The old people have always been treated as a dormant part of society since ages. Who should take care of them is a debatable topic these days. Some people think that the senior citizens should be looked after by the government while others have a different opinion. I will discuss both the views in my essay.

On one hand, old people are physically weak and are financially incapacitated. Due to which they are often ignored and abandoned by their children. Moreover, they are considered as a burden on the society because they are not able to earn. By providing a monthly pension to senior citizens, the government can support their empowerment and emancipation. Additionally, if their children do not look after them or leave them, they can still be able to afford a domestic help. Furthermore, the government can also provide them with the facility of old age homes, where they can spend quality time with the people of the same age group.

On the other side, people spend a huge part of their incomes for their children’s well-being. The parents not only give birth to their kids, but also make them stand on their feet. So, in order to pay the debt of gratitude to them, the children should meet the financial and emotional needs of their elderly parents.

To conclude, in my opinion, both children and government are morally responsible for supporting the old people. Because, when they are young, they not only take care of their families, but also contribute a lot to nation building. Moreover, the government can also help them lead a happy and respectful life by providing some kind of financial assistance. Certainly, any financial support will inevitably make them capable of living independently.

  • This essay have too many vocabulary which is helping and supporting and beautifully connecting the sentences. Additionally, some sentences are also playing essentially beautiful role, like “the parents not only give birth to their kids, but also make them stand on their feet”.
In my opinion, I totally understand this essay with very simple or better way.

  • The mantra of man’s life has been change. It’s the only constant impacting and affecting lifestyles, relationships and families. People will have different opinions on whether old people should stay at old age homes or not and who shall pay for the expenses incurred, the family or the government. In my opinion the family shall bear all the cost.

Relationship between families has undergone a dramatic change, especially in the 21st century. Joint/nuclear families, patriarchy system with the man being the head – all has undergone a metamorphosis due to various reasons. In old days, we would never think of sending our parents to an old age home but as the time has changed and we are more comfortable with staying in a nuclear family so we tend to take such decisions. And it’s not specifically in Britain, there are several families in other countries like India who have send old people to old age homes. So it’s an individual’s responsibility to make sure the facilities provided to the orderly people are up-to the mark or not.

On the contrary, one might point out that the government should also take some responsibility of its citizens, especially the senior citizens. As per the government norms, all the senior citizens are provided additional facilities and preferences like discounts in travel ticket and other government amenities. Secondly, the government will have limited budgets so it might not be able to provide the best services to the old people. Moreover, most of the old age homes are run by NGO’s and the government provides aid only when extremely required.

To conclude, if old people from a family are moving to old age home, its completely a decision taken by the family so this becomes their responsibility to take of all the charges applicable, not the government.
