You should say:

  • Where it was?
  • What it was like?
  • What did you learn there and explain how you felt  about it?
SAMPLE ANSWER

When we talk about childhood, the first memories that we can recall are of our good times spent in school. I studied in Convent of Jesus & Mary, Dehradun. It is one of the most prestigious and oldest schools in Dehradun. Even though many years have passed since I left school, I vividly remember the impressive layout and architecture of my school.

There was a huge church at the entrance. After the church, there was a beautiful garden on one side and the rows of colourful seasonal flowers gave a warm welcome. All the students walked along this floral path towards the main building. A sense of calm pervaded over me when I stepped into the school every morning and walked down towards the main building.

The junior and senior sections had dedicated buildings. A vast playground separated the two wings. The playground was fully equipped with swings, monkey bars and sea-saws. Swings were my favourite. It was a routine for me to reach early so that I could play on the swings for few minutes before going to my class.

All the teachers in my school were very loving and caring. Throughout my schooling we were taught how to lead a disciplined life. The focus was on all round development and the teachers encouraged the students to participate in a range of extracurricular activities, from dramatics, dancing, singing to sports. The personality of every student was nurtured with utmost responsibility.

I consider myself fortunate to attend this school. Whatever I have achieved today the credit for it goes to the dedication of my school teachers.

IELTS Cue Card: Describe a television programme that you watch

Describe a television programme that you watch.

You should say:

  • What kind of television programme it is?
  • What usually happens in the television programme?
  • Why you enjoy watching the television programme?

And explain why you would recommend the television programme to the other people.

Sample Answer:

I don’t watch TV so often but whenever I find a chance I always try and watch a show called “Kings of Restoration”. It is featured on the History Channel. It is a great show for anyone who has an interest in art and creativity.

The show starts with the announcement of the product received recently for restoration. Rick Dale, the owner and the host along with his team explores the product and tells about its current condition and what ideas they have for fixing it.  They get a variety of products from old broken vending machines to automobiles. The whole team works hands in hands to get the original raw parts and prepare the required designs. The show telecasts the way they work on each of the old part.

I love watching this show for a number of reasons. I used to team up with my dad as a child and watch the whole series with uttermost fascination. So, this show holds memories with my dad. As both of us have a deep profound interest in machines and tools, we would often talk over our own suggestions and ideas while watching it.

This TV programme has also helped me come up with a lot of creative solutions for my old goods and helped me restore many items that weren’t in use. The best part about the show is always the ending scene when they finally give away the restored product to the owner. It leaves everyone of us including the customer enthralled and amazed. I recommend this show to everyone because it’s a perfect Sunday afternoon show for both the young and old. It not only entertains the viewers but also provides a lot of knowledge at the same time.

CUE CARD – Describe a time when you saw a lot of plastic waste

Speaking – Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a time when you saw a lot of plastic waste.

You should say:

    • When did you see it?
    • Where did you see it?
    • How you felt after seeing it?
Sample Answer

Plastic waste has become is a pressing global problem. I explicitly remember a time when I saw a lot of plastic waste.

Last year, my friends and I planned a trip to Goa, a place famous for its exquisite beaches and mesmerising sunsets. We had a lot of fun there and explored some interesting places. We went to one of the famous beaches in Goa. It was truly amazing and had beautiful spots.

We were completely lost in admiring the beauty of that place until we noticed a heap of plastic garbage near the beach. Undoubtedly, it was a blot on the beauty of that place. The worst part was that animals nearby were consuming the waste, which was very harmful for their health.

All of us were quite upset with what we saw. We decided to give that place a new look and make our trip memorable. Certainly, it was not a piece of cake, but we couldn’t just leave that mess behind. We were filled with firm determination to clean it, so we divided ourselves into two groups, which had different tasks. One group collected the waste and packed it in bags, while the other cleaned.

Watching us, other tourists joined us, and it became a big hit. We were able to clean the place within few hours. It was not less than a victory for each of us. The locals appreciated our efforts and apologised for the negligence they showed towards that place.  They even assured us that from now on they would definitely take care of that place and would be vigilant about it.

Speaking -Part 3 (Follow up questions)

Here are some examples of follow-up questions that examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3) related to the cue card ‘Describe a time when you saw a lot of plastic waste’.

Q1. Why do people often like to use plastic?

I reckon, the ultimate reason why people use plastic is that it is durable. Depending upon the composition, most plastic items take years to decompose. Another reason why people prefer plastic is because it is cheaper than other options available, for example, jute or paper bags.

Q2. How can we reduce the use of plastic?

There are many things that can be done to reduce plastic consumption. For instance, we can opt for eco-friendly options like Jute bags in place of plastic bags. Apart from this, instead of using plastic containers or bottles, we can switch to steel or aluminium products.

  • What is it?
  • With whom did you play it?
  • How often you played it?
  • How did you feel about it?
IELTS Speaking latest cue card 2020. Describe an indoor game that you liked to play when you were a child? What is it? With whom did you play it?
SAMPLE ANSWER

Like other children I’ve played several games, both indoor and outdoor, and in fact, try to play whenever I get time.

Among those games, I enjoyed playing snakes and ladders more than others. It’s an indoor board game based on numbers where 2 to 4 players can play at a time. Since this game required placing the foldable board on a surface and using dice and tokens, it was convenient to play snakes and ladders almost anywhere.

I usually played it with my friends on weekends and with my cousins during my school vacation. Sometimes I played it with my father also. In f

act I would admit my father taught me to play this game. He wanted to teach me how to count and playing this game made learning exciting.

What I liked most about this game was the excitement of climbing the ladders on board as well the rolling of the dice. When the opponent players landed on a snake and had to come sliding down gave me utmost joy! When I lost the game I used to end up crying.

I still remember, my father used to lose the game deliberately so that I could win. I used to get jubilant on winning from him.

Even today, I like to play this game as it brings back fond memories of my childhood. It’s a great way to create a bonding with our loved ones and spend quality time with them.

STRONG WORDS
WORDS MEANING
Utmost of the greatest possible degree or amount: utmost seriousness eg. The situation needs to be handled with utmost care.
