SAMPLE ANSWER

India is densely populated, so if we are stepping out of our homes we hardly find a place which is not crowded. I normally avoid visiting overcrowded places.

Recently a Shopping Complex was inaugurated in my hometown. It is situated on the outskirts. A lot of advertisements appeared in the local newspaper to promote it. One weekend I decided to visit the Shopping Complex with my friend. It was Sunday and we planned to go there in the afternoon. We reached the Complex around 3 p.m. I was in the mood of shopping clothes so we headed towards a clothes store inside the Complex. Both of us selected few garments and went towards the trial room to try the outfits.

Surprisingly, there was a long queue outside the trial room. I found it really funny.  My friend and I started giggling about it while waiting for our turn. After waiting for about 15 minutes we were able to try our clothes. Both of us selected a dress each and went towards the billing counter to make payment. On finding a queue there I started laughing again and nudged my friend while waiting for our turn.

As soon as we paid our bills we rushed towards the Food Court as we were quite hungry. It was 5 pm already and the Food Court too was packed with people. With great difficulty we managed to buy burgers and fries for ourselves. While we were eating, the crowd kept on increasing.

We quickly finished our meal as I started feeling suffocated. I rushed out of the Complex gasping for fresh air.

That day, I decided I won’t visit this Complex on a Sunday ever again.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Each one of us has personal preferences regarding the season they like. Some like summers, some like winters while others enjoy the rainy season. If I talk about myself, my favourite season is the winter.

I was born and brought up in Dehradun popularly called the Doon valley. It is situated in the foothills of Mussoorie, one of the coldest hill stations of Northern India. Due to its geographical location the Doon enjoys all four seasons. The weather begins to change around mid-October, when the mornings and evenings start getting a bit colder. The winter season sets in November and ends in February. Despite being cold, the days are sunny. I like to bask in the sun with a hot cup of tea and read a book on a cold sunny morning. I usually spend hours reading in my garden without really being bothered by what’s happening around. There are special flowers that bloom during this season, the chrysanthemums and marigolds are the most common varieties. I love to gaze at these flowers in my garden in between my reading sessions.

A wide range of winter foods is another specialty of this season. I love to cook and I spend my time in the kitchen cooking hot meals which are a favourite among all my family members. Usually, at the end of the day I take a cup of hot milk and watch my favourite TV show before going to bed.

I follow this routine throughout the 3-4 months of the winter that prevails in my town. This is the most enjoyable period of the year. I always look forward to this season.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Females these days are playing a bigger role in business and politics. There are several countries where women are working as Heads of State. In my country also, a lot of females are venturing into politics.

A popular Indian female leader is Menaka Gandhi. I first came to know about her while watching news on TV. She was giving an interview on animal rights and environment protection. That’s how I came to know that she was an animal rights activist, environmentalist and a politician as well. She has been a Minister in the Indian government heading Ministry of Environment as well as Ministry of Women & Child Development.

She became quite famous when she started an organization ‘People for Animals’. It is the largest organization for animal rights and welfare in India. Her popularity rose further when she started propagating, through her public interviews to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle comprising of vegan diet. She also urged people to protect the environment through lifestyle changes.

I too was impressed by the ideas she advocated through her interviews and the books she wrote. In fact, I turned into a vegetarian after being inspired by her. Another thing that I like about her is that she takes up causes related to uplifting women in our society. She introduced several policies in favour of women while she was serving as a Minister.

She is a true role model for today’s generation and I admire her for her intelligence, courage and perseverance to bring about a radical change in the Indian society.

Sample Answer

The line graph illustrates the variations in the percentage of old people aged 65 and above in Japan, Sweden and USA over a 100-year period from 1940 to 2040.
In 1940, just under ten percent of the US population was 65 and over, the highest figure among the listed countries. Sweden and Japan stood at the second and third place respectively with nearly 7% and 5% population in this age range. In the next 50 years (i.e. 1940-1990), the curves followed strikingly similar upward trends in western countries. The proportion of elderly in the USA reached the mark of 15% whereas the percentage was slightly less than 15% in Sweden. In comparison, there was a small decrease of about 2% in the Japanese figures during this period.

Between 1990 and the present, the American figures remained constant while Sweden and Japan experienced a gradual increase in their percentages. Notably, these proportions are expected to rise dramatically in the next two decades in all the three countries. By 2040, the ageing population will account for nearly one fourth of the total population in these nations.

Overall, it is evident that the proportion of elderly people has risen in all the given countries. This trend is predicted to continue in the future and by 2040, these countries will have a similar number of old people (about 25%). (225 Words)
