IELTS Speaking Part I Sample # Housework

IELTS speaking section questions and answers about Housework

Question 1: Do you do housework at home?
Answer A: Yes, I always help my parents with the household chores and other routine work. I actually consider it as a part of my vital responsibilities.
Answer B: No, I usually don’t get time to participate in housework as I’m quite busy with my work.

Question 2: What kind of household work do you often do?
Answer: I generally help with laying the table, washing the car and buying grocery. Additionally, I also drop and pick my younger sister from school while helping her with her studies. Also, sometimes when a lot of guests came in together, we would help our mother in hosting the guests.

Question 3: Did you do household work when you were a child?
Answer: Not really. I didn’t do any housework in childhood except taking care of my younger sister when my mother was busy with cooking or other household chores.

Question 4: Do you think that children should do housework?
Answer: Well, housework should not be a part of any child’s routine but helping the family once in a while is fine. Parents may involve kids in petty tasks such as taking care of the younger siblings, watering plants, laying table or washing the car.

Question 5: Do you like doing housework?

Answer: Housework is something I do not do out of love for the work but for my family members. It is a way of showing to them that I am responsible as well for matters of family. More are the number of people helping towards housework, less is the burden on a single individual. I sometimes help with mopping the floor or cleaning the bathroom with my family.

Question 6: How do you think housework could be made more interesting?

Answer: The best way to make housework interesting would be to involve a lot of members. If only a certain set of people always do the work, it creates a lot of irritation or dissatisfaction among individuals. Making housework as a chore that everyone does for the place they live in, will make it more interesting and strengthen the bond among family members.

Question 7: Do you think children should do some household work?

Answer: Going by my opinion, I would say definitely yes. If not the serious work like the chores of cleaning and dusting, children can always help with certain things. For example, cleaning their own room or a part of it. They may help with making the bed or cleaning the refrigerator. A child need not do it entirely but he or she can always help.

Question 8: In the future, do you think machines will replace humans in doing household work?

Answer: We are moving towards automation and the IT industry has surely seen a setback with it. Machines will definitely become part of our lives in future and would seep in our daily routine. At present we do find machines like vacuum cleaner helping us with work, with time, I believe there will be many more devices to make our work simpler.

The mundane routine of my work life called for the holiday to Darjeeling and so I packed my bag and informed you so hastily. Moreover, Darjeeling is one of the best places I have ever been to and you surely live in heaven. The amazing sun rise at Tiger Hill, the bonfire at your place and toy train ride that we had together was remarkable.

IELTS General Writing # Complaint Letter to Sports Centre Manager

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You are not satisfied with the changing rooms in a sports centre that you visit. Write a letter to the manager:
– What the problem is
– How you feel about the problem
– What steps you want the manager to take
Write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:

Sample Answer

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the facilities provided by your sports center located at the MG Road. It has been two years since I and my husband joined this center. We both attend the aerobics classes in the morning and do swimming in the evening.

I want to bring into your notice that the changing rooms in the pool section are not being maintained properly. Firstly, the towels are soiled and even damp sometimes. Secondly, there is a foul smell in the rooms most of the time. It seems as if the area is not cleaned thoroughly and no room freshener is used. We talked with the facilitator before writing to you but the issue was ignored rather than being resolved. Such a response has disappointed us as it is a basic hygiene issue which should have been taken care of immediately after the first complaint.
I would like you to ensure that clean towels are supplied after every swimming session and rooms are cleaned regularly. If the problem of foul smell can also be tackled by installing ventilators, we would be grateful to you.

I look forward to receiving a prompt response.

Yours faithfully
Anju Rawat
