There is no doubt that getting up early in the morning is always a good idea. Since ages it has been advocated that getting up early is good for our health. I too try to get up early in the morning so that I can utilise my time in the morning by doing some physical exercise. Due to my hectic work schedule I do not get enough time for physical activities throughout the day.

If I recall a time when I had to wake up extremely early in the morning, it was when I was supposed to board my first flight. I was travelling from Mumbai to Delhi and I had to take early morning 7 am flight to reach Delhi to attend a seminar which was scheduled to begin at 10 am and I didn’t want to get late. So I decided to take a morning flight to reach there on time.

I asked my Mom to wake me up and I also set an alarm for 3 am so that I could leave my house well in time. As it was my first journey by air I was extremely excited and kept visualising my trip while I lay in bed.

When my alarm rang in the morning, it was very hard for me to wake up but then I forced myself and got up. I quickly got ready, had my breakfast and by 4 am I was on my way to the airport with my father in his car. We left early as we didn’t want to get stuck in the traffic jam, which is a usual sight on the road to the airport.

I reached the airport at around 5 am, passed through security and boarded the plane, excited and happy to start my first plane journey.

Ever since, I decided to be an early riser. And nowadays my profession also demands me to get up early in the morning.

SAMPLE ANSWER TWO-

People generally follow a discipline in their lives regarding day to day activities. For instance, most of the people have their almost fixed schedule for waking, going to office and returning, evening walks or exercises and finally going to sleep at the end of the day. This routine, over a period of time, turns into an inseparable habit and one sticks to it necessarily. On the same pattern, we can generalize that youngsters usually have a habit of sleeping and waking up in the late hours and I am no exception here. Almost every night, I sleep around midnight hours and wake up around 8 in the morning. But, there was one-time period, which I can recall vividly, when I used to wake up at 3 am in the morning. It was, when I had a three-day stay with my parents in an Ashram in Hardwar.

Ashram had its own regulations and code of conduct. Whoever used to stay there, for spiritual reasons only, had had to attend the early morning rituals and needed to pay offerings to the fire god. Even though there was no punishment ascribed for the absence, but the spirituality factor itself was the primary motivation for my parents, who then enjoined me to be a part of the morning ceremony.

After waking up, we had to make up our beds first and then we needed to take ablution in cold Ganges water. Thereafter, we had to adorn the particular clothing provided by ashram and stand in the queue, waiting for our turn to sit around fire pits and pay offerings.

Well, since I was habituated to wake up late, therefore it was a painstaking task for me for the first two days. My father used to switch on the lights and started hymning bhajans which automatically made me awake, although with a little irritation. But, once I became the part of that community consciousness in the rituals and ceremonies, I used to feel a very pleasant divine feeling. Meditative practices and postures, followed afterwards, dispersed waves of tranquillity in those crimson lights of the early dawn. I, then felt the importance of the morning calm and woke up voluntarily on the third and final day.

Sample Answer :

People definitely experience excursions to several places in their lifetime. Visiting places containing different essence brings amusement and joy to our daily ordinary lives. I also happened to visit a place embodying the ancient art and culture. Through my interactions and reading of inscriptions, I truly added to my knowledge. They were the majestic caves of Ajanta and Ellora, located near Aurangabad in Maharashtra. They are basically the mural paintings on walls and roofs dedicated to the teachings of Hinduism and Buddhism. They were built by Rashtrakuta rulers of 7th century.  I visited them in my school summer break, back in 2020.

I went there along with my family; my mother, father and my elder brother. My brother was having his college break at that time. My brother always used to talk about the caves as a masterpiece of art and culture. So, my father applied for leave at his office, made our travel bookings by train and we together left for Aurangabad.

Well, as for me, it was a fascinating experience visiting the caves which are a museum of ancient art and culture. I was mesmerized to see the craftsmanship of the workers involved in this architecture. I saw the wall paintings and engravings of several Hindu gods and goddesses. Natural kaleidoscopic play of colours in these paintings is still intact. Krishna temple is the most fabulous temple inside. I totally felt like carried away by the tides of time. I was amazed to see the art marvel built in times of no technology and heavy machines. Simultaneously, I was getting goose bumps after reading and discussing the details of various temples in the precinct.

That trip triggered my love for ancient Indian art and culture. I even recorded the details in my diary. If I get another chance to revisit, I would definitely be more than willing. Those memoirs of the beauty carved in the stone are the indelible imprints in my mind, which keep on calling me for another visit.

