I believe learning new skills adds value to our personality and makes us versatile. It is extremely important to enrich oneself with new skills. Therefore I recently learned cooking, which is one the basic life skills that an individual must possess.
One Sunday afternoon, my mother was cooking Honey chilli potato and I asked her to teach me how to cook, that was the first time I cooked along with her. Cooking that day was so fun that I grew interest in it. I also started watching a lot of YouTube tutorials on cooking. Initially, I understood the basics of cooking and gradually started from simple recipes. As practice makes a man perfect. Now, I can say that I’m a wonderful chef and I can make several mouth watering delicacies.

In today’s era it is very easy to teach cooking. I believe cooking is one such skill that everyone must know. In fact I’m planning to start a YouTube channel where I can teach others how to cook. Apart from that my mother has also suggested me to give cooking lessons at home and I would like to give it a second thought. I will prepare a kitchen studio where I can teach online as well as offline.

On the whole, I feel learning to cook has made my life easier. I don’t have to depend on anyone for my meals, now I can cook my own food. It has also made me health conscious as now I’ve a good knowledge about nutrition.
I’m extremely happy to learn this new skill. Whenever I’m bored at home, I try to create some new dishes every time. It’s a fun activity for me which helps me relieve the stress. Specially on weekends I make food for the whole family and we enjoy our meals together and make memories.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Travelling has been one of the things I have on my to-do list for a long time. Visiting new places and meeting people is what gives me a kick and I wish to do it. Living in a northeastern state of my country, there are many things I can explore and have on my list.

A few years back, I hitch-hiked to a place near Bhubaneswar, Puri. Although the trip was amazing, I felt it could have been better in the company of my loved ones. Since then, I have been trying to convince my friends to travel along with me to places like Kolkata, Vishakapatnam. But, we all are failing in keeping up with the exciting plans that we make. Sometimes because of work pressure, other times because of priority differences.

I remember having extended the plan of going to Kolkata for now around 6 months. But, with the coming of new year, the resolution is to make sure that I travel more with my friends and sometimes make new friends along the journey.

Recently, I visited a travel website, make my trip, that allows people from different places to come together and enjoy new places. On telling this plan to my friends, some of them have agreed on to it. And, we are hoping to travel the east of India in the next 6 months this year.

Describe a time when you borrowed something from someone. What did you borrow? How did it help you? What lesson, if any, did you learn from your experience?

Oh! I remember a time when I was appearing in my final exams in class twelfth. I was taking an exam and suddenly I ran out of ink. A day prior, I had planned to buy a new pen, but then it slipped out of my mind, and I forgot to buy it. Making things worse, Mr. Cloyd was our invigilator that day. He was one of the most feared teachers in our school. He was known for his discipline and his strict demeanor. He was certainly not the kind of person you would go to for help. I hesitantly asked him if I could borrow a pen from someone. Contrary to my expectations, he pulled out a pen out of his pocket and gave it to me. On top of that, there was a smile on his face. An hour later when I went to return it to his office he asked me to keep the pen and wished me good luck for my future.

I don’t know what got into him that day, but his kind gesture really left me stunned. I had always thought of him as someone to be the last person who would provide any kind of help but there he was, helping me in my time of need. We humans tend to make our opinions very quickly. We have this propensity of judging people, even before we know them well. I learnt from this experience that it’s always better to avoid having any preconceived notions about people, and to really make judgments about them only after we know them well. (294 words)

Leisure activity with your family, How often do you do it? What do you usually do? Who do you do it with most of the time? Would you like to do more of it?

Sample Answer

I left home when I was seventeen and have never lived there full time since. My mother got sick last month and was admitted to a hospital. She was discharged three days later. I went to see her, but since I was very busy at the time, I couldn’t stay with her much longer.

I felt the guilt and asked my employer if I could get an entire week off to spend some quality time with my parents and help my mother recover. My leaves were sanctioned and I visited my parents with my wife. Since it was a surprise, they got shocked and my mother started crying. I took them out for dinner, and upon returning, made them a nice cup of tea, just as they like. My father is a big fan of Sean Connery, so I hired a DVD starring him. We didn’t go to the cinema as the doctors had advised my mother not to stress herself out.

Though it was nothing fancy what we did, but my parents and I had a really great time together. I have only one sister and as she works abroad, it’s very hard for me to spend some leisure time with her. It’s only my parents then who I would like to visit every month and have a great time with.
