IELTS Cue Card Sample Questions # Good Service

Who does not loves restaurant? Well, I would agree that nothing can compare to the food we eat at home and going to restaurants regularly is not only difficult in our pockets but also not the best choice for our health. But, occasionally, going to those fancy restaurants and eating the fancy food, getting served, it is all so beautiful. But, what if, what if you are not served well. Imagine going to a restaurant and waiting for long minutes before you get water and then hours before you get your order. Or for that matter, getting stale food or cold food! The worst of all are the managers who do not try to rectify their mistakes or the service people who behave rudely. This time in our cue card we are talking about the time when instead of bad, you received a really good service.

Describe a time when you received a good service. You should say –

  • What was the service?
  • When and where did you receive the service?
  • Whom were you together with?

also, explain why did you like it?

SAMPLE ANSWER

Buying clothes for me has been the toughest thing to do. Not because it is something that bores me but growing up in an environment where I got them from others, I never knew how to buy clothes for myself. The first time I came to a new place for my job, I had to buy clothes and that to all alone. That was a terrible thing to do and when I went to the shopping mall, I felt irritation. The people around came asking if there is something they can help me with, giving me options and I would just go and check them.

I scrolled through the entire mall for about 2 hours checking clothes there and finally picking a set of clothes. Only to realize after a few minutes, that I wanted something else. The cashier there was very kind to me. He asked me to buy those clothes and get them changed the next day if I wished to. And I did exactly the same. The next day I went to the shop asking for a change.

This time, the cashier and his team helped me find the right clothes for me. They were very patient and understood that it is indeed the first time I am buying clothes and it is freaking me out. After hours of trying, I came back finally to the first set of clothes that I bought for myself and fell in love with the shop. The people there were more patient with me than most others. They waited patiently even giving me suggestions on what looks good to me and what does not. While leaving one of them said, “It probably was your first time and therefore was tough. But, keep doing things that you find scary or have never done before.”

That advice has been with me for a life.

The only thing that makes me visit a place again is the service of it and that is true for almost everyone. A few weeks ago along with my mother, I visited a local market in Pipli, a place near Bhubaneswar. The town is one of the most celebrated places in Orissa as people there sell handmade products. Most houses there have shops inside of their homes and earn a livelihood from selling their items.

We reached the place at around 5 and after roaming about and buying different things landed ourselves into a very small shop. But, what looked like to us like just a small shop turned out to the best experience we had in Pipli. The man had a house from where he sold his products. He asked us to move with him and on doing so, we found their entire family telling us all about their articles.

The entire process of buying was no longer about what looked best, but what actually was best. They all told us about how they made it, the colors they used and what time it took. The history of handmade products in Orissa and how it is exported to the entire country. The ways in which they make their lives and the difficulties.

I loved shopping at Pipli because when buying it was not about what I was buying but more about why I was doing it.

Sample Answer

I recently watched an amazing documentary that left a lasting impression on my mind. It’s called Kurt Cobain – Montage of Heck.
It is based on the real life story of the legendary musician and the lead guitarist of the band, Nirvana. The documentary is well-versed and depicts various aspects of his life. It describes his struggle against depression and drug addiction. It is heartbreaking to see his downfall which eventually led to his death at the age of 27. The documentary was released 2 decades after his suicide.
Kurt Cobain is one of my favorite musicians. I came across the documentary while reading an article that was published about him. The reviews were quite applauding and thoughtful. The critics praised the movie to their heart’s content. I was really impressed. So, I decided to watch it.
The documentary is an inspiration for the entire young generation today. It depicts the journey of a young talented musician who becomes addicted to drugs and eventually ends his life. The movie shows the struggle of an individual suffering from mental illness and his fight to overcome the trauma. Apart from this several personal audio recording and juvenilia are also added in the movie.
The documentary doesn’t only describe the man as a rock and roll saga and typical doomed artist but also gives an insight into his artistic expressions and his infamous relationship with his wife, Courtney Love. It taught me that the choice to be successful or unsuccessful lies only and only in my hands and as an individual one has to learn to differentiate as to what is preferable or not preferable for them as they grow up. Overall, it was an overwhelming documentary. I will surely recommend it to everyone.

