There are so many times that we help people and more often receive help. Help is the only way, people  believe, that we remain human. A person who cannot help others is of no use being called human. Let us today have a look at a cue card that talks about a help that you received.

Describe a time when someone helped you.
You should say:
  • Who helped you
  • When it was
  • Why s/he helped you
And describe how you felt about it.
Sample Answer One

There have been many a times when I received help and it is something so often that I wonder what would have happened had I not received the help. But, I clearly remember a day when I was helped and I felt really nice.

I had to go to my brother’s college for some work and I was not aware of how to reach there. So, the local transport dropped me at a place and I thought from there the college would be a mere km away. Thinking that I started walking down the road but after walking around an hour I could not find even a hint of his college. As I was exhausted and started asking people as to where the college is, there came a boy in his scooty and told me that the college is really far and there is no way I can reach there on my foot. He asked me to get into his scooty.

Initially, I was scared, because I had really no idea about the place and it was all jungle around. So, either ways I hopped onto his scooty and he did dropped me outside the college. There were times when I was worried but he later asked me if I wanted to go back along with him as well. Although, I refused that help, I was really happy and felt grateful for his help. He did knew me and just like others he could have behaved strangely but he left me to my destination and in no ways sounded someone who wanted any evil out of me.

It was a true pure help and I wished him all the best for his life.

Sample Answer Two

There are so many times that I get help but the one time I remember getting help was when I was in eighth grade. I had decided to participate in our school annual festival and was among the seven girls who were part of the dance team. We used to practice a lot and everything but I was one of the weakest. There were times when it took me days to get  the step right and then there were days when I would just even after trying so much could not get the step right.

Those were some irritating days and after some time even my team members started coming in and telling that I should rather leave the group. My initial reaction was that I wont be leaving the group. I have practiced and I will do good. Although I had said that, I felt bad and I started crying in the stairs. May be my teacher came to know about it or whatever, she called me and told me that in life it is not how much you know but how much you practice to get what you want in life.

She told me that I had done a great thing and I should move on with it. After that, she started teaching me extra lesson for the dance and I was able to actually dance well than most of the girls in the school.

I remember it till now because it was for the first time, I can recall, I stood for myself. And then people did started coming in to help me. It felt great because I felt as if I am important as well and my opinion does matter. It has helped me a great deal to do things in life the way I do them now.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Accident That You Saw

Describe an accident that you saw-
You should say –
– Where the accident occurred?
– Where were you then?
– How the accident affected you?

Sample Answer:

Accidents do happen suddenly and they just change the way things happen after that. I remember this accident because it turned out to be actually one of the best things that had happened to me.
I remember leaving college that evening, when a boy I really hated in my class, was trying to show his stunts on bike to some of the people around. Everyone was cheering and it was all going fine. I had to go to the internet café and so I went there. After about an hour, while coming back, we had a long road that needed to be walked after which we reached the bus stop.
I was walking there and from nowhere, this boy came and did a wheelie and as I turned around, in a flip of a second, he was down on road and bang. For a second, I was shocked and went towards him. To my relief he was fine, as he was wearing a helmet, but his hands and legs had got badly bruised because the bike literally fell on him.
I got the bike and him separated, parked his bike to the side and took him to the college hospital. The nurse said he needs to stay there for a day, until he comes back to walkable stage. I was terrified at his sight that I almost forgot that he was the same boy I wanted to kill a day before. We chatted a lot that day after which he went to sleep and I was left with no other option but to be with him. His friends came along the next morning and were shocked to see me. Either ways, I parted my ways.

But, after that incident, two good things happened. First, he stopped doing stunts at random places and wore proper gears while doing them. Second, we turned out to be great friends, and that friendship is still alive after almost 7 years.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Journey You Went

Describe a journey you went on –
You must say –
– Where did you go on your journey?
– Why did you got to this particular place?
– What did you do and with whom?
and describe why you enjoyed your journey? Or if not why?

I like visiting to random places without much information and planning and figure out things for myself. One such trip that I took with my father was a journey to Nainital.

The journey was one of the best I had taken in several years and it happened around three years back. We all were at our maternal grand parents house and my uncle came and invited me, my brother and my cousin brother to go to Almora, that is the place where my paternal grand-parents lived. I was very much excited about the trip and had my bag packed and was about to leave when my mother objected, saying I can’t go.

I felt very bad and ended up crying that day. The next day my father came to me and said that he wanted to go to market to buy things and he wants me to come along. To my surprise instead of going to the market, we went on to the road that took us to Nainital, a hill station in India. It was a fantastic road with great weather. The best part was we were travelling on a scooty on hills, so we couldn’t go beyond 20 km/hr. Going smoothly and slowly, my father told me about his school days, he showed me the place he visited as a child and the first place he worked at. The journey was like a father telling his experiences to his daughter while driving a scooty in the hills and eating corn.

After about 2 hours, we reached Nainital, and that was really special, because me and my father were doing boating for the first time and that to together. It was Nainital and all of the hills were surrounding us, there was this beautiful voice of birds and ducks. He told me about how the place used to be and how it has changed. So, for me it was a very emotional and exciting trip.

On reaching home, everyone was like you just went for an hour and it is now ten hours. We all laughed and it is still the most memorable trip that I had.

cue card childhood memory IELTS BAND7 Image

Childhood is the most amazing stage, I believe, because you can do a lot mischiefs and people just overlook them. I have been a very mischievous kind of a girl childhood days. I remember, my mother had a beautiful garden and she was in love with her plants and flowers, like she is now That day, my uncle came for lunch and she was busy with hosting. My younger brother and I were playing in the garden and suddenly a beautiful flower caught my attention.

I don’t know but I just plucked it and my mother saw us doing it. She left all her work and came furiously running towards us. On top of my voice I said run and we both ran and our mother came towards us. Then came a sort of divider and we had to go across it. But, my little brother, who was a child, may be three or four years could not jump. My mother took hold of him and thrashed him badly for plucking the flower and I just ran away and came in the evening, by the time which the matter was solved.

I still remember it, because may be, people have told it to us many times and I also remembered a part of it. It didn’t affected much of my life but it is always fun to talk about it to my younger brother and tease him.
