IELTS Essay: International committee to reduce the use of fossil fuels - agree/disagree? IELTS BAND7 DEHRADUN

Sample Answer:

Fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas are the primary source of energy in the world. These fuels have fuelled almost all major industries and economies across the globe. Sadly, there are no international rules to control the amount of fossil fuels used in any region of the world. Many experts have proposed the formation of an international board to address this issue. I strongly agree with this view.

To begin with, the world has overused fossil fuels without paying attention to their detrimental effects on our natural environment. Global warming and soaring air pollution levels have become a threat to our planet and our existence. All nations are experiencing a change in their climate. Their citizens are suffering from diseases caused by hazardous air pollutants. Unquestionably, these are international problems and resolving them is beyond the capacity of any one nation.

Furthermore, the reservoirs of coal, crude oil and natural gas are depleting at a rate faster than ever before. The day when these sources will not be able to support us is not very far. In fact, declining production levels have already weakened the economies of some major oil producing countries. Other countries are also witnessing an economic downturn. The situation is alarming.

Definitely, the way forward is global co-operation. An international panel is needed to resolve the problems caused by excessive consumption of oil, gas and other similar fuels. Economists and environmentalists should form the main body of the committee. Strict rules about the use of fossil fuels must be enforced in all countries irrespective of their economic position. In addition, the committee should focus on the research and development of sustainable means of energy.

To conclude, the unquenched thirst for development and the rise in the global population have exacerbated immense pressure on fossil fuels. Personally, I believe that sincere efforts at a global level are required to mitigate the problems that excessive exploitation of non-renewable fuels has caused.

IELTS Essay AGREE/DISAGREE # Face-to-face Communication

IELTS Essay Agree / Disagree # Face-to-face Communication

Write 250 words on the following topic, give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication such as letters, email, or telephone calls.
How far you agree or disagree with this statement?

Sample Answer

In this day and age, the way people interact and communicate with each other is greatly influenced by technology. The technological developments in the last few decades have opened gates to a plethora of wireless electronic devices which enable us to be in touch with people around the globe. However, the lack of direct interaction which these modern modes offer, make some people question their effectiveness. I personally believe that although it is undeniably true that letters, emails and telephonic conversations have shrunk the world, they cannot replace the personal touch that face-to-face interaction offers.
The first point to consider is that globalization has been made possible through the modern communication methods. One can easily contact and speak to a friend, relative, business partner, etc sitting at the other end of the world. The time zones and boundaries no longer exist with facilities like messenger services and emails. Certainly, this was not possible in the past when people only relied on personal meetings, especially with those located at far off places. Getting to meet people in other countries meant months of waiting and huge expenditure before one could actually travel to those locations.
While on the other hand, interaction in person provides an opportunity to express your true emotions and warmth which mails and phone calls lack. Not only do face-to-face meetings provide a glimpse of important personality cues like body language but also guide immensely to judge a person through his/her gestures and moves. What’s more, a personal meeting has a long lasting impression on the mind making the individual unforgettable for days to come. An actual meeting with a loved one gives so much of joy that a chat on the phone can never replace.
All in all, modern electronic modes have played a vital role in globalization bridging the gap between different corners of the world. Not only they have they boosted international business but also strengthened relationships. Nevertheless, these methods, in my personal opinion cannot replace the traditional face-to-face meetings which still have an edge due to their personal touch and warmth. (346 Words)

Essay # First Impression Is The Last Impression

First impression is the last impression. Some people believe that if you give a good interview, chances are high that you may get selected for the job. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Write 250 words, give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

SAMPLE ANSWER ONE

In this ever-changing materialistic and demanding world, our attitude and behavior change as per the situation. The competitive age has forced everyone to make an everlasting first impression. Even though we may not agree to it, as a society we have become more judgemental and perceive our thoughts based solely on the person’s appearance. However, to say that the first impression is the last impression would be an exaggeration. With effort one can definitely change the wind in his or her favor.

For instance, when going for a job interview, the person conducting the interview has numerous candidates for a particular vacancy. During the interview, it is therefore important to be at the most presentable state. The appearance and body language should make one stand apart from other candidates. Numerous surveys have shown that people who take care of their looks and try to make a positive first impression are more successful in life. In professional life, a good first impression can open doors to many other possibilities. In the words of Andrew Grant “You never get a second chance to make the first Impression” so one should always try their best.

Overall, even though mistakes can be rectified, not everyone gets a second chance in life. Life is unpredictable and we should be at our best at the first instance as you may not be, you will have to work very hard till the next opportunity comes.

SAMPLE ANSWER TWO

We are in the age where the world is rapidly moving towards digitalization. Everything from clocks to books; cars to airplanes; relationships to businesses have become digital. We are not concern about the results anymore, all we are bothered is whether the result was on time or not. And this time, the “time” has changed from being analog to digital. Seconds, even milliseconds do matter.

Running in this maddening race, where time and chances are scarce, first impressions certainly matter. Even more, with the huge disparity between the number of jobs and the applicants, the competition has increased multifold, often resulting in a decision based on the first impression. For instance, a person taking the interview has got merely 20 or 30 minutes to decide whether to take you or leave you. So, it is quite obvious that the interviewer’s decision depends entirely on what you project in those minutes.

However, when a sphere of society changes it does not means that the shift is in the entire society. First impressions do matter, but they are usually looked upon in short term goals. For example-: Oprah Winfrey was rejected from a news channel stating she is unfit for television. She went on to become the most famous television personalities of all times. Her first impression was surely not the last.  One can surely consider Steve Jobs, who was famously thrown away from his own company only to go back and build it better!

To sum up, first impressions matter but the quicker the impression formed, the shorter it is lived. So, even if your first impression turns out to be a disaster, it can always be changed if you are determined to do so.

IELTS Writing Sample Answer # Part Time Jobs

Some countries motivate students to take up part-time jobs while others disagree. Give your opinion and explain both sides.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Education without any practical knowledge is often considered a waste, while an improper knowledge leads to unskilled individuals. Most countries across the world motivate the students to take up part-time jobs related to their field of study. However, in some countries, the focus is entirely on the curriculum of the school. Although both the approaches have their cons and pros, in my opinion, working part-time has more benefits to the students than the later.

Working part-time along with studying helps students in building inter-personal skills along with communication skills. Even more, when students at early age understand how hard it is to earn money, they tend to use their financial resources more cautiously. In addition, most students have dim clarity about their future job, taking on several part-time jobs allows them to take a better future decision. Part-time jobs have allowed teenagers to build positive ramifications in their lives.

In contradiction, for teenagers, the highest priority must be their assignments and learning. Working often shifts their concentration from learning towards money-making, which has its detrimental effects later in the future. In addition, the nature of the job has a very high impact on the individuals. For instance, a teenager doing a manual labor job along with studies might get distracted from studies.

Overall, part-time jobs do have their pros and cons for individuals. But, if the nature of the work is taken into consideration, it can do wonders for students. Doing a job for skills can not only put them in a better place for future decisions, it can also broaden their perspectives.
