IELTS Cue Card solved a problem

Sample Answer

We come across many problems in our day-to-day life. Some people can find workable solutions while others may seek help for tackling their problems. Today, I’m going to talk about a close friend who gave an effective solution to my problem. His name is Rishabh Agarwal. He is from Haryana. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

I’m the manager of a primary school in Mumbai.  It rains heavily in Mumbai in the rainy season which lasts from mid-June to early October. School kids cannot play any outdoor games during these months because playgrounds become slippery and muddy. The long rainy season affects children’s health and moods as well. It’s also not possible for kids to be in sport halls all the time.  I discussed this problem with Rishabh and asked for his advice to handle this situation.

He came up with a clever idea of having pedals installed in school desks so that kids can pedal in classrooms. I loved his creative idea and thought of implementing it in our school.  Within a month pedals were installed in five classrooms. It was an experiment to check kids’ response. To our surprise, children started using pedals regularly and the overall outcome was very positive. All students became physically active and their fitness and health levels improved dramatically. In studies too, kids did considerably well.

In my view, Rishabh’s solution was very clever for two main reasons. First of all, it was very practical. Secondly, it was not expensive. If the school had to spend a lot of money on this solution, I think it wouldn’t have been approved by the management committee. Sometimes a complex problem has a simple solution, we have to just strike the right note. I think those who use their knowledge in a practical way are better problem-solvers.

SAMPLE ANSWER TWO:

We encounter so many problems in our everyday activities, which need only a spark of an idea to tackle with them. But, often, due to the lack of right reasoning along with the panic in our heads, the problem appears to be a herculean task and we fail to find the right solution. Similarly, I can recount an incident, when the sheer smartness and instantaneous wits of my friend helped tackle the situation in an unnoticed, humorous manner. During my school days, I used to take part in dramatics and had also won a few accolades in it. So, once, during an act in a very lengthy play in an Inter Public School Drama Competition, I met this forgetfulness of my dialogues. As it was a very crucial act, my forgetfulness could have brought embarrassment and eventually the poor scores to our school team.

It was then, when my friend and co actor Aditya came to my recue on the stage. In that act, there were a number of dialogues coupled together, which I had to speak in one go. My friend was acting as a villain in that play. I recited the initial lines glibly but then, suddenly, I lost the memory of my successive dialogue and began fumbling. Generally, it takes a few seconds lapse for the immersed audience to acknowledge the forgetting error in actors in a play; but once it happens, it results into a sarcastic laughter from their side and a total collapse of the successive act. So, before that could happen to us, my friend Aditya, who was there with me in that particular act, sprung up with a boisterous laugh, characteristic of a typical villain. He instantaneously gazed into my eyes, as if giving me the time to recollect the dialogues. Within a flash of time, I was able to remember my part. Once he got the affirmative gesture from me, he discontinued laughing and I resumed with my dialogues.

Well, the spontaneity, with which my friend came up with this additional laughter act, was equivalent to the drop of a hat. He not only disallowed the audience to take cognizance of that error, but, additionally, he also won brownie points for his sudden laughter. I think that was the only best thing to do at that time, which he did. I was highly impressed with his outstanding wits and presence of mind.

Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 Why can’t most people act smartly amidst problems?

Sample Answer: I think, when a person is stuck in a problem, they usually ponder over the problem only, which makes it appear prodigious. This leads to the panic in their minds and an overall confusion which results in a further distance from the solution. Their hearts start sinking and minds go blank of knowledge which results in the total surrender to a problem.

Q. 2 How should one handle a problem?

Sample Answer: I think, one should not perceive the problem as a true problem. It should be considered as a little glitch only, in the path of accomplishment. One should treat it lightly and focus on the ideas to find a way out. Earnest efforts put together with a smart approach can make any problem go disappear.