SAMPLE ANSWER

The T.V. Show which I’m currently obsessed with is ‘Lucifer. It’s an American T.V. Series that was first premiered on Fox in 2016. The Show is about the life of the protagonist, Lucifer, who after being dissatisfied to be the Lord of Hell, resigns from his throne against the wishes of his father (God) and starts residing on Earth. He settles down in Los Angeles, where he ends up running his own nightclub by the name Lux and also guided the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department)

Lucifer, which was first broadcasted in 2016, has 5 seasons in total holding 24 episodes each. The show is broadcasted in every six months. After Fox cancelled the series, Netfix authorized it. The fifth and the final season is released in 2019.

The main actors of this Series include Tom Ellis, D.B. Woodside, Lauren German who play the book adaption characters of The Sandman. Out of all the actors, Tom Ellis who plays the character of Lucifer is my favorite mainly due to his charming personality, humorous dialogues and British accent.

The thing that interests me the most about the entire series are the celestial activities that take place from time to time among the biblical characters. The demonic possessions and their connection with the lifestyle of L.A. draws my undivided attention. The best part is although it’s fictional, the unrealistic characters appears to be so real to the viewers. Each episode has a new murder mystery to solve where Lucifer, Chloe and Dan work together. The thing that appeals to me was the mysterious ending of each episode where I couldn’t resist myself from watching the next episode.

IELTS speaking task Cue card

Describe a book that influenced you?

  • What that book was?
  • How you first heard of the book?
  • What is the main story of the book?
  • Why this book is important?

SAMPLE ANSWER

The book /novel that had a major impact and developed my interest in reading is ‘Wuthering Heights’ by Emily Bronte. It was published in 1840s, (1847 to be precise).Though many readers thought of it as a disturbing and a novel full of contradictions, I personally enjoyed every detail of it.

There’s a popular saying that there’s no friend as loyal as a book. Being a person of impatient and restless nature, I had the habit of not completing any book I started reading. It was when a teacher of mine recommended us to read the ‘Wuthering Heights’ while she was discussing about the Bronte sisters and Jane Eyre at a seminar.

The book is about a powerful love story of Heathcliff and Catherine, but it is very different from a typical love story as it follows the self-destructive way of Heathcliff and his vengeful nature due to his unrequited love for Catherine. The subject of revenge, envy, gender inequality clashes between social classes predominate the book. The novel also incorporates gothic and supernatural elements like the appearances of ghosts. Moreover, physical violence and abuse are also present in most part of this book.

The reason why ‘Wuthering Heights’ plays such a significant role in my life is that firstly, it is written by a female writer during those days when it was considered unethical for a woman to pen down her thoughts especially when the novel is autobiographical. Secondly, after reading this book my perspective towards English literature changed completely and I developed a keen interest in reading as well.

OTHER OPTIONS-

  1. ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’ was written by Robin Sharma in the late 1990s. It is a quite popular book among the youth of my country (India). In this book the author talks about different methods of achieving success in one’s life. It includes- cultivating one’s thoughts, being clear about one’s purpose in life, facing one’s fear, discipline and time management as a key to success. In the book, the author sells his mansion and Ferrari in order to head to the Himalayas to attain wisdom and knowledge.
  2. I Have A Dream’ is another Indian book authored by Rashmi Bansal in which the author illustrates the lives of twenty people who were social entrepreneurs. These people aimed to bring contentment and happiness in other’s lives. These social workers worked for the betterment of our society. It also shows that individual has the capacity to take up an issue and make this world a finer place to live in and highlights the power of determination.

DIFFICULT WORDS-

  • CONTRADICTIONS– a combination of statements, ideas, or features which are opposed to one another.
  • VENGEFUL– seeking to harm someone in return for a perceived injury.
  • UNETHICAL– not morally correct.
  • UNREQUITED– (for a feeling, especially love) not returned.
