Describe a life lesson that you learnt from someone special.

  • who is that person
  • what did they teach you
  • how did they teach you

also, explain, did you tell it to someone else as well.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Life is beautiful. This is something I can say now, but a few years back, I really could not make sense out of my life and was troubled by the smallest of changes. Back then, I worked at a software company and apart from work, made few friends here and there. Out of all of those comrades that I made and the friends that I bonded over, I met a person who taught me the importance of relationships.

She was a good friend of mine and until meeting her I thought relations are facard and everyone is busy with their lives. It was she who told me that no matter how people behave with us it is very important that we showed the love and care. This is the most important thing to have lasting relationships in life. On questioning on why should I be bothered about others, she told me that one must take care of themselves and then of people around.

All of this was not something she spoke off, but what she showed off. There were times when people left her, but the ones that stayed were amazing and her life is so much more beautiful because she has people to share it with!

I have not been able to imbibe it very well in my life, so possibly, not got the chance to share with others. But obviously, in the little actions that I do, if someone understands it, I do thank my friend Anamika.

responsive poster

Describe an interesting neighbour.
You should say:

  • who is the person?
  • how often you see him or her
  • how long you have known this neighbour

also explain, why you consider this person to be interesting.

Notes :

  • boy studying in college
  • mostly in weekends
  • probably one year
  • he does almost everything, right from cooking food to cleaning his room.
  • he is an amazing traveller
  • has a lot of knowledge.
Sample Answer:

It was a year back when I shifted to Bhubaneswar and started living in an apartment. Initially, no one lived in my neighbourhood until one day when a stout boy came there with just a bag. For few days, I thought there would be something more that he will bring along with him, but there was absolutely nothing. Just a few books, probably his documents and there was he. Later I realised he was a student at a nearby college and was doing his bachelor’s there.

We met over a confusion of a Mc Donald’s delivery boy and landed up eating the pizza together.  I remember us talking about space and then novels and games and had lots of fun! Then he told me about how great cook he is and we meet up almost every weekend!

Sometimes we go travelling, the other times to a book fair. The reason I find this person so interesting is that he is so intelligent yet so warm and then so freaky all at once.  You can never get hang of what is going on in his mind.

WORD MEANING

neighbourhood

a district or community within a town or city.

stout

  • what was talked about

Also, explain why you found it interesting and educating.

SAMPLE ANSWER

I have recently joined the Toastmasters community and it is all about public speaking and leadership. Last Friday, I attended a meeting held in my office. It was a district level conference and people from all of the communities in the district came to attend it. Like in all meetings, there were two main speakers and lot of table topics. But the one thing that made the meeting different from others was the quality of the speakers.

There were two main speakers. The first speaker explained how in the latest of times we have philosophized life to an extent that we have stopped living. It was a humorous speech and in the end the message was clear, life is about doing what you love and letting everything else pass by. The second speaker talked about dreams. How dreams have been the driving force for so many eras and the beautiful concept of understanding the present circumstances through dreams.

I really loved the speakers and the way they presented their thoughts. There was drama in the speech and one could visualize the words of the speakers making it impactful.

Sample Answer

A healthy lifestyle is an important factor in keeping a body healthy. It is highly necessary to maintain a proper routine in order to keep your body healthy. There are different ailments one can suffer from due to various reasons, such as cold, flu, nausea, and many more. I also fell ill at the start of this winter season, during last December.

I have recently shifted to Dehradun and this was my first winter season spent here. As I had shifted from another city and did not take heed of the weather change. Moreover, I ate a lot of cold foods and beverages and roamed around the city in the cold winds without wearing warm clothes. Due to these negligent practices, I caught cold and a high fever with severe body ache.

I was very tired that day due to lack of sleep. I was coughing, sneezing, and had a running nose. It was a very bad experience and it taught me a lot. With a lot of difficulty, I got ready and went to a doctor. The doctor advised me medicines and gave me strict instructions to follow regarding my routine and things to take care of during extremely cold weather. During my bed-rest, I had to take leaves from office, resulting in a disrupted routine, and loss of pay. My work and social life suffered equally, and I learned a lesson to maintain a proper routine and to take care of my health in order to prevent any future illnesses.
