Sample Answer

Childhood is a time of blissful experiences for everyone. The dreams are huge and every child tends to find happiness in small things and incidents. Everyone has their own childhood memories and among them, some are pleasant while a few are sad. I also have various childhood memories and I would like to talk about the one related to my first day at school.

I was about 4 years old when I got admission to a local school. This was very exciting as I was fascinated by the new place full of people and large buildings. When my father announced that I would start attending school from the next march, I was elated.

I started imagining what my school and my classes would look like, and how many friends would I make. Finally, the day came and my parents came to drop me off to school. Till that day, I had seen it only from outside, and after taking my first steps into the school campus, I was anxious and felt nervous.

I was unsure of what would follow, and of the things, I was supposed to do. Very soon a teacher came and introduced herself while handing me with my books and stationery. I felt comfortable and went along with her to my assigned classroom. The classroom was huge and airy, with a lot of children occupying the desks. I was introduced to the class and all the children warmed up to me and I found it very easy to settle in with the class. It was an exhilarating experience, but my initial nervousness had died down to make way for happiness and I started to enjoy going to school in no time.

IELTS Cue Card #Describe a resolution you made in new year

Describe a resolution you made in new year.
You should say:

  • What was the resolution and why did you make it?
  • How would you fulfil this resolution?
  • How would you feel after fulfilling it?

And how will you react in case of failure.

IELTS Cue Card #Describe a resolution you made in new year

Sample Answer :

New year arrival is considered to be an auspicious beginning of the good things in our lives. People like to streamline their lives with adoption of productive activities and creative inspirations. On the other hand, they want to get rid of malicious thoughts with a new start on new year eve. Such vows provide an anchor to affix determination needed to accomplish a particular task or behaviour. On this new year, I also made a resolution, which is to achieve a band score greater than 8 in IELTS exam. Last year, I attempted this exam only once and I got a band score of 7. I have the requirement of higher band in order to crash through the best universities abroad. I was lacking in my time devotion and sincere hard work, therefore, I decided to bring corrections by taking this resolution.

To fulfil this resolution, I would be working very hard with a proper result oriented approach. The brilliant techniques elaborated by my teachers would be instrumental in enhancing my approach and methodology of preparation. Study material provided by the institute would be learnt by heart. I shall be focused on my studies and would be devoting extra hours for my study sessions. Moreover, I shall be attending every classroom session this time, which I used to miss previously. Along with that, I would be involving myself in speaking and listening sessions with my friend, informally too. After meticulous efforts and virtuously working upon the feedbacks, provided by teachers for improvement, I am confident of getting a score of band 9.

There are no permanent fulfilments or failures. By fulfilling my resolution, I would feel confident and the sense of accomplishment would sweep me with joy and enthusiasm. But, even in case of failure I won’t be deterred by the disappointment. With my relentless spirit and undying hope, I shall reappear in the exam and will crack it with greater efforts.

Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 When did you make resolution on new year, first time? Why?

Sample answer: I still remember making my first new year resolution when I was in fourth standard. Our class teacher instructed us to take up a fresh resolution on every new year. This helps us to channelize our energies in a manner, so as to achieve our resolved ambition.

Q. 2 Do you personally think that resolutions help us achieve our goals?

Sample answer: Yes, I am an ardent supporter of faith and confidence within oneself. Vows help us in providing a flagpost reference, a motivation, by looking at which, consistently, we can keep ourselves focused and determined in our actions.

Q. 3 Do you think that one possesses regrets, in case of not fulfilling a resolution?

Sample answer: I believe that one should be honest with himself at all the times. Imbibing honesty in all your actions directed towards the resolution fulfilment. By doing that, one can feel confident of putting his best efforts. Despite that, if one meets failure, he should not be dejected with a bag of regrets. He should rather prolong his resolution for the next best attempt.

Q. 4 Do you think resolutions as necessary in any endeavour?

Sample answer: Not at all. I do not consider resolution as the only sufficient measure to achieve goals. With a sense of responsibility and apt maturity, one can affirm and internalize the same degree of sincerity and motivation within him. If one keeps his motivation alive all the time, then one may not cling to the psychological hook of resolution.

Describe an impressive advertisement you remember well.
You should say:

  • When and where you saw it?
  • What was advertised?
  • What were the contents of the advertisements?

and explain why you remember it well.

