Cue Card: Describe a language you have learned

Describe a language you have learned.

You should say:
● What is it?
● Why did you decide to learn that language?
● When did you start learning it?
● What was difficult about it?

And explain how you learn it.

Answer – Learning languages has always been a great passion of mine, so in pursuit of this interest, I took up German. I started learning this language in December 2025 not only as a hobby but also because I want to pursue my master’s degree in Germany, which is a beautiful country known for its quality education system and rich culture.

At the beginning, learning German was a struggle for me. Since I had no background in that language, I had to start from scratch. The grammar rules, sentence structure, and pronunciation were really tricky to comprehend. Most of the time I felt confused because German words are very different from English as well as my native language, and memorising the vocabulary was a bit of a challenge.

Despite all these obstacles, I did not give up because I was so determined to achieve my goal. To improve my German, I followed some effective strategies. For instance, I revised new vocabulary every single day; I even pasted small post-it notes on the walls above my study desk. This really helped me remember most of the common vocabulary. The most interesting part of learning that language was translating everyday objects into German. Another useful habit was writing my daily routine in German, which improved my writing skills as I was able to frame the sentences.
With consistent practice and dedication, I successfully completed my A1 level in German. This achievement gave me confidence and encouraged me to continue learning the language further. I look forward to completing the A2 level soon.
