IELTS Speaking Sample Answer # Time And Friends

There are so many people that we meet in our lives and then there are so many who stick with us for our entire lives but then there are some who are not able to stand the test of time. Yet, each friendship is unique and fills in our life so much of love. Let us today have a look at some of the time tested friendship.

How are your friendships different now than they were when you were a child?

As a child, everyone was my friend and yet no one was. I remember talking to certain set of people of some days and then talking to others on some other days. After some time, I met people with whom I chose to stick but the circle is somehow getting completed. Because, now I have lot of friends and the ones I hang out with change in every quarter or so.

How do you maintain a good friendship?

I think the only way to maintain good friendship is to make it transparent. When the other person knows you and understands your situations and trusts you that you will always say the truth, there are very few chances of ruining the friendship.

How do you make new friends?

There is never an attempt on my part to make friends deliberately. Yes, I do interact with people and for that matter lots of them and then during that interaction if I get to meet some people who are like minded and share the common worries we become friends.

How many people do you consider your “best friends?”

There are three people who are very close to me and know me inside out. They are the ones who understand me and know the things that I am facing, they know why I am reacting and there is so less to explain to them. So, I think these are the three people who are my best friends.

Is it common to have friendships across generations?

I don’t think so. I believe it is more common to have friendships in the same generation because there is this common view that the other might not understand us. But, when people from two generations become friends it is almost always amazing. Because there is so much that everyone can learn from each other.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of these types of friendships?

I think the major advantage is that everyone gets to learn a lot from the other person. Because both of them have different stance on the same thing and when these two stances meet, it is almost magical. On the other side, if people don’t understand that differences are bound to happen, friendships in two generations cannot happen.

time and friends

Do you have any friends from a different generation than you?

Yes I do have. Over the years, my parents have become my friends and I do share a lot of things with them. They are the ones who get to know what is happening in my life, first and things get told to the other world after that. It is amazing because they know what is happening and they do realize it and give me the best advice.

There is a saying “To have a good friend, you need to be a good friend.” How can you be a good friend?

To be a good friend, you need to be truthful to the other person. There are times when you can help and times when you cannot. To tell things as they are, is what makes a good friend. And then, you need to be able to keep things to yourself because it is only then that the other person can trust you. Also, if you try to understand the opinion of the other person, you do become a good friend indeed.

What do you usually do with your friends?

Most of the times we have fun together and fun for us could be either playing badminton or coding together or may be just hanging out like that sharing things with each other.

What factors may result in the breakdown of a good friendship?

The biggest thing in breaking a friendship or for that matter any relation is silence. When we choose to not talk about things that hurt us. When we are not loyal to the other person. So, may be ditching them or telling lies about them. May be not understanding the other person.

What is a best friend?

A friend who knows you inside out, who understands your point of view, who might not always agree with you but for sure will always support you. Who knows that there are times when you are wrong and can show you the right path.

What is the longest friendship that you have had?

The longest friendship would be the one that is the most special to me. My friend Vipula, we have been friends since I was in 11th class. So, it is almost eight years of we knowing each other. We have talked lot of paths together and it has been an amazing journey together.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Goals

There is so much that we all want to achieve in our lives, the dreams that we have, the ones that we all want to fulfill. Let us today, have a look at some of the questions related to goals, that might be asked in IELTS Speaking section.

What is your biggest goal in life?

The biggest goal that I have for my life is to be able to open a company that gives quality education to the poor. I know  that the government is doing a lot for the poor, but what often gets done is not of that quality as that of private companies. I want to open a company that can provide free quality education, the kind of education that teaches people to dream, to become engineers, doctors or painters or musicians.

How do you plan to achieve that goal?

Presently, I am working for a software company. After gaining some experience and building my network of people that will help in achieving that goal, I will go about opening the company. In the beginning, it will be more of at personal level, where I might be the teacher myself but in later years I think there will be more of teachers and better facilities.

What are your “short term” goals?

Presently, I am planning to go through all the textbooks till class 12th to understand the basic concepts of education. These are the concepts that I have ignored for a very long time, but I wish to get an in depth knowledge of them.

Should parents help their children set goals?

