In this competitive world, the state of true happiness has become really difficult to achieve. Happiness has a different meaning for different people. In my opinion, some people struggle a lot to achieve happiness, whereas others are chronically happy, irrespective of the situation. This essay will explore why it is difficult to define happiness and what are the different factors influencing happiness.

As we know, different people have different levels of needs. These unsatisfied needs further stimulate an individual to act in order to satisfy them. Once the needs of a specific level are satisfied, an individual starts aspiring to move on to the next level needs. Fulfilment of needs leads to satisfaction which further provides happiness to a person. Therefore, we can say that happiness is a by-product of satisfaction. Since people perceive happiness differently; they find it difficult to quantify happiness. Moreover, happiness is nothing but a state of mind. For example, a highly affluent person may not be contented with what he has; on the contrary, a poor person can be happy while struggling for a day’s meal.

Similarly, there are various determiners of happiness. The first and foremost is a feeling of content. A person who has a feeling of a positive sense of discontent always remains happy. In other words, such a person is happy with his work and life but still aspires for more and more to learn and to achieve. The other factor is the locus of control or the key to happiness. A person is either controlled by the external factors, or he is capable of controlling them. As a result, his happiness is decided by the other people or things, not by his own mind. If people are able to control their minds, then they can control their own happiness, no matter what the circumstances are.

To conclude, happiness depends on our attitudes and perceptions. As far as we have the keys to happiness in our hands, nothing external in this world can affect the level of our happiness and satisfaction.

The old people have always been treated as a dormant part of society since ages. Who should take care of them is a debatable topic these days. Some people think that the senior citizens should be looked after by the government while others have a different opinion. I will discuss both the views in my essay.

On one hand, old people are physically weak and are financially incapacitated. Due to which they are often ignored and abandoned by their children. Moreover, they are considered as a burden on the society because they are not able to earn. By providing a monthly pension to senior citizens, the government can support their empowerment and emancipation. Additionally, if their children do not look after them or leave them, they can still be able to afford a domestic help. Furthermore, the government can also provide them with the facility of old age homes, where they can spend quality time with the people of the same age group.

On the other side, people spend a huge part of their incomes for their children’s well-being. The parents not only give birth to their kids, but also make them stand on their feet. So, in order to pay the debt of gratitude to them, the children should meet the financial and emotional needs of their elderly parents.

To conclude, in my opinion, both children and government are morally responsible for supporting the old people. Because, when they are young, they not only take care of their families, but also contribute a lot to nation building. Moreover, the government can also help them lead a happy and respectful life by providing some kind of financial assistance. Certainly, any financial support will inevitably make them capable of living independently.

In last few decades, the trend has shifted from joint family to nuclear family. Nowadays, children don’t prefer spending time with their grandparents as they happy to have internet and smartphones. These changes in the society has led to an apparent discrimination between the old and the young. In some countries old generation is exceptionally important whereas, in other countries the new generation holds more significance. I will discuss about both the views in my essay.

On one hand, due to the rise in dual income households, the role of elderly people has also increased. Working parents can leave their children in the custody of the grandparents. This way they can help their children to learn the right values and morals which is impossible with the maids and servants. Additionally, old people are the stewards of the culture and traditions of a country which they transfer to the next generation. They also help in fostering capable young individuals by sharing their knowledge, skills and experiences with them.

As we know, old generation usually resists changes which inhibits them exploring and learning new things. On the contrary, young people are quite acquisitive and believe in change .Therefore, they contribute a lot to innovations and inventions. The youth are the  power behind the nation building and development because they are very energetic and ambitious. In addition to that, they don’t believe in discrimination on the grounds of race, colour, language and gender. Today’s youth is capable of challenging and changing the age-old customs and traditions of a country, in spite of following them blindly.

To conclude, the attitude of different generations towards work and life, defines their behaviour towards each other. Certainly, the youth of today are the future of tomorrow. Nevertheless, the society would become incomplete and uneven without the existence of old people. Therefore, old and experienced people are indispensable to nurture the society as they hold the culture and traditions of a country strong and alive.

A weddings signifies the culture and traditions of a country. In the past few years, the wedding industry has marked a remarkable growth worldwide. Certainly, a wedding is not an unvoiced affair, but a magniloquent event. Some people believe that spending freely and lavishly on weddings is acceptable whereas, others think that it is not required at all. I will discuss about both the views in my essay.

On one hand, Indian weddings have a great contribution in generating employment. As wedding industry requires the services of other segments also like hospitality, catering, apparels, decoration and makeup etc. Additionally, an expansion of wedding industry indicates a substantial growth in other service sectors as well. What is more, marriage is once in a lifetime event. Therefore, people spend lavishly to make it a special and memorable moment. These weddings bring all family members, friends and relatives at one place. So, they get an opportunity to spend some quality time together with lots of fun and enjoyment.

On the other hand, predominantly, a tradition of grand marriages puts a burden on the people who are not affluent financially. People not only spend their lifelong savings on these weddings but also borrow lofty loans just to impress the society. In addition, varieties of cuisines are prepared and served to the guests. Many times a large portion of food remains unconsumed and is wasted eventually. This money can otherwise be invested and utilised for other productive endeavours.

To conclude, wedding is the most pious and auspicious ceremony in our life. It has lately become a subject of reputation and pride. In my opinion, in spite of spending money carelessly on these magnificent weddings, tying a knot should be a simple and private affair.