I belong to Delhi and I completed my post-graduation in Business Administration six months ago. Since I was not willing to leave my parents alone, I was looking for a suitable job in Delhi only. In spite of being a topper, I was unable to get through any interview after trying for almost 5 months. Alongside the campus interviews, I was also applying in different companies. Most of my batch mates were already got placed through campus placement. So, the level of my stress and anxiety was increasing day by day. I wanted to make my parents feel proud of me by fulfilling their expectations. In the process of job hunting, one thing I had realised that getting a job is not as simple as it seems

Finally, on September 1st, this year, I got an interview call from a renowned multinational company based in Delhi. I gathered all my confidence and courage to face that interview. I was ready to focus more on the performance rather than the result. Hence, I was determined to give my best in the interview no matter what. After facing different rounds of interview, I was finally selected for my dream job. To my surprise, the salary offered to me was beyond my expectations. My happiness knew no bounds and tears started rolling down my eyes. I thanked God and my parents for the same.

This event is the happiest and unforgettable moment of my life. It has taught me a lesson for the lifetime that we should never give up and keep trying to achieve our goals in life.

For me, it was the farewell party at school, that opportunitised me with its organization. I was at school in eleventh class and we, the penultimate class was responsible for the farewell party to passing outs. I was assigned by our class teacher to supervise and manage the whole arrangements.

Although, I was a little docile in my schooldays, but as soon as my teacher asked me to undertake the farewell party, I was an instantaneous volunteer. May be the task of responsibility was a driver of my happiness and contention, so I readily prompted. One of my girl classmates was assisting me in this. We had to arrange the snacks and dinner, good music rolls, speech/sitting arrangements, floral/ribbon decorations and mementos to be awarded to final year students. Most of it was arranged from within the school including the food that was catered by our mess people. I prepared the itinerary of events with a proper layout.

This was my maiden attempt at organizing an event. Therefore, I was a little anxious too. My prominent worry was about electric supply disruption as we did not arrange a generator for the party. It was as per the teacher’s discretion. But fortunately, we didn’t meet any such hiccup.

It was a fine learning experience for me. Putting things at a right place at right time is an art of management, that I learnt from it. It boosted my spirits for taking initiatives in life too. IELTS Cue Card #Describe an experience about moving to a new house/school

Sample Answer :

Generally, many people have this break when they need to shift either from their school or home or both, may be. Shift from a place to another has definite psychological implications. Our family too, shifted from our old home to a new place, that was to become our new home. At that time, back in 2006, I was pursuing my first year of graduation. Our home was very old and with the rapid urbanization over the time, it became the centre of a huzzbuzz intersection of crossroads. Now, although the location became costlier in commercial sense, but it was misfit for a peaceful housing ambience. So, my father decided to shift to a new house in an ideal residential society.

I was born and brought up in our old home. All my childhood memories were encapsulated in those boundaries. Therefore, I felt a terrific nostalgic rush inside me while leaving. I could see the moments afloat, in those airs. Although the surroundings were very noisy and crowded but it was difficult to shed that inertia of accustomization. But then, there was that curiosity factor too, anxious to see and live in our new home. My father purchased a brand new home in a serene surroundings. So, along with, the thought of living there was making me curiously happy.

There were major noticeable advantages in our new home. Ample of parking space in front, calm peaceful green surroundings, good parks for the children nearby, school and hospital in proximity and that aromatic smell of fresh paints on the newly built strong walls of our new home were some of the benefits of shifting in the new house.

Needless to say, old memories lingered in our minds for quite some time. But since we retained our past property too, so we could go anytime to see that antiquity. Moreover, we started feeling good in the comforts of our new home. So, overall, it was a nice experience of shifting.

Nostalgic sentimental, lonesome: Old memories evoke a strong nostalgia.
Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 Has shifting process increased over the time? If yes, then state why?

Sample Answer: Yes, shifting from one place to another has increased substantially over the past few years. I think with the rapid urbanization, nucleus centres for work and commerce have developed in a concentrated manner. Due to this, migration has increased which leads to shifting of schools and houses.

Q. 2 Does it take time to get accustomed to new place?

Sample Answer: Although, in this digital era, strict heterogeneity among cultures and lifestyles is disappearing. All the basic amenities and patterned lifestyle is a common thing to be seen everywhere. But, still, there are some initial hesitations and strangeness about a new place which have to be dealt with. For e.g.: it might take some time to freely converse in a different language at a different place.

Q. 3 What are the problems faced by children in shifting school?

Sample Answer: Changing school comes as an abrupt interruption not only in academic cycle but in the overall social conditioning process. School is a major socializing agent. A child who has been gravitated in a particular company of teachers and friends, may find it difficult to assimilate in a different environment. It will take time for him to develop that awareness and friendliness of the new surroundings.

Q. 4 How should one think about the change, in general?

Sample Answer: Change is the basic nature of us and our universe. It cannot be stopped. Therefore, they say ’ Change is the only thing that never changes’. So, one should be willing to embrace the change in a happy manner. Initially, we might feel that change breaks our already established posture or flow but eventually, change is always for good.
