Colors Speaking Section

Colors are everywhere and every individual his/her own tastes in colors. There are some who have a particular taste, and then there are some who like every color equally. No matter what is your opinion about color, you surely do have an opinion. Questions related to colors are even asked in the Part I of the speaking section. Let us have a look at some of the questions that could be asked in IELTS related to color.

  1. Do you have a favorite color?

Well, I really do like all the colors but shades of violet are the ones I mostly prefer.

2. Do you think colors affect our moods?

I think yes. Colors do have some effect on our moods. For example-: red usually gives that feeling of excitement or love or anger, depending on the individual. White calms our minds.

3. Can you learn anything from the color an individual likes?

Well, psychology does says that we can know about the individual from the color they like. For example, people who like purple are often considered more artistic while those who like white are termed to be more organized.

4.  Do you like the same colors as you liked in your childhood?

Well, my choice of favorite color has changed a lot many times since childhood. There was a time when I like black and then red. It is only in recent times that I have stuck with violet.

IELTS Academic Writing Task : Changes in Sunburn City

Sample Answer

The two maps represent the changes which have taken place in Sunburn City over a period of 25 years from 1985 to 2010. In the given period, infrastructural development was done on a large scale, although, trees were also cut down massively.

All individual houses were demolished in the north east to construct a new stadium. Moreover, new railway tracks were extended towards north, along the sea. The forest area was also converted into a beautiful amusement park. All the dwellings and trees were cleared in the area adjacent to the railway station and replaced by warehouses. A marina was also built at the estuary.

The single accommodations were replaced by skyscrapers on the bank of Delta river .In addition, the school area was also relocated and enlarged, in the close proximity of skyscrapers. The woodland area was also cleared for the airport relocation .Next to the new airport, many factories were set up, in the east.

To conclude, a comparison of the maps reveals that the city has changed dramatically. The green city was converted into an industrial zone by making end to end changes to facilitate economic growth.

IELTS General Training Task 1: a business letter

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear ………………..

Sample Answer:

Dear Mr Johnson,

I wish to take up your job proposal which you so generously offered to me during our flight to London from Italy on the 12th of March this year. You offered me your business card after hearing my plight for work after my employer fired me due to shortage of money.

I wish to apply to your renowned restaurant chain “Seasonal Secret” as a Sous (second in command) or Senior (lower in command chain) chef.

Formally I have worked for “Pasta Palace” in Italy, Rome as a tournant (general station manager) and saucier (in charge of side dish and main sauces) chef. My previous employment not only granted me work experience but also an insight into the culinary world, its expectations and ethics.

Currently I have expertise in over 53 gourmet dishes, of which most are included on the special menu in your chain. My forte lies in consommé, vegan and meat charcuteries, pappardelle, Italian risotto and a host of other delicacies including beef wellington and turducken. In deserts my pièce de résistance would be baumkuchen, a German delicacy which I am sure you are familiar with. Baked Alaska and pâté feuilletée are also some of my talents. Naturally most of these dishes cannot be prepared on a whim and do require a good amount of preparation time.

I believe I have all the qualities required to become a Sous chef, including the team management and crisis handling abilities which are often overlooked parts of this career path. My educational qualifications include a degree in ‘Culinary Arts’ from St Albus College, Ravenna. For further information regarding my academic background my CV is attached.

I do look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Doupain
