Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to report the loss of a valuable personal item on one of your trains.

The item is a navy blue laptop bag with the brand name ‘American Express’ embossed on the front. It has two zipped compartments. In one of the compartments I had kept my 15-inch Dell laptop. My passport, adaptor, mobile charger and some official documents were also inside.

Last Saturday, 15th March, I boarded the 2:30 pm train from Shimla to New Delhi. If I recall correctly, I was in the fourth carriage sitting near the front. I had kept the laptop bag in the overhead space. The long journey left me exhausted and while getting down, I forgot to take the bag with me.

Could you please let me know if a laptop bag of this description has been found? My phone number is 0091 7889898999. If you have it, please keep it in a safe place and I will make arrangements to collect it at your earliest convenience.

Dear Asha,

I hope you are doing well. It has been ages since I wrote to you. I was very busy with my board examinations. It is a big step towards my future. It seems to me as if the whole world is gearing up for a new beginning with unexpectedly surprising measures.

As for India, we are all demonetizing our ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes to battle black money. The expected amount to be ‘found’ is around £200 Billion GBP. Just take a moment to soak that all in. This is a gigantic move for India as sadly there is a lot of bribery and black money handling. Heck, every single person in India could be a mini millionaire if all of its wealth were to be distributed equally among its citizens.

Honestly, from my point of view the situation is pretty hilarious. As just yesterday people were trying to rake in as much money as possible, the bigger notes the better. And just in a matter of hours people went from gazing lovingly to simply hostilely glaring at bundles of money. Don’t you think all this is very humorous too?

But enough about my country, what about you? How do you feel about Donald Trump being elected? What new and unexpected things do you think will happen next?

Fly to Canada on a Study Visa* during a pandemic – support letter

Airport officials and immigration officers are asking for a support letter. This letter is issued by the relevant college/university authorities and includes all student information by which one will get permission to board their pre-booked flight.

The four main features of a support letter are as follows:

1. Student name, programme enrolment and fee submission status.

2. Online enrolment status.

3. Reasons for necessary travel. Some relevant points are given as follows:

-Bad internet connectivity: having insufficient bandwidth available to properly attend online classes.

-Electricity Issues: unreliable power supply leading to frequent power cuts and outages.

-Time Zone Issues: inability to study online due to very large time zone differences.

4. 14-Day Quarantine Period: Mentioning that one will be self-quarantining for 14 days along with details of where the planned stay will be, in a hotel or with relatives, is a crucial aspect of the support letter.

Please remember to make a departure file as well; this should include all the other relevant documents required by the airport officials when they ask for it.

In the current circumstances it is recommended to arrive 5-6 hours early so as to overcome long queues and smoothly complete all formalities such as check-ins or immigration.

Dear Mr Singh,

I am writing to you to see what can be done about the loud noise coming from your flat. It seems that you are renovating your kitchen.

In the evenings we hear a lot of banging, hammering and drilling. Thinking that the problem will be for one or two days only, I kept on ignoring the noise. But, more than 10 days have passed and the amount of noise is increasing day by day. The deafening sounds of hammers and drilling machines are spoiling our evenings. It has become almost impossible for me and my family to do anything in the evening. Kids have their exams in two weeks. Therefore, something must be done to solve this issue.

I understand that your full-time work does not permit you to call the workers during the daytime. I would suggest that you contact a professional builder and take some days off from work. Certainly, an experienced person will be more efficient. Both I and my wife are working and our children are in their schools, so any noise between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm will not affect us.
