Sample answer

Gifting is a great idea that has been around since an eternity. It displays the ideology of giving someone something extra to show your affection towards them. It is a beautiful custom that spreads the beauty of togetherness and love for the people around us. I have come a long way in life and made many amazing relations on the way. I have often shown my gratitude and love to them by gifting as well.

After settling in a new city for a new job, I met a school friend of mine at a cafeteria. We had a long conversation and he told me he was married and had a young daughter as well. While leaving he also invited me to his daughter’s birthday celebration and insisted on my presence. I obliged by agreeing to come, but I was at my wit’s end while choosing a suitable gift. Since I did not know what would be suitable to gift, I gave it a long thought. I then simply put a sum of 3000 rupees in an envelope and left for the party. It was a grand occasion with smiling faces all around. The little girl was very happy to receive all those gifts.

I felt really good about my choice of gift, as the money is highly tangible, and the parents can decide what is best for her daughter. Basically, I have just given them a choice to decide what to buy for her, in a cordial manner. I can be at ease, knowing that she will receive an apt gift from my end, at the end of the day.

Sample Answer

I live in the main area of my city which is also the center of various shopping malls. On top of it, new shops keep opening every now and then. Sometimes I visit them to see what they have to offer or may be buy anything of need. Recently a famous brand, Lenskart opened up its chain in our city.

The store deals with eye wears and is opened in the most prominent shopping mall of our city, the Amanora Mall. It offers lenses, sunglasses, spectacles, glasses and frames to suit everyone’s requirements. The store is very spacious with the entrance wall made of all glass and is flush with the glass door and the remaining walls have intricate displays lined with different frames and accessories in an orderly manner. The frames and glasses are displayed by brands, sizes, and designs. The center of the showroom contains another centerpiece lined with more glasses and frames on display. Lying next to it are a few chairs for elderly people who might visit. Behind the billing counter on the far side, they have an elaborate eye testing machinery setup. The staff is trained and conduct free eye tests for everyone with dexterity.

I went to visit the store two days ago, with my sister. She wanted a new pair of glasses, so we went, browsed, and she chose a pair of stylish rimless glasses. While she was browsing, the store offered me a free eye check-up, and I went in to get it done. The staff is cordial and jolly, and we spoke to them while my sister got the billing done. If in future I need any eye wear, I will definitely visit there again.

People have come a lot closer in modern times. Migrating and visiting places has become very easy. Trade and exchange between countries have developed drastically, and languages play a very important role in such processes. Even though people have a few common communication languages that are spoken worldwide, it is always good to learn a new language. It can not only have a lasting impact on the native speakers but develop one’s intellect as well.

It is proven that people speaking more languages are more adept and have better personalities than people who don’t. I keep visiting new places, and I have been fascinated by a lot of different languages. I wish to learn most of them, but the most fascinating language that I wish to learn is Arabic. It is a beautiful language that is spoken in Middle Eastern countries such as the U.A.E, and Saudi Arabia. I heard it during my time in Dubai, and I wish to learn it with best efforts. It is a highly efficient language with a comfortable rate of speech. It is beautiful in its own way, whether it is the written words or spoken ones.

The songs and poems are equally enchanting and are great to listen. This language aptly represents the Islamic culture and traditions to their best and showcases the beauty that lies within that world. I wish to settle down in Dubai after my retirement and wish to be able to better communicate with the natives in order to adapt and fully comprehend their amazing lifestyles. This is the reason behind my idea to learn Arabic.

IELTS Cue Card 2024: Describe a time when you were late.

Describe a time when you were late.

You should say:

  • When it was ?
  • Why you were late ?
  • How you felt about being late ?

Sample Answer
I am a very conscientious person and try to arrive on time everywhere. I acquired this habit from my father, who is a very disciplined and punctual person. He always told me that punctuality reflects dependability to others. Whenever I have some appointments or deadlines I make sure to take extra precautions and aim to arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. However, there have been some instances where I have still been late even after that extra time buffer. For instance, I recall being late for one of my B.ed exams. It was back in the year 2018 when I was appearing for my B.ed exams. My examination center happen to be in the outskirts of Yamunanagar a district in the state of Haryana. It was around 30 kilometers away from my hometown . So I got ready at the crack of dawn to leave at around 7am in order to reach on time. My dad accompanied me and we reached the station by 7:30. On arrival we came to know that all the trains to Haryana were running late. So, we decided to catch a bus as the bus stop was nearby. Somehow we managed to get into a crowded bus. We had reached halfway when the main problem occurred. There was a massive traffic jam on our way because, the previous night two trucks, filled with wood logs had collided and the roads were all covered with those logs of wood. It was already 10am and we were stressed. People starting getting out of the bus and we too went out. We tried hard to get an auto to reach the examination center but it was of no use. The examination center was still at a distance of 10 kilometers. Time was passing by but we were not able to get any conveyance to reach the center. It was 10:50 and I started to panic, at that very instance, an old man was passing by, on a bike and on seeing us he stopped at once, and offered help. We sat on his bike and somehow managed to reach the center by 11:15. Though I was late for my examination but the center superintendent allowed me to appear for my exam after hearing my side of the story. To cap it all, I would say it was an unforgettable experience for me. And I felt terrible for being late for my examination.
