    • What happened when you missed it ?

Sample Answer

Skilled people work with appointments. If you approach anyone without a prior appointment, you may be disappointed. But sometimes, there are circumstances that cause you to miss a scheduled appointment. Today, I would be mentioning a time when I missed a very important appointment. After completing my graduation, I was looking for a relevant job to bear my expenses. I searched for various jobs on online portals. I luckily found one and immediately applied for the same. The next day, I received a call from HR. She explained the selection process to get hired. I will have to clear two hiring rounds, a telephonic round and a face-to-face interview. I passed the telephonic round and was qualified to appear for the final round. The HR sent me the details about the timings and the venue. I was excited and confident about the interview. To avoid inconvenience, I left the house on time and was constantly on pins and needles. While commuting to the office, I got stuck in the tiring traffic congestion. I was getting this feeling that I would not be late and would reach the place on time. I tried contacting the manager to inform her about the situation, but I dropped the plan assuming it would not leave a good impression on her. After a while, traffic got cleared, and I took a sigh of relief. The moment I reached the address, I quickly rushed into the office but was half an hour late; on top of it, I had left my credentials at home. I felt horrible and somehow managed to control my tears. I was scared but kept my fingers crossed. The HR was not in a good mood and did not agree to proceed further with my interview. I tried to explain my situation but could not convince HR. That day, I learned an important lesson: if you want your time to be considered, you must respect others’ time. Being aware of the traffic problem in my city, I could have left my home early to prevent being late. Another lapse I committed was being reckless by getting over-excited. That resulted in leaving my credentials at home. That was one of the worst incidents I have encountered because of my negligence.

IELTS CUE CARD # DESCRIBE YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE. Best IELTS Band7 Coaching in dehradun

SAMPLE ANSWER-

There are some movies that we watch and forget while some others have an everlasting effect on our lives. I would like to talk about my favorite movie, 3 idiots. It is a Bollywood movie directed and produced by a well-known Indian director, Raj Kumar Hirani. Since it was based on a renowned novel ‘5 Points Someone’ and one of my favorite artist, Aamir Khan is casted in it, I was extremely eager to watch this film.

The film is focused on three college friends from a prestigious institution of India. The plot revolves around the protagonists belonging to different cultural backgrounds who have different goals in life but they end up in an engineering institution. Thus, talking about how Asian parents force the dreams on their children. One of them has a unique approach towards life and is blessed with a super technical mind. On the other hand, his friends were not that brilliant and were not interested in a particular field.

This movie was released in 2009 so it’s been quite a long time but it still remains on the top of my all-time favorite movies. I remember watching it with my friends during my school days. The film is beautifully crafted and has some exciting twists. It gained pretty good recognition among audience worldwide.

This is my favorite movie as it has many messages to deliver on friendship, success and the education system of our nation. The movie highlights a friendship bonding among three college friends. It also teaches about following our passion instead of worrying about grades in order to be accomplished in life. The film also questions the Indian education system where one gets job placement based on grades rather than creative ideas and invention.

IELTS Cue Card : How do old people spend their Leisure time?

How do old people spend their leisure time?

You should say:

  • Who they spend it with?
  • How often do they do it?
  • How do they like it?

Sample Answer

The way people spend their leisure time changes dramatically as they age. Old people mostly spend their time watching television or listening to the radio. I remember my grandfather wasn’t much interested in watching TV but he was big on the news. He used to listen to the news every night religiously, and then he would have a sort of round-table discussion over the current issues with his friends.

Another way old people get together is when they meet for a walk. They never miss a chance to catch up with their buddies while they get themselves some fresh air in the park every day. They would, actually, talk more but walk less. But it’s good. Old people need someone to talk to otherwise they feel very lonely and left out.

The third most common way of spending time for old people is to have fun with their grandchildren. In joint families, it’s mostly the grandparents who spend their time with the little children while their parents are busy at work. It is thought that since they were too busy while raising their own kids, old people now can sort of compensate it and enjoy their time frolicking with the toddlers.

IELTS CUE CARD – Talk about a time you set a goal

IELTS CUE CARD : Talk about a time you set a goal
You should say :
  • What was the goal?
  • Did you achieve the goal?
  • What did you learn along the way?
  • And Explain why you set that goal.

Sample Answer

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the world came to a standstill as strict lockdowns were enforced everywhere. With nowhere to go, time, weekdays, and routines  became an abstract alien concept to the majority of us. To keep myself preoccupied and to prevent myself from wasting this precious time, I set a few goals.
My goals were as follows: getting up early, every single day consistently; continue a modified version of my workout even at home; and to learn a new skill.
The first two goals were easy enough to implement once I got used to. I made sure to keep my favourite song as an alarm tone. Rather than keeping my phone next to me while sleeping, I started keeping it in the kitchen which was all the way across the apartment. Once in the kitchen, I had a glass of water and began my day with a big smile.
I soon noticed that getting up became easier every day, my moods got a whole lot better, and I just felt generally more productive. I managed to do variations of indoor yoga six days a week, for I gave myself a pass on Sundays. That’s another thing I did, I made sure not to lose track of the weekdays, I treated every day like a work vacation; a day to get the most out of.
Now as for my last goal, it was to learn a new skill to keep me focused. The skill I chose to learn was animation. It was slow, time-consuming work; reading from the manuals and online free tutorials I could get my hands on. But lo and behold, two weeks later I finished my very first simple animation of a 90-frame loop of a walking bird. I was very proud of my creation.
The lockdown in my city lasted for months but I am proud to say that I achieved the goals I  set for my self development. I even look forward to achieving them tomorrow, and every day that is to come in the future. The main thing I learned along this journey is realizing as an adult how much our choices reflect in our lifestyle. How little things change our day, how improvement actually feels, and how easy it is to take that first step into the unknown.
Useful words and their meanings
Lockdown an emergency situation in which people are not allowed to freely enter, leave, or move around in a building or area because of danger
Standstill a condition in which all movement or activity has stopped
lo and behold (a phrase) something that you say when you tell someone about something surprising that happened
