IELTS Cue Card Sample Answer # Polite Person

A polite person is someone who treats everyone with respect. No matter how rudely we sometimes behave, we always enjoy the company of a polite person. A polite person often not only lifts the mood of the person sitting next to them but also changes the dignity of the whole place around them. This time we are looking at a cue card that talks about a polite person we have in our family.

Describe a polite person you know. You should say –

  • who is the person?
  • how do you know him or her?
  • why do you think he or she is a polite person

SAMPLE ANSWER 1
Today I am going to talk about a former colleague of mine, his name is Adrien Agreste.
To this day, I have not found a more agreeable, sincere and sweet person.
Adrian really was the epitome of politeness. He always followed the general rules of politeness like holding open doors and saying “bless you” after a sneeze. To my surprise, I never found found him pushing people for anything. Judging people was not at all a part of his personality.  He was very caring and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
When I had just joined the office, he had introduced himself along with all of my other new co-workers. He had shown me around and been a huge help in getting me settled into the new environment. During office meetings he listened to everyone and asked for more input genuinely making everyone feel involved respected and valued. It is true he was awkward sometimes and liked to apologize a little too much but that was just a part of who he was. I cannot think of a more charming person.
SAMPLE ANSWER 2

Politeness has been one of the traits I have always admired in people. It shows to me the fact that in the end, we all are best when we behave as humans. Although there have been many I have encountered, I found my mother the most polite person I know. She is one of the most soft-spoken people in our entire family. Not only does she respects people she knows, but she is respectful to everyone who interacts with her.

Recently, a beggar was roaming around in our colony asking for either food or money and while everyone disrespectfully asked the person to move, my mother not only gave him respect but also food and money. On asking her why she did that, she replied that “everyone deserves to be treated respectfully, irrespective of their position, behavior or clothing.”

My mother has always tried instilling these qualities in both of her kids, although we are not as kind as her, we try to follow her teaching of respecting every individual.

SAMPLE ANSWER 3 (Writer: Bhumika)

Being polite and respectful to others is a good quality and makes us a
good person. Today I would like to talk about someone I know who is
very polite. She is a helper at my college. Her name is Kamla. Kamla
aunty is in her late thirties. She is a stout woman with long hairs
and wears salwar kameez. She works as a helping staff at my college
since last ten years. I know her since I joined my college. In fact
everyone in the college knows her and respect her, and calls her Kamla
didi.
Kamala didi is very helpful, I have seen her that many times she goes
out of the ways to help others which is the reason why everyone at
college loves her. She is always ready to help others be it anything.
I remember once when I had gone to the college and I was not well. I
had a heavy bag of books with me and my classroom was on the fourth
floor. Kamla aunty sensed that, I was unwell that day and helped me
reach to the fourth floor and also carried my heavy bag herself. She
keeps helping others be it in a big or small way.
However, there are some higher authorities in our college who are ill
tempered but Kamla didi always respects them and obeys whatever they
say. Not only that, she is a very helpful colleagues. She always helps
them and sometimes does their work also.
I think she is a perfect role model for us. She never shows that she
has done anyone a favour. She teaches us how to be polite and help
others selflessly.

  • what the plan is
  • how long have you been making it
  • why it did not work
  • and explain when you think you can get it done.
SAMPLE ANSWER

Travelling has been one of the things I have on my to-do list for a long time. Visiting new places and meeting people is what gives me a kick and I wish to do it. Living in a northeastern state of my country, there are many things I can explore and have on my list.

A few years back, I hitch-hiked to a place near Bhubaneswar, Puri. Although the trip was amazing, I felt it could have been better in the company of my loved ones. Since then, I have been trying to convince my friends to travel along with me to places like Kolkata, Vishakapatnam. But, we all are failing in keeping up with the exciting plans that we make. Sometimes because of work pressure, other times because of priority differences.

I remember having extended the plan of going to Kolkata for now around 6 months. But, with the coming of new year, the resolution is to make sure that I travel more with my friends and sometimes make new friends along the journey.

Recently, I visited a travel website, make my trip, that allows people from different places to come together and enjoy new places. On telling this plan to my friends, some of them have agreed on to it. And, we are hoping to travel the east of India in the next 6 months this year.

IELTS Cue Card # Dream House

We all want to live in a kind of house that motivates us to be something and do something. The kind of house that we enter and feel like home and where we can relax. Now, everyone has their own idea of a dream house. Let us today have a look at some of the possible answers related to a cue card about dream house.

Describe a house or apartment you want to live in.

You should say:

  • What it would look like?
  • Where it would be located?
  • What facilities it would have?

and explain why you want to live there.