Q. 3 Are problems good or bad to a person?

Sample Answer: By the first look, any problem appears to be the worst adversary to the person. But, actually, they serve as a mean to learn new skills and better coping mechanisms. It was the problem only, that gave birth to new inventions and innovations. For instance, problem of not having light in the night gave birth to Edison’s invention of light bulb. Every wrong path actually leads to a reduction of the total no. of paths and finally we are left with the right solution only.

Happiness is a feeling of contentment which is characterised by a sense of well-being. To be happy, we have to struggle in order to fulfil our needs at different stages of life. Moreover, achieving something after many attempts and failures, we truly understand the meaning of real happiness.

I belong to Delhi and I completed my post-graduation in Business Administration six months ago. Since I was not willing to leave my parents alone, I was looking for a suitable job in Delhi only. In spite of being a topper, I was unable to get through any interview after trying for almost 5 months. Alongside the campus interviews, I was also applying in different companies. Most of my batch mates were already got placed through campus placement. So, the level of my stress and anxiety was increasing day by day. I wanted to make my parents feel proud of me by fulfilling their expectations. In the process of job hunting, one thing I had realised that getting a job is not as simple as it seems

Finally, on September 1st, this year, I got an interview call from a renowned multinational company based in Delhi. I gathered all my confidence and courage to face that interview. I was ready to focus more on the performance rather than the result. Hence, I was determined to give my best in the interview no matter what. After facing different rounds of interview, I was finally selected for my dream job. To my surprise, the salary offered to me was beyond my expectations. My happiness knew no bounds and tears started rolling down my eyes. I thanked God and my parents for the same.

This event is the happiest and unforgettable moment of my life. It has taught me a lesson for the lifetime that we should never give up and keep trying to achieve our goals in life.

Event management is altogether a discipline which requires you to be dexterous in certain skills set. Time management, schedule and sequence of different programmes in that event, content refinement and diffusion of a spirit of harmony and excellence; are some of the pivotal ingredients of event organization. For me, it was the farewell party at school, that opportunitised me with its organization. I was at school in eleventh class and we, the penultimate class was responsible for the farewell party to passing outs. I was assigned by our class teacher to supervise and manage the whole arrangements.

Although, I was a little docile in my schooldays, but as soon as my teacher asked me to undertake the farewell party, I was an instantaneous volunteer. May be the task of responsibility was a driver of my happiness and contention, so I readily prompted. One of my girl classmates was assisting me in this. We had to arrange the snacks and dinner, good music rolls, speech/sitting arrangements, floral/ribbon decorations and mementos to be awarded to final year students. Most of it was arranged from within the school including the food that was catered by our mess people. I prepared the itinerary of events with a proper layout.

This was my maiden attempt at organizing an event. Therefore, I was a little anxious too. My prominent worry was about electric supply disruption as we did not arrange a generator for the party. It was as per the teacher’s discretion. But fortunately, we didn’t meet any such hiccup.

It was a fine learning experience for me. Putting things at a right place at right time is an art of management, that I learnt from it. It boosted my spirits for taking initiatives in life too. Letting your own organized event happen in front of you successfully gave me a sense of accomplishment, a sense of satisfaction.

travel Best IELTS Band 7 coaching in dehradun

Sample Answer

I am an avid traveler and have visited many cities across India and other countries for work and leisure purposes. My favorite city out of the ones that I have visited is Sydney. A major city in Australia, it is the state capital of New South Wales. It is situated on the southeastern coast of Australia near the Tasman Sea and is home to around 4.6 million people. I traveled to this city in 2013 after my high school for a vacation.

This city has many attractions and there are many reasons for my fondness. A veritable collection of beaches, natural areas, botanic gardens, parks, and high rising buildings add to its beauty. This city has many heritage buildings and landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, Harbor Bridge, and the observatory.

It is known for the dynamic cultural hub and houses many famous museums and art galleries with great architecture. The weather is pleasant all round the year, and the views are beautiful.

The best part is the city planning and public services. I found the transportation services to be affordable and highly effective. The city is very well planned and it is very easy to commute or reach different places. People there are friendly and welcoming, and help the tourists with many things.

