However, for some people, it is a part of their daily routine while others do it only if they have a spare time for it. Jogging and brisk walking are popularly followed by people interested in fitness. Moreover, walking is also one of the best stress busters as it helps in reducing anxiety and fatigue as well. This time we are looking at some of the questions related to walking that can be asked in IELTS Speaking.

IELTS Speaking Part I Sample Questions # Walk

Question 1: Do you like to walk?
Answer:  I like taking long walks with my friends and sometimes alone as well. Apart from the many health benefits that it has, walking helps me to relax and spend quality time with my people. Also, it saves fuel expenses.

Question 2: Do you like to walk on your own or with others?
Answer: I usually prefer walking alone as it allows me to manage my own pace. I find it as an excellent way of keeping my body fit and also reducing the mental stress. However, I do go for walks with my family members or friends sometimes, especially to spend quality time with them.

Question 3: Would you say that your city is a good place for walking?
Answer A: Yes certainly, my city has many well-maintained parks, public lawns and pedestrian paths which make it ideal for walking.

Answer B: Not really. I live in a metropolitan city so there are very few places to walk. Nearby parks are the most popular places for walking, exercising or practising yoga/meditation.

Question 3: Do people in your country walk a lot?
Answer: Well, people residing in cities really don’t walk too much as they usually travel long distances in routine. However, the ones living in countryside walk a lot within their vicinity. The city residents consider walking as a fitness medium and prefer early morning walks.

Question 4: Do you think walking is important?
Answer: Yes, I think walking is the best and the simplest way to stay fit in today’s busy life. People hardly have time to exercise and on top of that most of the jobs are limited to the desk. Hence regular walking is indeed very important.

Question 5: Do you think walking in the countryside is better than walking in the city?
Answer: Yes, walking in the countryside is definitely better than walking in the city. The greenery and fresh air that you can enjoy in the countryside is scarce in the crowded cities. Plus, rural areas are more peaceful and pollution-free which makes them perfect for long walks.

Question 6: What could be done to improve the experience of walking in cities?
Answer: Actually a lot can be done to improve the walking experience in the cities like planting more trees, constructing parks and separate lanes for walkers all across. Moreover, there could be special walking zones with no vehicles allowed during some hours of the day.

IELTS Speaking Sample Questions # Ideal House

SAMPLE ANSWER

I currently live in an apartment with two rooms and a kitchen and although I like my house, I would love to move into a cottage in the near time. The idea of living in a cottage in the countryside, truly makes me feel excited about life. The cool breeze, the no traffic, the less stress and the beauty around to savor.

Being brought up in different parts of the country and having lived in Dehradun for around 6 years, it is in the hills that I find my solace. So, my cottage will definitely be in either Almora or the hills of Mussoorie. It will be a cottage with two floors. On the ground floor will be three rooms, where I will be living with my family and on the first floor, I would love to have two rooms. One of them will be a study room and the other will be a library.

I would love to decorate it with all the things that I have collected over a period of time traveling across the country. There are some paintings and then some of them are the collages of different pictures collected, some are memories of people I met. I want my cottage to have all of the memories of people I have met in my life. I want to share my life with my husband and my parents. It would be great fun for all of our families to live together in a beautiful house and make our own living.

House is the most important part of our lives and having the house of my dreams along with the people I love the most, that will definitely be life for me.

PART 3
What kind of home do most people in your country live in?

Our country has a diverse section of people living across, from different geographical backgrounds, people all over the country live in different kinds of home. People living in urban areas tend to live in apartments, while those living in rural areas, can either live in cottages or semi-detached house or a terraced house.

Do you think moving to a new home can bring problems to people?

Shifting is always a problem and involves a lot of things that need to be taken care of. But, if they are not taken care of properly, they tend to cause issues like management and adjustments. Some people face issues because they are not able to adjust to their new house. Or the new people around them!

Do you think people in your country like to live with their parents?

Most people in my country love to live with their parents, but then with the new generation and the concept of modernization and westernization creeping in, there are some people who tend to not live with their parents. They want to enjoy their own freedom and become more independent. Our country is seeing this shift, with more and more people moving towards the independent life style, whereas there are many who deep rootedly wish to live with their parents.

Sample Answer

Though, I am not aware of the fundamentals of construction, but I would love to build my dream house. I will be head over heels if I ever get the opportunity to build my own house. It is a place of fervour, amenity, and tenderness that supports us and provides us shelter.

I love peace and solitude. Therefore, I will build my house in the outskirts of the city. I have a dream to own a big and luxurious house with a green lush lawn in the front .The lawn will be decorated by beautiful flowers and trees. A big statue of Buddha will be placed on the main entrance of the house. Consequently it will symbolise serenity and spiritualism prevalent in the house. In addition to that, Interior design of the house will be a mix of both contemporary and modern styles. The drawing room will be spacious to accommodate multiple visitors at a time.

Thereafter, a big modular kitchen will be made on the ground floor whose back door will open in the backyard. Next to the kitchen, I will make a small bar decorated by colourful furniture and  lights. Moreover, I will arrange a separate mini theatre where my friends and family members can enjoy their favourite movies. Bedrooms and library will be upstairs with side glass walls to enjoy the greenery around. To further beautify my house, I will opt for an open green roof with an open dining space.

I want to build and present this house to my parents on their 25th anniversary. My parents brought me into this world and nurtured me in the best possible way. Hence, this dream house will be a small token of love and sentiments,  to pay my debt of gratitude to them.

SAMPLE ANSWER

Street markets are a highly popular phenomenon in a lot of cities around the world. They not only provide a variety of products in different categories but also support the local economy as well. Street markets around the world are set up daily, weekly or monthly!  These markets are standalone events in themselves, and going to shop in them can be a quite wonderful and satisfying experience.

Actually, our locality is one of the main and busiest areas in the city and has one such market too. This market is set up each day, near the main crossroads nearby my place. It is indeed quite large and contains more than a hundred makeshift shops. This market is quite an old one and is being set up every day since the last ten years. The local government setup has helped the people here a lot and has created separate spaces for the shopkeepers. I also go there to purchase a few things every now and then. The first time I went there, I had to buy a few things for my home such as vegetables, fruits, and other routine items.

As soon as I went inside the market area, I found that it was very crowded. People were walking in all directions, hurrying to buy things. With a little difficulty, I found and purchased everything that I needed to buy and then sat down on a bench to relax. It was a hot summer day hence I decided to relax along with a glass of sweet lemonade and some locally made snacks. All the vendors and shopkeepers there are very nice and provide goods at reasonable prices. Although very busy, the market has a very nice atmosphere, and I find it a good experience to go there and buy things.