Sample Answer One

Home is where the heart is. We all have dreams and things we want from our lives. It’s ok to be materialistic in life and there is no harm in having some luxuries. I was born and raised up in a valley surrounded by hills so I’d like my dream house to be ideally located somewhere in between the hills. The location of the house will be a semi urban area as there are certain places in the hills that are secluded and there are no facilities available for miles. I’d like my dream home to be located in Mussoorie, a small hill station resting on the foothills of the Himalayas in northern India.
The house will be a medium sized bungalow with two floors, a front and a back garden and have all the modern day amenities. The building will be designed as such that all the windows of the bungalow will overlook the Doon valley. The architecture will be of Victorian era as it will give a very colonial look to the place. The ground floor will have a big common room adjoining a modular kitchen and a bar which will have spirits from different parts of the earth. The climate is cold so all the windows of the bungalow will be double glazed to provide insulation and protect us in the harsh cold weather. The upper floor will have a big master bedroom along with two other guest bedrooms.
As I live in the city, so I’ll use this house as a holiday home and to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Located in nature’s lap it will be a perfect relaxation spot and a perfect holiday. Once in my latter years of life, I’d like to retire there and live a calm and peaceful life in a serene environment.

dream house

Sample Answer Two

We all as humans dream fancy about our houses. So, there are some who want all the luxuries in their house while some prefer living close to nature. I want my house to be a mimic of nature. So, I want a small waterfall in my house wherein I can take bath and then I want my house to have lot of flowers and be surrounded by trees. So, that in the evening when I wish to sit down, I should feel calm and serene from inside.

Then, I want my house to have a library as well. Library of the books that I have already read, so it will be more like a collection of books that I love and could offer others to read and in the library there will be my study table and in one corner will be the place where I could look out of window and see the entire nature at its best and have some thing to drink or relax. There will be part of my house, where I will allow anyone to come in and sleep over and have food just for free. Because, I want people to travel and travel with entire safety. With nothing to worry, I want them to explore this beautiful world.
Also, in my house I wish to have a beautiful field wherein I could go for jogging or play some games. I don’t wish for the most expensive house in the world but I wish for the house that is the most special for me.

Sample Answer Three

Everyone has lot of dreams about their house. I too have. I wish my house to be a duplex building with spacious rooms and corridors. It is very important for me to be able to move freely and I wish to have ample space even after placing the furniture. The house should be well ventilated and the view from outside the window should be of something close to nature. I would love to have a balcony in my house with my bedroom facing the south side from where I could smell the fragrance from the garden. At the night times, I will place a chair on the balcony to enjoy the night views, especially the moonlit nights.

Although I like natural places, but for my house I would like it to be in the middle. So, somewhere where it is not very far from the city neither too close to the town. It should have the feel of a city life with no troubles that it brings along with it, like lot of traffic and noise pollution. Even more, the house should have all the modern amenities. It should have a telephone connection with which I can connect with the entire world and then there should be Internet.

Also, I need a garage wherein I can keep my car and the roof of the house should also be large as I intend to plant some small plants on the rooftop garden. Even more, it is very important to have good quality fittings, tiles and necessary elements in the kitchen and bathrooms.

Ultimately, I want to live in a big house wherein I can have a feeling of a house and can roam about freely because that is very important.

Speaking CUE CARD – Describe a time when you borrowed something from someone

Describe a time when you borrowed something from someone.

  • What did you borrow?
  • How did it help you?
  • What lesson, if any, did you learn from your experience?

Describe a time when you borrowed something from someone. What did you borrow? How did it help you? What lesson, if any, did you learn from your experience?

Oh! I remember a time when I was appearing in my final exams in class twelfth. I was taking an exam and suddenly I ran out of ink. A day prior, I had planned to buy a new pen, but then it slipped out of my mind, and I forgot to buy it. Making things worse, Mr. Cloyd was our invigilator that day. He was one of the most feared teachers in our school. He was known for his discipline and his strict demeanor. He was certainly not the kind of person you would go to for help. I hesitantly asked him if I could borrow a pen from someone. Contrary to my expectations, he pulled out a pen out of his pocket and gave it to me. On top of that, there was a smile on his face. An hour later when I went to return it to his office he asked me to keep the pen and wished me good luck for my future.

I don’t know what got into him that day, but his kind gesture really left me stunned. I had always thought of him as someone to be the last person who would provide any kind of help but there he was, helping me in my time of need. We humans tend to make our opinions very quickly. We have this propensity of judging people, even before we know them well. I learnt from this experience that it’s always better to avoid having any preconceived notions about people, and to really make judgments about them only after we know them well. (294 words)
