    • Where and with whom you went ?
    • Could you let me know what you observed ?
    • And explain how you felt when you saw the stars.

Sample Answer

Since childhood, I had an immense interest in aeronautical science. Information related to space would always fascinate me. I guess, I inherited this interest from my grandfather who would always share stories related to planets and stars. He used to work at the space research team in India. My grandfather has narrated to me the numerous benefits of sky gazing. According to him, if anyone is searching for peace, calm, and a sense of purpose during this period of immense chaos, sky gazing proves to be the best alternative as it helps to ease our minds and rejuvenate our spirits. Apart from that, it makes us more compassionate toward others. I can easily recall many incidents when I would observe stars with my grandfather. But today, I will be mentioning a time when I observed the stars alone. It was in 2021, I used to work as an accountant in a company. I had a hectic day at work and was completely drained out. After having dinner I went straight to the terrace where I usually have a stroll. I plugged in earphones and tuned into my favorite song. While walking I was gazing at the sky. Meanwhile, I noticed a bright light falling from the sky, at first I thought it was just a light pole but I was wrong. Watching closely I realized it was a shooting star. Some say that Shooting stars can fulfill a wish hence I quickly made a wish. I am not sure whether it is going to get fulfilled but I still did it. After spending an hour on the terrace I felt relaxed and more rejuvenated than before. I think sky gazing therapy is quite underrated if compared with its benefits. I have recommended this activity to my friends and colleagues to which I have received a good response.

Q3. Would children be benefited from watching stars ?

Certainly, they will l get to learn about various stars’ patterns formed in the sky. Besides, they will learn how sailors used to navigate by looking at the stars before the invention of the compass.

Q4. Would you like to watch movies on planets ?

Definitely, I would love to as mentioned before I am very much interested to learn about planets. I have watched many Hollywood movies about space and found them really gripping. CUE CARD -Describe a thing you did to learn another language

Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a thing you did to learn another language
You should say:

    • What language did you learn ?
    • What did you do ?
    • How does it help you learn the language?
    • And how do you feel about it ?

Sample Answer

In the era of globalization, knowing your native language is not enough. The world is becoming increasingly globalized and knowing a second language can always give you an unfair advantage. Learning a second language opens up the opportunity for being part of a community with a different culture, and learn more about the world around us. As I am planning to move abroad, I thought it would be prudent to learn an additional language as it will be easier for me to communicate with the natives. So, the country I would be moving in is Canada, and French is the second language spoken in Canada. Therefore, I decided to learn this language.

For that, I started looking for the best institute, after searching for more than an hour. I came across the top-rated academy in my town, I immediately booked my appointment. The institute had a great learning atmosphere. The staff was really friendly; they clearly explained the vital details about the class.

I was full of beans to attend class the next day. My class strength was not much so it was easy for both the trainer and students to have a smooth flow of knowledge. Initially, I would feel nervous and stressed but my trainer was quite helpful and had proficient knowledge of the language, and used different new ways to make learning fun. She insisted me to watch French movies with English subtitles.

Another way I powered up my language learning progress was by listening to French songs over and over again to the point that the words are stuck in my head. Arguably it was one of the easiest methods for learning French, especially, if you’re not being exposed to French regularly as I was when I was learning. I took that course for 3 months and learned umpteen new things about the language.

Once the course was completed they took my assessment which I cleared with flying colors. I felt proud of myself and gained the confidence to communicate with the natives, however, I am not so fluent in it but I am pretty sure that I will not face any language barrier whenever I visit abroad. Overall, it was a wonderful experience learning a new language, and would recommend others to widen their horizon of language.

Speaking -Part 3 (Follow up questions)
Here are some examples of follow up questions that examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3) related to cue card ‘Describe a thing you did to learn another language’.

Q1. What difficulties do people face when learning a language ?

I reckon the biggest obstacle while learning a language can be as simple as a loss of motivation. No matter how excited you are at the beginning, you will encounter the inevitable slump. Another reason would be lack of opportunity to practice the language creates a hindrance to learning it. It’s also challenging to learn how to think in another language. Above all, it takes time, hard work, and dedication.

Q2. What is the best way to learn a language ?

According to me practicing it with people who are fluent in it, while having friends or study buddies is always a great idea, I you know someone who is a native speaker of the language you are trying to learn. Moreover, people who want to take advantage of one of the best ways to learn a language from the comfort of their own homes should watch a movie related to the language they will be able to grasp more.

Q3. Which is better, to study alone or to study in a group ?

Everyone have different study strategies. I think students who choose to study alone can focus completely on the material. Whereas, studying in a group students are more likely to get distracted. Group studying hampers creativity and efficiency and when there are exams on the horizon, efficiency should be the priority.

Q4. Do you think language learning is important? Why ?

Learning is not unique to humans and has continued all over the world throughout the history of human life. Several scientific studies have shown that lifelong learning activities can help people maintain better brain function as they age. Learning a second language opens up the opportunity for being part of a community with a different culture and learning more about the world around us. Besides, it increases the chances of landing a good job or advancing in one’s career.

CUE CARD -Talk about an important river or lake in your country or hometown

Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Talk about an important river or lake in your country or hometown.
You should say:

    • What water body is that ?
    • How do you know about it?
    • Why does it impress you so much?

Sample Answer

India is a diverse country and it is known for its charismatic natural beauty of which rivers also form an integral part of. Today, I would like to talk about a river which is crucial to our Indian geography, the Ganges. This river is not a mere water body, but holds a sentimental value in the heart of Indians, especially Hindus, who worship it and consider it pivotal to their existence.

I think that it is quite impossible to not know about Ganga, as the river stretches across the country passing through different states and gathers a lot of tributaries on the way. I first came to know about it from my grandfather who told me a very interesting mythological story about its arrival on earth, by the tough penance and prayers of the mythological character, Bhagirath. I was quite stunned after hearing the story, and tried to Google about it. To my astonishment, I came to realise that the river originates from the highest glaciers of the Himalayan mountain range from where the river Bhagirathi originates and confluences at Alaknanda.

The reason why I am intrigued by this river is, because of its geographical significance to my nation. The river is somehow a reminder of life on Earth. It is home to many aquatic animals like, fishes. Apart from this, it is also used to generate electricity using hydro-electric dams that are built on it. Sadly, today in the name of development we are actually exploiting the river and its resources by polluting it with industrial effluents, and, the domestic waste that are being released into it. But, that does not decrease its spiritual value among people and they still tend to worship and pray on the occasions as they belief it washes off all the sins of the past and the present life. Thus, the river does not form the part of belief system of Hindus, but rather is considered to be a belief system in itself.

Overall, Ganga is the river which is quite popular in my hometown.

Speaking -Part 3 (Follow up questions)
Here are some examples of follow up questions that examiner may ask during your speaking (part 3) related to cue card ‘talk about an important river or lake in your country or hometown’.

Q1. Why do many people like going to places with water such as lakes, river or seas?
This is because there are many recreational activities related to water, that people like to indulge themselves in, it provides them a sense of adventure in life, and brings them calm and peace of mind. Some of the water activities that people like to do are, boating, fishing, river rafting and surfing. Thus, many individuals like going to places with water.

Q2. Do children and old people relax in the same ways when they go to beach?
Well, I was not expecting this question. To be honest, I do think so, because the children are full of energy and enthusiasm. So, they tend to put their energy to more of the adventurous activities like scuba diving rather than the simpler water exercises. On the other hand, the older people generally sit on the beach and enjoy the sunrise and the sunset. Therefore, the young people and old people relax differently, whenever, they go to beach.