I think yes, they can always advice their children on goals but then they should not make try to enforce what they think should be the child’s goal. It is more of giving freedom to choose the goal, letting the child fall down and then get up. And in middle of it, helping the child whenever required, keeping an eye and making sure that in the fight of achieving goals, the child does not forgets to live life.

goals

What are your educational goals?

I want to do my Masters from Harvard University. I know that it is the world’s best university and I want to be part of it. Before that, I also wish to get into the Indian Institute of Technology. I want to break the taboo that only some special set of people can go to these elite colleges.

What are your career goals?

As far as my career is concerned, I wish to be able to explore myself and my potential more. There are certain areas that I wish to improve on and there are some that I have, but I wish to move ahead. I want to gain the expertise in my field of computer science. I want to be at the highest of my truest potential.

What are your financial goals?

When it comes to finance, I don’t have any particular goals. All that I want is when I wish to do something in my life, I have the money to be able to do it and at some point of time earn so much money that I am able to give it to the people in need without any desire of getting it back.

Why are goals important?

I think the main reason why goals are important is because they help you to stay on track. So, you are less likely  to get lost in the world of troubles and miseries because your aim is onto your goal and you tend to forget about everything because the entire focus is on achieving the goal.

Is having a goal in life effective in becoming successful?

Definitely yes. A person with goals is more likely to become successful because he or she might not fall for the traps that are there which tend to get us distracted. Doing something without knowing the reason for doing it, has no meaning at all and no matter how much an individual tries on it, there are more chances that he or she is likely to fail on it.

Is having a goal helpful in motivating a person?

Yes, it surely helps because when you have a goal there is so much going on your mind. There are so many plans that you make and you want to fulfill them. When you have a goal in mind there is nothing else that seems, the problems and the issues just fade away. The only thing that is running on the head is the goal and the only thing one can think of is the life after the goal is fulfilled.

Do you think people have fewer goals as they get older?

Too an extent yes, because people tend to fulfill their goals before that and as they get older they prefer enjoying life as it comes because they understand that it is more important to be able to enjoy life with people you love, care for them and fall in love. Money, goals and achievements take a back seat.

I can try naming some of them. There is scuba diving, kite surfing, sailing, snorkelling, wind surfing, white water rafting, sea kayaking, surfing, swimming and jet skiing.

Not being able to get clean drinking water is a big problem in many places. What are some ways in which people can be provided with clean water?

I do agree with the problem that people all around the world are facing regarding clean water. In my opinion, the easiest technique is conservation. Making sure that the water that we get from natural resources like rain are conserved well and then purified well. Apart from this, it comes upon government to ensure that everyone gets equal amount of water. It can be seen that some people are having more than required access to water while others are starving. Even more, different supply for water can be provided. Like for drinking water, fresh water should be given while for things like cleaning dishes and clothes, a little compromise on quality is possible.

Which is the biggest river in your country? How much polluted is it and would you ever try swimming in it?

Ganga is the biggest river of our country, stretching around 2500 km. Lately, Ganga was one of the most polluted rivers of our country, specially because of its religious importance.  Some materials like food, waste or leaves are left in the Ganga for ritualistic reasons. People come here to take a bath to wash away their sins. Also, with the establishment of industrial areas near it, there was lot of industrial waste getting accumulated in Ganga. However, in recent times it has seen some initiatives to get cleaned. I have tried swimming in Ganga but the shore that I chose was clean.

Where does the biggest city in your country get its clean water from?
The biggest city in my country is Mumbai. It gets its clean water from different sources, like Bhatsa, Tansa, Modak Sagar and the Vaitarna.

The world’s population is increasing rapidly. Getting clean water for everyone might become difficult in the future. Think of three ways we can avoid this problem.

I think awareness is the first thing that needs to be done. The way people were aware about AIDS or cancer, people need to be aware of the dead consequences of water shortage. Next, we need to bring out more tangible solutions for saving water. Simply putting down theoretical solutions won’t help us. Something like ensuring everyone, irrespective of the stature in society gets limited water. This will ensure that everyone gets water and at the same time we will be able to conserve water for future. Use of water for washing, cleaning etc should be limited or the quality of water for doing this should be changed.
