Describe a development in your city (e.g. shopping center, club, etc).

You should know:

  • what development is it?
  • where is it located?
  • What are its features and benefits?
  • How often do you visit it?

Sample Answer

I live in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand state. It is a prominent city in the region and is home to many markets, complexes, and offices amongst other buildings. The most recent development in the city is the Promenade shopping complex. It is the largest shopping mall in the city. It is located in the city center,  near the clock tower.

A huge and marvelous building with an all-glass front, it is splendid to look at. It is a five storey building with two extra floors dedicated to the parking space in the basement. Each floor has many large showrooms occupied by different brands. Additionally, every floor has small shops, confectionaries and food stalls in the central area. There is a dedicated food court on the top floor. The place has a vibrant mix of colors with the ambient background lighting and other subtle décor materials.

It is a great place for an outing and offers a comfortable and eventful visiting experience. Besides the shops and showrooms, the complex houses a cinema hall, a children’s playing area, and other modern amenities blended into the building. The staff is very nice and helpful, and the brands have all the latest products available. I’ve been there many times with family and friends, and have enjoyed my visits thoroughly. I visit this complex mostly on the weekends for watching movies, shopping or having a special lunch.

IELTS Cue Card : Talk about a time when you complained about something.

Talk about a time when you complained about something.

You should know:

  • What was the issue?
  • Who did you complain about it?
  • What was the result?
  • How did you feel about it?

Sample answer:

Complaining about a product or service that we buy is a common phenomenon. I have also complained about the problems relating to the products that I purchase. Today I am going talk about one such time.

I am very fond of electronic gadgets and I always buy the latest items that are released in the market.  I recently purchased a new phone from a renowned outlet in my city. It was a smartphone and I liked it very much.

For the first two days, the phone worked well. But, after that the screen stopped working while being on charge. This sudden issue in the device both surprised and saddened me. I tried to power the device, switched on and off and followed all the steps listed in the user manual, but the problem did not solve. Eventually, I called up the customer service centre to lodge a complain and explained the issue to the executive. Initially, he made me reboot the phone and reconnect the battery. When these steps did not help at all, I was asked to bring the phone to the outlet.

I immediately went to the store and gave the phone at the counter. After checking the device, the staff on duty told me  that it was a software issue. The staff were very polite. They fixed the issue very quickly, without any extra cost. I was very happy with the prompt professional service and support provided by the staff. I thanked them and returned home with a positive experience.

IELTS Cue Card: Describe a television programme that you watch

Describe a television programme that you watch.

You should say:

  • What kind of television programme it is?
  • What usually happens in the television programme?
  • Why you enjoy watching the television programme?

And explain why you would recommend the television programme to the other people.

Sample Answer:

I don’t watch TV so often but whenever I find a chance I always try and watch a show called “Kings of Restoration”. It is featured on the History Channel. It is a great show for anyone who has an interest in art and creativity.

The show starts with the announcement of the product received recently for restoration. Rick Dale, the owner and the host along with his team explores the product and tells about its current condition and what ideas they have for fixing it.  They get a variety of products from old broken vending machines to automobiles. The whole team works hands in hands to get the original raw parts and prepare the required designs. The show telecasts the way they work on each of the old part.

I love watching this show for a number of reasons. I used to team up with my dad as a child and watch the whole series with uttermost fascination. So, this show holds memories with my dad. As both of us have a deep profound interest in machines and tools, we would often talk over our own suggestions and ideas while watching it.

This TV programme has also helped me come up with a lot of creative solutions for my old goods and helped me restore many items that weren’t in use. The best part about the show is always the ending scene when they finally give away the restored product to the owner. It leaves everyone of us including the customer enthralled and amazed. I recommend this show to everyone because it’s a perfect Sunday afternoon show for both the young and old. It not only entertains the viewers but also provides a lot of knowledge at the same time.

Describe your hometown.

You should know:

  • Where is your hometown?
  • What is it famous for?
  • What do people do here?

My hometown is Dehradun. It is a valley town nestled in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. Picturesque sights and natural landscapes make it one of the most beautiful places to visit in India. It is also the state capital of Uttarakhand, and is about two hundred and fifty kilometers away from the national capital, New Delhi.

For its central location and religious significance, Dehradun is colloquially known as the gateway to God’s abode. Apart from the holy spirit, tourist attractions like Mussoorie, Kempty falls, Camel’s back mountains, Robber’s cave and the Forest Research Institute give Dehradun a different feel. Adding further, this city is renowned as an education hub. Students of all age groups from different parts of the country come to study here.

Another notable centre of attraction in Dehradun is the prestigious Indian Military Academy. It is a crown jewel which imparts a glorious prestige to the whole state of Uttarakhand. The pleasant weather of Dehradun also deserves special mention here. It is one of the few places in the country where one can experience five different seasons of the year.

In terms of the infrastructure and businesses, Dehradun is developing gradually.  Education, manufacturing, food production and information technology are the main sectors which provide employment to a large number of people. As a whole, Dehradun has its own unique essence that the locals cherish. Its natural beauty, weather and quality of life, all make it a lovable place for everyone, including me.
