, the dependency upon handwriting has reduced significantly in today’s digital world. In some industries, handwriting has totally vanished and all the work gets done on computers. Media and research industry are the most common examples of fields which have seen a steady decline in use of handwriting over the course of years. On a personal level too, people have easy access to electronic devices like phones, tablets and computers etc. They are more interested in writing material on their devices as compared to a conventional notepad or paper.
On the contrary, education still forms an integral part of our education system due to the fact that majority of the exams are still handwritten. Those who are able to write legibly or articulately have an edge as compared to those who cannot. This is primarily because of the fact that handwriting still plays a vital role in academics. It is a well known fact that handwriting helps children in improving their concentration and significantly sharpens their memory. It also enhances their ability to organise their thoughts and express themselves.
To sum up, handwriting plays a pivotal role in our education system. Even though we are getting digitalised, still the importance of handwriting cannot be ignored and we should find a way to keep this dying skill alive. (293 Words)
