IELTS ESSAY ABOUT HEALTHY LIFESTYLE, IELTS BAND7, DEHRADUN
SAMPLE ANSWER

Health has become a huge concern nowadays for individuals all over the globe. This is evident from a large number of people suffering from a variety of lifestyle diseases such as cancer, obesity, hypertension, diabetes and heart ailments. In these circumstances, whether the individuals themselves or the government should take the onus for their health has become a moot point. In my personal opinion, both personal discipline and the state facilities can turn the numbers around.
Some people opine that an individual himself is responsible for his dietary preferences and exercise regime. Both balanced diet and physical workouts actually determine whether a person is leading a healthy life or not. Moreover, in this fast paced world, maintaining constraint and discipline with regards to food and fitness is extremely difficult which can be achieved only with personal effort. Also, if a person remains motivated to keep distance from bad habits like smoking and drinking, he can lead a better life, physically and mentally as compared to smokers and alcoholics.
However, others assume that only the state intervention can help people live a healthy lifestyle. The reason for their belief is that awareness campaigns and facilities can be provided by government effort alone. The state can display billboards, print articles in newspapers and organize talks which help in creating awareness about the role of a healthy lifestyle in keeping the diseases at bay. Not only that, green areas like parks in cities and gymnasiums with minimal charges can motivate citizens to exercise on daily basis. Also, strict rules to ban smoking in public can save the nonsmokers from the ill effects of passive smoking.
All in all, both individuals themselves and the government can jointly work towards making the majority of people lead a healthy lifestyle. This is of paramount importance to not only keep the citizens disease free but also to increase their standard of living. (315 Words)

IELTS Essay # Identity theft is increasing

IELTS Essay # Identity theft is increasing

In many countries, financial crime involving identity theft is increasing. What are the causes of this trend, and what effect does identity theft have on the victims involved? Give reasons for your answer, and provide ideas and examples from your own experience.
You should spend about 40 minutes on this question. You should write at least 250 words.

Sample Answer

There is no doubt that identity fraud is a great concern, especially in western countries where people are most at risk. I think there are two main causes, and a number of damaging effects.
Firstly, the major cause is probably the almost universal use of digital technology to store financial data and undertake financial transactions. It is surprisingly easy for criminals to obtain personal information about a possible victim and then to use this information to impersonate the target. Because bank accounts and loans can be applied for digitally, without the need for face-to-face contact, the criminals are able to apply for financial products remotely, often before the victim is even aware of the attack. The second key cause is, the increasing probability of ‘traditional’ crimes (such as armed robbery, mugging or burglary) being detected. When criminals see the widespread use of CCTV, DNA profiling and fingerprinting, they are less inclined to indulge in such old-fashioned crimes. Rather, they prefer the lower risk and more profitable use of data-based crimes.
The effects on the unfortunate victims can be quite devastating. Firstly, there is the loss of money from bank accounts or by being connected to a fraudulent loan. In some cases, this can take years for the victim to pay back or resolve with the banks and the authorities. Secondly, there is the damage to their credit rating, which means they may find it impossible to obtain legitimate credit in future. In extreme cases, people’s employment prospects can even be damaged as well, as they find themselves considered as a financial risk.
Overall, the presence of technology and the decline of ‘traditional’ crimes are the key causes behind this trend. The effects on the victims involve long-term financial hardship in many instances. (292 Words)

Essay For IELTS # Importance Of History

Essay For IELTS # Importance Of History

Some people believe that studying history is a waste of time while others think that it is essential to learn. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.
Write at least 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

We learn from history that we learn nothing from history. Most of the people believe this statement to be true and uphold the opinion that learning history is a sheer waste of time, however, others are of the opinion that history forms a very important part in our lives and must not be neglected. I believe, history is important if one learns how to tackle present from it, however, merely learning the names and dates of history is truly a waste of time.

History reflects our past and is considered very critical by many individuals. It surely has great benefits if learned in the right spirit. Firstly, it helps young people to understand their culture and how their culture and country have evolved. This in turn helps them to identify with the current issues of the country. Secondly, history teaches us about travesties that have occurred in the past, such as the Holocaust. It is essential for both people in the past, present and the future to never forget such events in order to honor the memory of those lost and to ensure it never happens again. Thirdly, it provides valuable information such as traditional medicines and how one can use them in solving present day problems.

However, history does becomes a waste when one goes the traditional way of simply learning for gaining marks. Most of the people simply memorize dates, names and facts when they study history. This information is not useful in everyday life or for the future. Secondly, every historical event has different perspective. For this reason, it makes learning history a waste of time because events can be interpreted in different ways. Thirdly, rarely are the school curriculum changed and as a result only little current history can be found which is the only type of history that helps people understand the world they currently live in.

Overall, in my opinion, reading history can surely be a waste of time, but it depends on what you read and how you read. The most successful people were often those who knew history well and knowing does not mean knowing the dates.

IELTS ESSAY # MODERN TECHNOLOGY IS MAKING PEOPLE MORE/LESS SOCIAL, IELTSBAND7 DEHRADUN

Sample Answer

How modern technology is affecting people’s ability to socialise has become a debatable issue. With the advent of modern means of communication, we are becoming more alienated from the society. Some sections of the society argue in favour of this topic while others hold a negative view about it. In this essay, I will discuss both sides of this argument and give my opinion.
On one hand, means of telecommunication have evolved over the course of years. Most people these days have access to the internet. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter etc have revolutionised the way we interact with each other. Features like chatting, sharing videos and commenting on each other’s post have brought people from different corners of the world together. Moreover, it is convenient to stay in touch with others and get to know of their well being without travelling from one place to another.
Other technological devices like Mobile phones have also made it easier to get in touch with one another. There are various features on our mobile phone like internet, messaging, emails etc that help us stay connected with loved ones around the globe. Unquestionably, all these services provided on the phone have made people more social.
On the other hand, in older days, people used to be less dependent upon technology and believed in having face to face conversations. This made individuals more apt to the society. Similarly, various studies have shown that through face to face interactions we are able to build stronger bonds and be more socially active. Mobile phones also confine us to a virtual environment and in many cases excessive use of such devices leads to psychological disorders like depression.
To sum up, the latest modes of communication are a boon to the society. Like any other advancements, modern technology has its pros and cons however, its benefits outweigh the drawbacks by a significant margin. (318 Words)
