IELTS Speaking 2017 Questions # Watches

The world has advanced and every gadget that we used earlier has now come to fit in our pockets. From watch to the media players, camera, and almost everything. This time we are looking at one such gadget which used to part of our daily lives and how to people use it now.

Did you wear a watch when you were a child?

I don’t clearly remember wearing a watch while growing up on daily basis. However, whenever those fancy watches used to come around, I have always tried them. Sadly they did not work out for a long time, but it was always fun to have them. But, as I reached by Intermediate College I did start wearing watches on a regular basis.

Do you think children should wear a watch? Why/Why not?

In my opinion, a child should wear a watch because it teaches the importance of time. Since it is ticking almost everytime on your hand, one subconsciously becomes aware of time passing by and understands the importance of it.

Can you think of one reason why some people like to wear expensive watches?

One of the main reason could be that they themselves are rich, so surely one would like to go for expensive things in their bucket! Most of the people do it as a reward for achieving something… There are many who take them in a traditional way. So, a watch is something that passes on to generations. Having an expensive one adds on to it. Even some people go for the handmade watches. Well, few do it to save the handcraft others do it because it is more personalised and so more close to heart.

How do you travel from your home to work? How long does the journey normally takes?

I am a pedestrian so I commute by walking from home to work. Well, it is also because my office is very close to my house so using anything else does not make sense. Mostly I go with my friend to the office and the journey is all about talking things here and there.

What do you usually do while travelling?

I love taking pictures so whenever I travel, I am mostly taking pictures and listening to music. If it is a road trip to a place I prefer collecting the local stuff that symbolises the importance of the place.

Complaint From Neighbors # Letter For IELTS

You should spend 20 minutes on this task.

You have recently received a complaint from neighbors about the noise from your flat.

Write a letter to your neighbors to apologize for the inconvenience and also explain the reason for noise. Describe what action you will take.

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Arushi,

Hope you are doing great. I am surprised to hear from you that you are immensely annoyed by the sound coming from my flat.

I thought that the noise will not reach your flat, but I now realize that it has irritated you and I apologize for the problem. Recently, a tap got burst somewhere inside the wall of my house and it has caused dampness in my cupboards, leading to a pungent smell in the house. Not only this, the clothes in the cupboard have got fungus stuck in them.

The authorities have already  been contacted and they have fixed the pipe but it was requested that I keep the windows of the house open for at least five days. Although I tried my best efforts to cause you no inconvenience, but it has been caused. However, I promise there won’t be any noise from today.

Once again, I’m extremely sorry for any inconvenience that I might have caused you.

Yours sincerely,

Anmol.

IELTS Speaking 2017 Questions # Books

Last time we looked at a cue card that talked about a book that inspired you. The book that you would like to read again. Click on the link below for the cue card question:

Favourite Book Cue Card

This time we are looking at the part III questions related to the cue card.

What can we learn from the literature: especially classics?

Books always have so much to offer to its readers that it truly becomes a part of our lives. It could be fiction, non-fiction or autobiographies. But, literature is the one part of reading that surely takes readers to a new level of understanding and shows dimensions like never before. Classics in many ways showcase the happenings of the time when they were written. People who do read classics are able to understand better the problems of people in past and make so much more sense in the present. I remember reading Godan by Premchand. The classic is about the people living in the village during the post-independence era and showcases the emotional and financial issues faced by the common people. It made me understand the difficulties the villagers in my country do face.

What has changed in terms of reading over the past few decades?

Reading has always been an integral part of our lives since ages. There have been struggles by women to read and write but I believe things have changed when compared with the past. Reading has now become the mainstream hobby that people do propaganda about.  People did read books and newspaper earlier as well, but in today’s time, they have gained importance like never before. Someone who reads novels is given importance and respect and is treated more of intellectual.

Do you think people read less or more nowadays?
People have surely become more inclined towards reading in present times when compared with the past. With the importance of reading being highlighted in recent times, many youngsters have started reading novels and newspaper. Even more, with the high pace with which digitalisation is happening, one need not to always read books to gain knowledge. With google and facebook, most people read news and articles online. There are ebooks available and with competition increasing, surely things have changed.
What do you think is the difference between reading novels and watching movies?
Novels and movies are two different ways of depicting the same facts, in my opinion. There are some people who have a major impact when they read something, while for others to grasp a concept it is important to visualise it. Novels are more of the detailed version of everything, one has to read it to understand it. With movies, the lot of things can happen in the background. For example, in movies, you need not say that the person is sad, a background music and tears can help. With novels, it’s all about words and the writes them off!
