IELTS Speaking Sample Answer # Emotions

We all have so many emotions. Sometimes we are happy, angry, sad, numb. There are so many things that can trigger emotions in us. It could be your family, love life or career. A bad day or a lovely day, and we all express what we feel through our emotions. Let us today have a look at some of the questions related to emotions.

Do you think it is good to show your emotions when you are angry?

I think to express the reason for anger is good and should be done, because until then nothing can be done to solve the situation. However, harming oneself or others without trying to solve the main reason for anger, is not a very great thing to do. Because, it not only harms you but also others. However, there are other ways to show off anger. Some write, paint or scribble. I think until it is not harmful, anger should be expressed like every other expression.

Do ill mannered people tend to upset you?

Ill mannered people do sometimes tend to upset me because there is so much negativity that they bring along with them. Often times there is no logic behind what they are saying and no reasons for what they are doing. It just becomes in their nature to behave badly, which tends to get annoying. However, if someone behaves rudely rarely, I prefer finding out the reasons for it.

emotions

In your opinion, do women show their emotions more than men?

If we go by the stereotype, women tend to show emotions more than men. But, in my opinion, both the genders tend to show emotions equally. However, the emotions that they choose to show are different. For instance, a woman is less likely to show anger as compared to her male counterpart but more likely to show her tears. Also, when a woman is happy she tends to share it with others in a very calm way, however, a man is more likely to show off in a grandiose way.

Does  it upset you when you see children or animals being abused?

It surely does irritates me because these are the two section of society that I believe deserve the love most from us. Children being so innocent are rarely able to raise any voice, accepting every abuse as their destiny. Often times, there are few who raise the voice but their voices don’t get the ears they deserve, may be because they themselves are not able to express well. With animals, I think it is more of shame for us humans to treat them badly. We often forget that they, like we, are equally part of nature.

What is your opinion of the politicians who make promises but are unable to keep?

I believe, often the promises made during the elections are just a glimpse of what they  will do if they get selected more often. So, for example, if the government gets a tenure of say 10 years they might be able to fulfill all their promises. However, when it does not happen, we tend to assume the government did nothing. But, it is also true that more often governments make promises they themselves know are not feasible, keeping the country men in dark.

How do you feel or will feel if your partner flirts with some one else?

I am sure I won’t like it much, who will? But,then it also depends on the situation. Like, sometimes you know, that no matter what the other person is saying is not considerable because of the tone they choose and the mood of the entire situation. However, sometimes one just gets to know that the words being spoken are very literal. I think if ever I felt that I might be cheated I am more likely to leave the relation.

How does a slow computer or mobile phone makes you feel?

Oh!! it makes me feel like a loser, trust me. You know there are times when you want to do things and then when the gadgets starts showing up, it becomes so irritating and when the work if of some one else, you cannot even tell the issues, it is  up to you to face and do something about it. Even more, it spoils the entire mood of doing things.

Imprisonment is one of the most common forms of punishment in several parts of the world. However, the effectiveness of this system has been in question for a long time! A high percentage of prisoners relapse into crime once they are released into the community. In my view, sentencing criminals to time in prison fails in most cases and in this essay I will explain why.

Firstly, offenders enjoy a comfortable life in prisons. Many of them have access to luxuries such as televisions, mobile phones, free internet and sport facilities etc. In other words, instead of being a place where lawbreakers should learn a life lesson, prisons become holiday camps. If the penal system really expects prisons to act as a deterrent, then I think it should be tougher.

Secondly, separation from society is not the solution of problem for most offenders. Take pickpockets and shoplifters as examples. Keeping these petty criminals in the same cells as rapists, murderers or violent criminals actually worsens the situation. This is because after serving their time in prisons, juvenile and minor offenders often turn into habitual and professional criminals.  Sadly, governments and tax payers have to bear the cost of keeping these recidivists (= a criminal who continues to commit crimes even after they have been punished) in jails. I think punishing them through fines, community service or other non-custodial means etc. is a better option.

