Innovation IELTS band7

SAMPLE ANSWER

Every big invention always touches upon human lives and brings about changes. Be it, personal computers, wheels, electricity, aeroplane, the history is filled with the stories of great inventions. I would like to talk about the printing press. German Johannes Guttenberg invented it in the fifteenth century. The printing press uses a mechanised way of transferring ink to the movable type. This movable type process exponentially increases the speed of printing books.

It ultimately led to the rapid and widespread dissemination of knowledge for the first time in human history. Bible was the first book to be published using the Guttenberg printing press. It was the mass production of Bible, that actually led a lot of interpretations about it. For the first time in history, a scientist could easily convey their inventions, leading to a scientific revolution. Also, the literacy rate in adults increased leading to a more knowledgeable society in large. Students began to learn better and grasp concepts better than others.

Some people believe that it was the printing press that actually led to the industrial revolution, the rise of nationalism and much more! It actually did change the way people lived.

quiet place IELTS Cue Card

SAMPLE ANSWER

I am an extrovert as an individual and usually prefer loud places, with parties or gatherings going on. However, there are certain times when I do like being in quiet. Times when things go out of hand and I am unable to make a correct decision. Or situations where I feel emotionally drained. For these moments, I prefer going on a long walk during the evenings towards the Cantonment area. It is around 100 mts from my place and post that there are trees on both the sides of the road and less of vehicles going up and down from the area in the evenings.

Also, there are guards at almost every 100 mt distance, making it a safe place. In the area, there is a park, where people usually go for jogging and after a long walk I like sitting there. Most of the times I gaze stars from there and help my mind to be out of every thought it has and meditate.

I remember the last time I went there was when I had a huge fight with my best friend. He started questioning my being and it felt bad. There were acquisition and all of a sudden I started questioning all relationships. Things were going bizarre and I went for a long walk in the evening.

IELTS Cue Card: Talk with a stranger

Describe a situation when you had a talk with a stranger.

You should say:

  • who the person was
  • where you met him/her
  • what the conversation was about
  • and explain why you found the conversation exciting.
Sample Answer:

I enjoy meeting new people. Today I’m going to talk about a time when I met a stranger and had an interesting conversation with him.
On weekends I go to Rishikesh for learning yoga.  I normally travel by bus as the buses are quite regular and comfortable. But, on last Sunday, bus drivers were on a one day strike. So, I had to drive in the morning. This time there were many foreigners in the yoga centre. All of us did yoga for about 2 hours. Thereafter, we went to the dining hall for breakfast. Naturally, I started interacting with the person sitting next to me. He was from Scotland and had come to India to complete a 120-hour yoga course. His name was Thomson.
Somehow, the focus of our conversation went to festivals and celebrations in our respective countries. He shared some interesting information about the New Year’s Eve Celebrations in Scotland. It’s called Hogmanay. The origins of this word are unclear but it’s the biggest Scottish celebration.

Many traditions like cleaning the house and singing etc. are observed on this auspicious day. The most important of them is first-footing, where families wait for the first person to visit their homes at midnight. Surprisingly, the first foot must be a man or a boy with dark hair, not a woman. It’s believed that the first foot brings fortune to the family for the New Year.  If you are the first foot, you should carry three things: food, coal and something to drink.

I found this conversation very exciting because I didn’t know anything about Hogmanay. The way we celebrate the New Year is very different from how it is celebrated in Scotland. This conversation gave me a glimpse of the Scottish culture. Altogether, the novelty of this information and his friendliness made it a memorable interaction.

IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Garden / Park

Describe a garden / Park you remember visiting –

  • where it is?
  • what it looks like?
  • what people do there?

explain why you remember it?

Sample Answer:

I remember visiting rock garden in Chandigarh last year, with my family. The garden was so humongous and unique that I still remember it. It is a sculpture garden and is completely built of industrial and home waste and thrown-away items. It was started by Nek Chand, a government official in 1957.

He used to collect the industrial waste and the other city waste and created the sculptures from them. The garden is regarded as a unique place and the perfect symbol of recycling. The layout of the garden is that of a lost kingdom. The moment one enters the garden, the small entrance doors which make the head bow, not only creative an ambience of royal but also impart humbleness. One has to pass through a verity of doorways, archways, vestibules, streets and lanes of different scales and dimensions, each one opening into a new array of display or courtyards and chambers lending an air of suspense and curiosity at every corner, at every turn.

An open air theatre and a vast pavilion with a center stage are the other highlights of the rock Garden where art and culture blend amidst rustic and exotic environs of the garden.

Most people go there to visit and see it, it is rather a tourist spot and lots of people come on daily basis.

I remember looking at the garden and being awed by the beauty the garden is made of.No one can say that it is made of waste because they have been put to so great use. It is definitely something everyone must visit during their life time.
