University education is one of the most important elements of an individual’s life. It is not just a learning process, it is a critical component of human development worldwide. Going to an educational institute and getting a degree is considered to be the best way by some for having a good job and a prosperous life. There are others, who contradict this statement and believe that getting some sort of practical experience and investing your time in learning a skill is worthier. In this essay, I will analyse both these views and give my opinion.
On one hand, the supporters of tertiary education may argue that spending money on higher education has many tangible (real and not imaginary) and intangible (to give an exact value) benefits. An educated person has wide range of opportunities as compared to a skilled person moreover, an educated person is able to choose his own career path as compared to a skilled person who is more dependent upon physical labour. Most of the universities across the world have courses and degrees that are universally recognisable, so one has chances of moving abroad for better opportunities
In the same way, developing skills is also a major component as not always does a university degree prove to be worthy of its cost and time spend on it. Various studies have shown that 30 percent of the students drop out in the second year of their course as they believe they were never sure about education. Unemployment among university degree holders is rising at a rapid rate and due to economic slowdown most of the companies are making their employees redundant. The cost of a university degree is very high and most people in developing countries often take loans to complete their higher education. Not to mention the additional burden of fees that families have to bear.
In the end, after looking at both the sides, I do believe that developing soft skills does have some advantages over university education in the short run but in the long run benefits of university education certainly outweigh minor drawbacks such as cost and unemployment. (354 Words)

IELTS ESSAY # EVERYONE CAN GET ACCESS TO THE INTERNET, IELTSBAND7, DEHRADUN

Sample Answer

The Internet has changed the way we perceive day to day activities. It has affected major walks of life and given entertainment a new perspective. Majority of the western countries have digitally revolutionised and everyone has access to the internet while in other parts of the world it is still considered as a luxury. It is often argued that governments should be responsible for ensuring that everyone can get access to the internet. I personally do not believe that it is the government’s responsibility to provide free internet access to everyone as it is quite an unreasonable demand. In this essay, I will support my opinion with examples.
In many growing economies, the government has several major problems to tackle like hunger, poverty, infrastructure and healthcare etc. In my opinion, equating these issues with the need of access to the internet is quite illogical however, the government can instead digitalise public institutions such as libraries, colleges, community centres etc and provide free internet access to everyone. Various studies have shown that majority of the people use internet for entertainment rather than educational purposes. Social media like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc are the most commonly visited sites as compared to educational websites, which are rarely browsed. Setting up internet facilities requires expensive equipment which will put additional burden on an already pressurised government and I would rather have the government spend this money to eradicate poverty or on the basic needs of its citizens.
In the end, I would like to conclude that even though providing internet access in some parts of the world will be a step in the right direction, certainly it’s not the need of the hour. According to me, providing basic facilities such as food, sanitation, clean drinking water etc are of much more importance and should be dealt at first. (301 Words)

IELTS ESSAY: Getting a degree or straight into work. Which is better?

Sample Answer:

In the recent years, the fight on getting a better job has inclined. Today, many people believe that attending a university is only one way to get a satisfying job than other people, while some defenders say that it is not always right. Thanks to the new idea of college dropouts who are making a dramatic change in the society. This essay will discuss both the ideas and explain them with relevant examples.

Firstly, it is definitely true that a degree is very crucial for applying to a job. Many MNCs require a list of qualifications. A graduated degree, high language proficiency level and computer and technical skills are all required in main stream jobs today. A graduation degree is the only way to prove that a person is ready, trained or has learned all mandatory skills required for work. Having a degree can make a person more attractive to the Hiring Agency for being offered a great job. Secondly, some professional careers such as a doctor, engineers or lawyer require a certain specific subject oriented skill set and knowledge which cannot be acquired all by yourself at home.

On the other hand, in some streams like art preferably, a degree is of no practical value. The amount of dedication and time one has devoted to their form is what matters. For example, a mechanic or business workers needs to only value experience and develop some skills which they can get only by practice. Even though, a person is not highly educated, if he/she starts working early and gains a lot of experience, it can also be easy for them to get a satisfying job and achieve success in the future.

Hence, to sum up, both sides have their own experience making it difficult to decide which path is right. However, it is always a positive side that having a degree will be a great guarantee for hunting a rewarding job in the work market.

IELTS Essay Sample Questions # Reward Or Punishment

You should spend 40 minutes on this task.

Do children behave better when they are rewarded or punished? Discuss both views and give your opinion.

You should write at least 250 words.

SAMPLE ANSWER

The most impactful years in the lives of person are that of childhood. It is in these years that one forms impressions and the experiences shape the nature and behavior of the child. Some people believe that a child must be punished for a wrongdoing while others believe that one must shape an individual through rewards.

Rewards and recognition are the positive pillars to motivate a person. When a child gets a reward for speaking well or discipline or cleanliness, it motivates him or her to do it more. Even more, the child gets to know the importance of the good things he or she is doing in life. Even more, complementing children for their excellence boosts their self-esteem and help them become better individuals.

However, punishments have their own impact on the lives of an individual. Children refrain from doing an activity in fear of receiving punishment. For instance, if a child was abstained from having chocolate because of a mistake he or she did, there will be a realisation on why the things are not right. Punishing must not mean physical or mental torture, if done with care it brings in the realisation more than fear.

Overall, growing years are formative years of a child life and both rewards and punishment are necessary. In my opinion, a child must get both but what is more important is the realisation of things from rewards and recognition.