To conclude, I do understand that criminals who pose a threat to society cannot be allowed to roam freely. For such people, imprisonment is necessary. But, for other offences prison is not the answer. In my view, the severity of the crime committed should be taken into consideration before deciding on the punishment.

Sample Answer

The bar graph shows the salaries of various professions when they started, compared with their salaries after three years. The adjoining table also contains data for the average working hours for each profession per week.

It can be deciphered that the salaries after three years have increased for each profession. However, the underground train driver got the maximum increment of 2500 Pounds, and the policeman got the least increment of 600 Pounds. The nurse got the least salary amounting to only approximate 15,700 Pounds, whereas the underground train driver got just under 50,000 Pounds which was the highest amount of salary in comparison. On the other hand, the teacher and the policeman get slightly more than 23,000 Pounds and 33,000 Pounds respectively.

Comparing this data to the working hours per week, it is found that the underground train driver is being paid the most amount of money per hour and nurse being paid the least. In contrast, the teacher and firefighter have 55 working hours which are the highest. Moreover, the nurse and the underground train driver have 38 and 36 working hours respectively, which are the lowest.

To sum up, even after three years and a substantial raise of salary for each profession, the trend does not change and the tube driver was still topping the chart and the nurse on the last position.

I am not used to getting presents as such. I am quite a big gamer to be honest and my Xbox was running on borrowed days. It would leave me fuming at times as it’ll hang in the middle of the game and at times, I am not even able to save the session before it turns off. I broke my Xbox and got bored of the Microsoft platform so I was looking to get the latest version of PS4. I did save some money and was looking for the best possible deals to get a new gaming device but budget constraints and student life made it quite difficult to own such a high end gadget.
As I said I am not used to receiving gifts so it has to be a very special occasion for one to spoil me. We share a special bond and she generally leaves the best of the surprises for my birthday. I was turning 22 just graduated out of college and about to move abroad for further studies. I wouldn’t be able to celebrate the next two birthdays with her due to study commitments so she thought of doing something special for me.
My sister must have heard the conversation I was having with my friend regarding it and decided to get me a PS4 on my birthday. Little did I know that I’ll be getting that as a present rather than buying it myself. I was reading and gathering information about it on a daily basis. I was looking for the best deals online and even arranged for some vouchers that I could have redeemed against the purchase.
I was over the moon. Happiness like that cannot be expressed in words. She went the extra yard to make my birthday so special and what was even more overwhelming was the manner in which she surprised me. My friend called me and asked me to get home as soon as possible. When I got home, I was surprised to see entire family and friends gathered together to celebrate my birthday. We had a great time together and danced all night to some great tunes. (360 Words)

Sample Answer Two

Over the years I have garnered a long wish list consisting of a variety of enticing objects that have captured my attention. Ranging from collectible items and books to cars and motorcycles. It is a quite common phenomenon and I am sure to be ecstatic whenever I acquire any of these things.

There was this one time when I came to know about a new watch on the market. The watch had a lot of modern and rare features such as a barometer, a compass, and an altimeter. Made of tough materials, it also offered solar charging along with world time facility as well. I wanted it because I like going on trekking trips and taking walks in forest areas, and the features in this watch would help me a lot during such expeditions. Consequently, I looked around for it and I knew that I wanted it as soon as I set my eyes on it. So much so, that I printed out a picture and pasted it on my bedroom wall and in the meanwhile also started saving for it. One day my mother told me that my uncle was coming over to visit us in the upcoming month. I was ecstatic as he always came bearing gifts and adored me a lot. The time came and my uncle arrived at our home. He unpacked his bag and called me over, handing me a package.

Surely, I was surprised and tore it up to look inside. There it was, the watch of my dreams, packed neatly in the brand packaging. I really was very delighted upon receiving this watch as I like wearing watches and did not have one back then. I was very happy and I hugged my uncle while thanking him profusely.
