In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing.

Academic Writing Task-1
Question: In the developed world, average life expectancy is increasing.
What problems will this cause for individuals and society? Suggest some measures that could be taken to reduce the impact of ageing populations.

Sample Answer:

Owing to sophistication in technology and rapid advancements made in medical sciences, in this day and age, the average life expectancy is elevating in the industrialized nations. However, this phenomenon is tend to create a detrimental impact on mankind and community. In this essay, I will delve into the same and also propose some viable solutions to alleviate the drawbacks comes with surging aged populace.

Substantially, in terms of individual plights, the most prominent one would be enormous financial burden and mental pressure. To explain this, the body of golden agers is normally frail and fragile which, in turn, makes them incapable or incompetent to perform household chores or run errands on their own. Consequently, demanding more attention and care from their offsprings and for this reason, usually housewives have to sacrifice their life staying at home taking care of their medicines and meals; resultantly, bringing mental pressure to them, and further to deal with it, if hiring house help , again it will be a financial strain on a breadwinner of a family. To top it off, this age is more prone or vulnerable to fatal ailments such as diabetes and cardiac problems which tend to consume a substantial proportion of a family’s income. Hence, this trend could result in wastage of manpower and money.

Moving further, as far as effect on society is concerned, primarily, as the retired people soar, it not only dwindles the workforce in the labour professions but also elevates pension responsibilities. This will certainly going to be a disturbing factor in the economic level of a country since shrinking workforce means less tax revenue, eventually disrupting the budget of other significant domains. Additionally, being the responsible government, investments have to be made in healthcare department by building more hospitals to ensure the well-being of their citizens. As a result, putting immense pressure on the administration.

Turning to the pragmatic solutions which could be implemented to combat this issue. The pivotal among them is revision of pension policy. To be precise, normally the retirement age is 60, increasing it to 65 or 70 would make a big difference considering in mind that they are fit. Another way to address this plight would be persuading them to lead a more productive and healthy lifestyle by either eating a balanced diet or indulging in exercises such as mindfulness meditation, gardening or a regular walk. This will make them less dependent on their children.

In conclusion, ageing populations can have some notable implications on government and and individual lifestyles such as financial pressures and instability in economy; however, this can be addressed by adopting above mentioned methods.

IELTS Essay : Restoration of old buildings involves enormous expenditure

Restoration of old buildings involves enormous expenditure. Some people believe that this money should be used for building new housing structures. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:

Development of a country depends on its quality of infrastructure. It is often believed that finances should be contributed towards the latest construction of brand new buildings, rather than renovation of old  places. I will discuss this notion in impending paragraphs and would reach on a valid conclusion

Beginning with, money should be given towards the new structure because of its modernised features. Many individuals want to upgrade their quality of living which is closely associated with the luxury one can afford, which is why people invest in construction of new spaces. Furthermore, these practical features also ensure safety within a space. Modern day kitchen chimneys, stabilisers, fire alarms are a good example of advanced technology that protects one from accidents. To put it clearly, modern time homes are much needed due to the evolution of technology. Also, we cannot neglect that structures such as apartments can accommodate an increasing population.

Alternatively, renovation of a building should be done as it holds cultural and emotional sentiments of a community. Many ancient temples, all over the globe, are not demolished despite its withering condition. Moreover, these places can earn a good revenue, if turned into a tourist spot. Hence, it will not cost a fortune from public funds, and would act as a source of a rising economy. One lucid illustration of this is palaces of Rajasthan, India. The palace owners have integrated with world renowned hotel changes in order to offer royal experience to an individual in return for money. Adding to this, people will have an example of old construction and would be aware of the past.

To conclude, I hold a mixed opinion on this notion because while new establishments will have modern features, we can also not deny that old properties will have emotions attached to it.

IELTS Essay : Visitors to other countries should follow local customs

Some believe that visitors to other countries should follow local customs and behaviour. Others disagree and think that the host country should welcome cultural differences. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Sample Answer:

In recent times, travelling to international destinations has become a trend. With this a few individuals believe that travellers must follow the local culture of the serving country, whereas, the opposite believes they shall be given the freedom to follow the custom as per their preferences. I will discuss both the viewpoints in impending paragraphs and reach a logical conclusion.

Undoubtedly, following the customs of any local place would diversify the cultural knowledge of an individual as one person can get an in-depth knowledge of the host country’s culture. Resultantly, their perception about its culture would definitely improve. India would be a clear example of this since many global personalities have over the time claimed India to be a culturally rich nation.

Alternatively, freedom of cultural preference should be provided to a visitor for numerous reasons. Firstly, any individual wants to feel comfortable on vacation; if given a choice to follow their personal tradition, one can fully enjoy their leisure time. As a result, only that individual is likely to visit that place again as they felt relaxed and at-home while visiting this country.
In my perspective, following the local customs is much preferable as the visitors will be able to explore more. If they are ready to accept the new culture, local citizens would also take a keen interest in comprehending the cultural references for them.
In conclusion, although it is important to rejuvenate while on a vacation, I believe following a country’s local rituals would enhance one’s knowledge and also make them familiar with local people.

IELTS BAND7 Cue card Talk about a situation when you had to wait

Sample Answer:

Nobody likes to wait. Specially in these modern times, people have lost their patience because of the fast-moving technical era. In today’s world, everything is fast and quick. Be it the speedy delivery of food that we order on Swiggy and Zomato or ordering items on Blinkit. Even I am such a person who does not like to wait. However, there was a situation where I had to wait for a long time, and today I would like to discuss it. So this is a recent incident when my younger brother was appearing for his competitive examinations. He recently did his schooling, and he enrolled for a competitive exam, which is NEET. This exam happened in the month of August this year, and I went along with him to the examination center. The whole situation was quite stressful, and my brother was nervous for his exam. On our way, I was trying to calm him down. As soon as we reached the examination center, he went inside and started doing all the preparation procedures. I could see him standing in the queue, and I was waiting outside on a bench under a tree. Within 15 minutes, the whole queue had cleared up, and my brother went inside the examination hall, and I lost his sight. Now I had to wait for him till he completed his paper. His exam was for three long hours, and it was a hot, sunny day. For the first hour, I was just watching reels on my mobile phone, and the time passed easily, but soon my phone’s battery went low, and I had to keep my phone aside. It was now that I realized that it would get difficult for me to pass the time for the next two hours. The climate was getting more hot, and I was thirsty, so I walked out of the examination center to find a shop where I could buy a chilled water bottle. I couldn’t find any shops nearby, but luckily I saw a cafe. So I went to this cafe, and it had a very cozy corner where I sat and ordered some coolers and a sandwich for myself. I finished eating. I saw There was a magazine in this cafe, so I picked it up and started reading it. Soon I realized an hour had already passed. It was a great relief for me after eating and reading, and I went back to the examination center and started waiting on the same bench, but this last or seemed the most difficult to pass. The sun was on my head, and I was sweating. I realized that coming back to the examination center was a bad idea and I should have stayed at the cafe itself. After 10–15 minutes, I saw four little kids approaching the tree under which I was sitting. These kids came there to play, and I asked them if I could join. They were very happy to have my company, and we played for the rest of the time. This was the best thing that I did that day. It was very relaxing to play with the kids, and I relived my childhood. While playing, I suddenly heard the bell ringing, and it was the alarm about the examination’s ending. I waited for another five minutes for my brother to come out, and I was really happy to see him and hear that his exam really went well. So this was the longest time I had to wait however it was not that boring as I thought it would be.