IELTS CUE CARD # DESCRIBE AN IMPRESSIVE ADVERTISEMENT YOU REMEMBER WELL. Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

SAMPLE ANSWER-

There are several advertisements we come across while watching television or surfing the internet.. I used to either find advertisement monotonous due to which I didn’t paid much attention to them. Lately, while watching videos on YouTube, a Vicks advertisement grabbed my attention. It was a short story about a transgender woman activist and her adopted daughter.

Vicks is a P&G owned cold and cough brand, which broadcasted a short story on ‘Touch of Care’. The advertisement gave a strong message on adoption and transgender rights. The video commences with a daughter and her transgender mother on their way to the boarding school, recounting all the memories that they’ve cherished together so far. Though her mother wanted her to become a doctor, her daughter reveals her ambition of becoming a lawyer.

The contents of this short digital film were mainly about a close connection between a daughter and mother even though the society opposed to this pure relationship. Gayatri, the adopted daughter wanted to become a lawyer and fight against the unfair legal treatment to transgender in India. The orphan girl innocently questions the society about why her mother is denied fundamental rights if everyone gets this privilege. This question by a naïve child is an eye-opener for the society we live in.

I cannot forget about this particular advertisement mainly because of the stigma shown in it. Even after the Supreme Court passed a law for the transgender, these people continue to face bias and humiliation in the Indian society. In the advertisement which lasted for nearly two minutes, the campaign was successful enough to deliver a powerful moral.

IELTS Cue Card #Describe a person you follow on social media

Sample Answer :

Nowadays, social media is a ubiquitous phenomenon. Accessibility and affordability of Internet connection with apposite phones and other devices has spurted the digital ecosystem, overall. Netizens generally have tendency to associate in like-minded forums or groups. I have this hobby of reading psychological blogs from different authors. One day while surfing on the net, I came across a very interesting extract about crime psychology. It was exposing some of the primitive basic instincts responsible for inducement of criminal tendencies. For e.g.: Crime in many cases originate from overwhelming love for someone, which altogether, sounds like a paradox. I read the name of the author, which was E. Heisenberg. From that day onwards, I made it a point to follow his thread.

As I mentioned a while ago, Heisenberg publishes psychology articles, most of them related to crime psychology and mental distortions. He has a compilation of short stories too. The posts inform you about various conflicting tendencies in our subconscious mind which ultimately give rise to mental disorders. He can be called as quasi Freudian, but he supplements the text with his own insights and evidences.

First of all, I would like to mention that he is an honourable faculty in prestigious Harvard university, as a Professor of Psychology. Extensive research and several thesis formulations, that he had undertaken in the last few years are simply impressive. His objectivity, accuracy and verifiability of his experimental research makes him truly exceptional. He has that acumen of observing the silent depths of the discipline.

For people like Heisenberg, fame is an irrelevant and unwarranted award. They remain focused on their work only. But, yes, otherwise he is admired by not just intelligentsia but receives adulations from the common man too, who finds his short stories meaningful to read.

Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 What are the main benefits of social media?

Sample answer: Social media is a digital platform, where information can be disseminated to millions of active users. Current affairs, editorials, texts, posts, mails, discussions and so many other streams of information are available on social media. Therefore, it’s a good source of knowledge. Apart from that, movies, theatre, reality programmes, songs and many such things make it an ideal junction for entertainment too. One feels democratic in freely expressing his views on social media regarding any topic or issue.

Q. 2 What are the harmful effects of social media?

Sample answer: The tendency of addiction, to access the social media throughout the day and night, is commonplace nowadays. This harms our neck, spine, eyes and overall sitting posture, when we immerse in social media continuously for hours. This is a serious implication for youngsters and children. Similarly, it distorts the sense of reality and our feelings and emotions take a virtual mode. It is very common to see nowadays, members in one home, one family devote most of their time bugged in their mobiles rather than having a joyous or serious discussion with others. This actually breeds separation in long run.

Q. 3 What are the evident changes in children after incursion of social media?

Sample answer: Most notabely, Social media has played the role of a distractor in children’s lives. Today, most of the children spend their quality time engrossed in mobile games or some other indoor fun sticks. Outdoor community games are shrinking. This hampers their physical growth and socialization. They also turn less focused on academics because of social media. Creativity and hard work is minimum when they can copy, paste their homework from social media.

Q. 4 Do you feel social media should be restricted?

Sample answer: Not at all, I have mentioned the benefits too along with the shortcomings. I just want to say that parents should regulate their children well, so they are minimally exposed to social media at a young age, as it has no direct applications for that age. Even the adults should avoid its uninterrupted access and should use it in a balanced manner.
