Websites are the talk of the town these days! They are everywhere, everyone has to do something with them! With so many people becoming bloggers or vloggers, the market has just widened. This time we are looking at a cue card that asks the student for their favorite website,

CUE CARD

Talk about your favourite Website.

  • Why is it your favourite website?
  • How often do you use it?
  • What would life be without it?
SAMPLE ANSWER

Internet has just changed the way the world operates. Gone are the days when you were tied down to your circumstances. These days, because of internet, you can be anything that you want  to be and every one have in some way become connected to it. We all have our favorite websites, that we visit more often. My favorite is youtube.com. The reason for me liking it is that it is a fantastic way of sharing things. People can upload their work, they can see what people are doing without even knowing them personally. I myself have used it for watching motivational videos, learning new stuff and sharing many a times.

I started using youtube 2 years ago and it has been a great experience. Being a blogger, youtube is another source of information for me, a rather descriptive and more reliable one! So, I use it for my work and also for leisure some times. I can stay on youtube to watch trailers for movies and songs and speeches. Even more, for my exam preparation, there are plethora of channels that I look forward to.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I have been using it since the time I started blogging. Without it, life will be difficult and more importantly, I guess it will be quite limited. But I hope something similar or may be even better than it pops up.

Each one of us has at least one favorite sport or game which we like to play ourselves or follow on different media. There are many sports channels on TV and sites on the internet which enable us to watch different matches and tournaments which take place around the globe. It is obvious that we have our own favorite sports star whom we love to see on the field. Let us look at a cue card that asks us to talk about a sportsperson whom we like the most.

Like majority of my fellow Indians, I love to watch the game of cricket. If I talk of cricket in my country, Sachin Tendulkar is one name which shines like a precious diamond. He was a former captain of the Indian national team and is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all times. Tendulkar started playing the game at the age of eleven and made his test debut against Pakistan at the age of sixteen. He is a record holder by scoring one hundred double centuries and completing more than 30,000 runs in international cricket. He is lovingly called the little master or master blaster by his fans. He is also considered as the god of cricket by his fans and fellow cricketers. The government of India felicitated him with numerous awards and honors such as Arjuna award, Rajiv Gandhi khel Ratna award, Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan. He is also the youngest recipient of the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award. Not only is he a great player but a wonderful human being also. He always motivates and supports young players of not just cricket but other sports as well. In the end I’d like to say that we all are extremely proud of Sachin Tendulkar and wish that all the young players continue to gain inspiration from this great personality.

Describe a television program that you watch.
You should say:

  • why you enjoy watching the television programme
  • and explain why you would recommend the television programme to other people.
Sample Answer:

I would like to talk about HOUSE MD. It is an American television medical drama. The series’ main character is Dr Gregory House played by Hugh Laurie, an unconventional, misanthropic medical genius who, despite his dependence on pain medication, leads a team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) in New Jersey.
House often clashes with his fellow physicians, including his own diagnostic team, because many of his hypotheses about patients’ illnesses are based on subtle or controversial insights. His flouting of hospital rules and procedures frequently leads him into conflict with his boss, hospital administrator and Dean of Medicine Dr Lisa Cuddy played by Lisa Edelstein. House’s only true friend is Dr James Wilson played by Robert Sean Leonard, head of the Department of Oncology.
I really like watching House, for Gregory and his unconventional medical theories and practices (like giving placebo to patients) and on the other characters’ reactions to them, rather than on the details of the treatments. He frequently proclaims during the team’s deliberations, “The patient is lying”, or “Everybody lies”; such an assumption guides House’s decisions and diagnoses. Because many of his hypotheses are based on epiphanies or controversial insights, he often has trouble obtaining permission for medical procedures he considers necessary from his superior.
Total of eight seasons, House was among the top 10 series in the United States from its second through fourth seasons. Distributed to 66 countries, House was the most-watched television program in the world in 2008. I would recommend it to other people for, this series offers insight into the medical world and various types of diseases which most of us have never heard of. And how by running differential diagnosis and listing etiologies they finally narrow down to the cause, find the correct diagnosis and save the patient. (301 words)

Describe an area of science that interests you or you are interested in

You should say:

And explain why you enjoy it so much

I think that science has made an immense contribution in uplifting human society. It primarily has 3 branches, physics, chemistry and biology and if I talk about myself, I am particularly interested in biology and would like to talk about the same.

This area of science involves the study of life and living organisms, including their physical structure, development and evolution on the Earth. I got interested in this subject when I was in 6th standard, as the subject was introduced to me for the very first time. My school books were full of pictures of animals and plants. I was surprised to learn how a tiny seed grows into a healthy plant, different species of flora and fauna; habitat in which they can survive and the features which help them to do so. Whenever, I saw a picture of a plant or an animal it made me even more curious about this subject.

My teacher, Mrs Rawat was an exceptionally knowledgeable person and she made this subject easy and fun learning with her teaching skills. I remember vividly, there was a science lab in my school where we used to go every Saturday to carry out experiments and the activity I enjoyed doing in the lab was to observe micro-organisms with the microscope. There were times when students did not understand the lessons for the first time and Mrs Rawat have not scolded any children when they ask for an explanation to the teacher. In fact, for better understanding of certain aspects she often organized trips. Once our school organized a trip to Botanical Garden in Kolkata. It was a memorable trip and I had learnt a lot from this trip about different species of plants.

Although, I have not studied biology in my senior secondary and college, I have a keen interest in this subject and in order to know more about different life forms and to keep my interest intact in this subject I do watch wildlife and plant shows on educational channels like Planet Earth and Discovery.
