A lot of things happen to us on a daily basis. Some of the incidents we forget and the others become memories for a lifetime. A few days ago, due to a meeting, I had to stay back in the office after office hours. While going back to home, I noticed that my car was in a reserve mode owning to insufficient petrol. Since, I had gotten late, I did not stop at the petrol pump to get the fuel filled in my car. Moreover, I had withdrawn myself from the possible consequences of that negligence.

After reaching a few kilometres away from my office, the car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road. As it was already 10 at night, the roads were empty and desolate. Hence, no assistance was available nearby. On the top of that, I forgot my mobile in the office.  I was unable to ask my family and friends for any help. I was perplexed and totally blank in that awful situation. However, I was still waiting for a miracle to happen. I was standing on the road and looking left and right with a hope in my heart. Fortunately, I saw a biker coming towards me, whom I stopped and inquired about a fuel station close by. I came to know that it was a few kilometres ahead from there.

As I could not leave my car there, I decided to push the car until I find it. After an ordeal for almost an hour, I finally reached there and found it closed. I felt so disappointed and frustrated. While I was standing there, completely tired and hopeless, a person emerged out of the air. When he asked about my problem, I briefed him the whole incident. Without giving a second thought he called up his friend and asked him to bring some petrol for me.After a while his friend brought the petrol in a plastic bottle. Moreover, he denied for any payment in return. We exchanged our numbers and that angel has later become my best friend.

In today’s corporate world, our knowledge, skills and experience remain unrecognized, if we fail to work effectively and efficiently. No matter how efficient and hard working we are failing to produce the desired results in stipulated time results in losing credibility.

[PARA 1]

I work as a content writer in a marketing company. Like other jobs, my job also has some targets to achieve on monthly basis. Recently, my boss had given me a target of writing 50 blogs in a month along with additional responsibilities. Being new tot he company, it took me a while to multi-task between writing blogs and the additional task in my bucket list! Still, I was trying my best to perform better. While balancing my multiple duties and responsibilities, I forgot that sometimes, quantity matters more than the quality.

[PARA 2]

While, I was almost on the verge of meeting the deadlines, all of sudden, I fell sick and that too just before the month end. Unfortunately, I could not come to the office for two days .As a result, I could write only 30 articles which were way less than the expected numbers. Moreover, I had no justification for my unsatisfactory performance. As an extrinsic factor, my unplanned illness  perfectly played its role in my failure. However, I realized that I could probably manage my work effectively if I would have been more proactive and organised.

[PARA 3]

I felt so disappointed and disheartened because in spite of trying so ardently I could not achieve the monthly target. But as we know, every failure has a lesson to teach. So, due to this incidence, I had learned one thing for sure that the gap between the actual and the expected performance eventually decides our happiness and disappointment at workplace. Therefore, our actual performance should be equivalent or more than the expected performance to be an achiever. Then only we get rewards and recognition in all spheres of our life.

IELTS Speaking Cue Card: Describe your Favorite Song

IELTS Speaking Part 2 Topic Music

Describe your favorite song.

  • Which song is it?
  • Why you like it?
  • When you first heard it?
  • Why you feel attached to it?
Sample Answer

My favorite song is “Skyfall”. It is the theme song of the James Bond film named “Skyfall. It is an orchestral pop song performed by English singer Adele. She had also co-written the Skyfall theme with Paul Epworth. They both have won Grammy for this song in the category of ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media’. The song is based on the plot, about two people being together to face all the obstacles of life courageously.

This song has always been close to my heart since I first heard it. My friend made me hear this song while driving back to home from our office. We both like watching series of James Bond movies and this song sounds exactly like a typical Bond song. I loved it straight away and played it again and again. I think, this song is simple yet has a profound meaning .It truly motivates us if we correctly interprets its hidden meaning. The lyrics of this song are in sync with the plot of the film. It tells about the cycle of “death and rebirth”, and how we spend the journey of life. Even in the most dreadful moment of life, we can conquer anything if we have the support of our loved ones.

The sky and the earth paradoxically coming together portrays a point where one life ends and other starts and the soul becomes free. In the beginning of this song, the music is very slow, light and soothing, makes me feel serene and composed. Gradually, it becomes bold, strong and exhilarating. Whenever I listen to this song, it empowers me and gives me a combined sense of excitement and tranquility. This song may refer to a spiritual journey of life, or the connection between two souls but it certainly gives you goose bumps. Moreover, Adele’s soul-stirring voice definitely compliments it well.

Overall, I feel that orchestral music is so versatile, which gives you a mixed kind of emotions while listening to it. Due to such kind of music, this song has become deep, beautiful and uplifting.
