Sample Answer:

I am a person of varied taste when it comes to reading a book, watching a movie and or listening to music. When it comes to movies, I prefer watching sci-fi the most. Today I would like to talk about a Hollywood sci-fi movie “The Martian” 2015. Mark was the lead character, which was played by Matt Damon.

The plot of the movie is pretty simple yet it keeps you woven and intrigued. Mark gets stranded on Mars because of a storm, his team thinks he is dead, as the last telemetry from his suit indicates no sign of life. From here on his journey of survival on Mars begins. Mark, being a botanist, improvises a farm inside the habitat utilising Martian soil fertilized with human waste. He even produces water by extracting hydrogen from leftover rocket fuel, and utilizes the stock of potatoes he had from his expedition to make new crop of potatoes for himself, as he was to stay there for another 4 years before help could be sent to him.

The story-line has a huge significance with today’s age as we are eagerly looking forward to colonise the Mars. Even NASA assisted the filmmakers with depicting the science and technology in ‘The Martian’ since it saw the movie has a potential of promoting space exploration.

Right from my early childhood days, like any other kid of my age I was really fascinated by outer space, the universe and the explorations made by the astronauts. One thing which has always fascinated me, is the possibility of life on the other planets. To an extent, the movie has answered this question and also solidified my belief regarding the possibility of life beyond our planet Earth. (287 Words)

SAMPLE ANSWER

Over a period of time, I have realized that if you love doing something it always brings new opportunities and excitement in life. Today, I am going to talk about a thrilling day I got to spent because of my job. It was a few years back and I was working for a writing company back then. My job was to create new blogs for their website and it was mostly working from home. However, I used to often go to the office to meet the staff and my senior for inputs on the website.

One day, my senior asked me to write a script for the product the company will be releasing in the upcoming quarter. It sounded so exciting to me that once I had written the script I thought the work was done. Until one day I was told that I will be the assistant director for the shoot. The day of the shoot came on a fly. On the day of the shoot, I got to meet the best photographer of our town and then a really good actress. The entire day when by in cuts, retakes and it was really exciting.

The mere fact that I was on the sets of a shoot gave me goosebumps. The takes and retakes made feel as if I am a director. I remember coming back home late and my mother scolding me, but it was the best day I had lived in some while and nothing else mattered.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Animals

Animals are the part of our lives, whether we believe it or not. The food chain, the food webs and the ecosystem, they all make what we call our life. In this IELTS speaking section, we are looking at some of the questions related to animals asked in a recent IELTS exam.

Which animal do you find interesting?

There are many wild and pet animals to choose from but I find monkeys the most interesting. They are the hoppers, the go-getters, the friends. It is so easy to see them laughing with their friends or helping each other. Not only that, science predicts them to be closer to human species which makes them interesting to me.

What is your opinion about animals being kept in prison?

Keeping animals in captivity is one of the most horrendous of crimes humans do, in my opinion. We have become more greedy and selfish than ever before. For fulfilling our needs, we have taken away the habitats of animals forcing them into prisons. I have been to zoo few times and seen some of them depressed with their lifestyle.

Do you think government can do something about animals being kept in prison?

With the increasing human population and the human demands, freeing animals is not the most pragmatic thing to accept from our governments. But, I believe that animals should be kept in places closer to their habitats or similar to their habitat. Also, for animals on verge of extinction, special care must be taken.

How do you think government can protect animals from poachers, hunters, and people who kill animals for prey?

The government has to change their perspective from laws for people who kill towards how to protect. For instance, the security system must be tightened around the endangered species. Also, education can be used to impart the knowledge about different species. There can even be ad campaigns showing the different species and why they are important. Like, there are ads for smoking and cancer, so should be there for the safety of animals.

What is your opinion for using animals as beasts of burden?

I would choose the grey color. One cannot deny that we do need animals for carrying our burden sometimes, like donkeys for carrying good or horses for traveling or ox for pulling carts. But, the problem is when we overdo it. Making a donkey bare a load more than he can carry or not give enough food is something that must be refrained from. Also, with the advancement in technology, one can obviously look for the other alternatives.

Do you think that the relationship between animals and humans is changing or is likely to change in future?

Times are definitely evolving and things and relationships around us are changing, including the one between humans and animals. In the fast-paced life that we now live, no one has the time left to have a pet or take care of animals around! In earlier days, people ensure they had water and food on their rooftops for the animals and gave away food the street dogs. Although in towns still there is a connection between animals and humans, in cities it is slowing fading away.

IELTS Essay# Checking Health related problems on the Internet

IELTS Essay Checking Health related problems on the Internet

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.
Write on the following topic:
Recent research has shown a spike in people checking their health related problems on the internet rather than relying on authorised practitioners. What are the reasons behind this trend? Is this a positive or negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 250 words.

Sameple Answer:

The fact that we can have any and all of our queries solved by 5 different sources, sitting in the comfort of our own home and a few clicks away is a great boon for today’s generations. While it is unlikely for us to own entire encyclopaedic medical text books in our home we can easily find the same online and in abundance with personal experience, advice and more included. This rising self-diagnosis trend does not surprise myself in the least.
While most of these diagnosis websites are officially monitored, written and controlled by medical authorities there are still an abundance of fake, well-meaning but ill advisory sources out there.
Common advice dictates that one should consult the doctor before and after checking their problems on the internet when serious illnesses are concerned. However where seasonal and home treatable ailments are concerned such as common colds, fevers, headaches, coughs, minor allergies etc. it is okay to refer to online help exclusively. Another reason for today’s help choices would be the relative isolation we generally find ourselves in. We no longer live in a tightly bound social fabric, but rather in a loose distant and independent web.
This trend can be taken as a positive substitute for advice from relatives, friends and neighbours, although as it is while we would be better off under the care of nurses we simply choose to treat ourselves may it be for the expenses or the unwillingness to miss out on official work. There is also the added benefit of being able to order your medication online, even when your neighbouring pharmacy may be all out of stock.
The only possible drawbacks of this phenomenon would be reliance on amature advice and not checking the same with official sources, but even in the real world we do run the risk of being scammed, at least online we ourselves would be to blame for not double checking.
So to conclude I would say as general consensus stands this is a positive development considering how society and its expectations are changing, how online diagnosis not only saves our money, time and energy but also provides us with advice, feedback and personal experience from individuals going through the very same thing we may be experiencing.