The city is lively and vibrant and offers a lot of other things to do apart from sightseeing. In my limited time there, I tried to visit as many places as possible, and soaked in the beauty of the marvelous places that I went to. I would visit this city again whenever I get an opportunity.

money-as-a-gift Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

Sample Answer

A gift always brings a smile on our face, whenever we receive it. Moreover, it shows our importance in other’s life. Different types of gifts are given on different occasions, as a token of blessings and love. I have also received many gifts so far on various occasions. On my last birthday, I received money as a gift from my elder brother.

Since he was confused about my preference for a gift, he decided to give me some money as a gift so that I could buy anything as per my choice. He made my birthday special when he had given me an envelope containing some cash. There was an exact amount of cash inside which I required to purchase an Apple Watch. I felt so overwhelmed that tears started rolling down my eyes. Next day, I and my brother went to the market and bought a white Apple Watch for me. Out of the excitement, I clicked a picture of that watch and posted on my social site to share my happiness with my friends and relatives.

I was really grateful to my brother for the gesture of love and care he had shown me. I really love him for his unconditional love and support. He understands my needs even if I do not tell him. That gift was indeed special for me but the person who gave me that gift is the most special one.

Describe something you received for free.

  • Who did you receive it from and when?
  • How did you receive it?

And how did you feel?

SAMPLE ANSWER TWO-

One comes across few instances in life, when he/she receives freebies on certain occasions. One plus one is one such bogof, where you get to receive one gift free along with the one bought by you. At one point of time, I was the recipient of such a free giving occasion. It was a farm sized pizza, more than enough for even two people and we were only two, my wife and me, at that time.

We planned to go for some shopping in Delhi on the eve of our first wedding anniversary. It was the summer time and we went to Connaught place in central Delhi, where we can easily access big branded showrooms for both of us. By the time we were finished with the shopping, it was noon already. Sun was overhead and we felt like lounging ourselves in a chill restaurant for lunch. My wife immediately popped up with the idea of a pizza at MacDonald’s. We were the occasional gobblers of such fast foods therefore I, at once, gave my consent to it. We went to the one located nearby and placed ourselves well, waiting eagerly for the menu.

Just then, when we were merrily whispering about the special day, a waiter overheard us without our cognizance. He approached us asking for our favourite menu. My wife ordered a one for two, Veg pizza with extra cheese, for both of us. While we were waiting, waiter reappeared with a farm size pizza with extra cheese. I was about to enquire about the size when he interjected me with the greeting and a broad smile for our anniversary. He then informed us, how he came to know and how their place organizes a free treat for the couples on their special day.

Well, I was already feeling my pocket pinched after an exhaustive shopping spree along with a large ravenous appetite. I was simply overdelighted with that free offer of our choice. My wife’s eyes gleamed too and we together acknowledged it as the best gift on that ceremonial occasion.

Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 Why do we like free gifts?

Sample answer: A gift coming for free happens usually on particular special occasions like birthday, marriage and so on. But receiving one on some unusual day just springboards our surprise and joy. Getting something when one is not prepared to spend comes as a luxury.

Q. 2 Why do restaurants and shopping centres give free gifts?

Sample answer: In the present scenario of cutthroat competition, enterprises play several marketing stints to attract the customers. Offering free gifts on some occasions is a subset of that marketing propaganda to increase the no. of footfalls.

Q. 3 Do freebies really turn into motivation for customers to revisit?

Sample answer: Yes, many times, for majority of the people, it definitely leaves an alluring impression. Such freebies act as inducements, especially when the gift is likeable and the routine items sold by the shop are not of very inferior quality.

Q. 4 Can the excess of free gifts have the negative impact too?

Sample answer: Yes, indeed. Excess disbursing of free items can lead to an altogether different perspective about the enterprise, in the minds of customers. They may feel sceptical about the quality or they might just be addicted to that free item only. In this case, strength of the genuine customers might be affected adversely.
