CUE CARD – Describe an advertisement that you don’t like.

Speaking -Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe an advertisement that you don’t like. You should say:

    • When did you see it?
    • What it is about?
    • Where you saw it?
    • Why you didn’t like it?
Sample Answer

Advertisements are the heart and soul of business as it aids in generating the revenue and a good customer base. In this modern era, advertising firms are broadcasting their advertisements in a luring manner. Well, I am a movie buff. I vividly remember a time when I was watching a movie by being a couch potato on a lazy weekend, an ad popped up on my laptop’s screen and it was stating about a face cream which will eventually helps a person to become fair in complexion, which according to me was so demeaning because it was something promoting that fair complexion is all that matters. In that ad a girl who had dusky colour was worked out as she was not fair. So her friend came up to her and gave her the cream named FAIR AND LOVELY. Though that costed her an arm and a leg but she somehow purchased it and after applying it for one entire month she didn’t get any kind of change which made her even more sad.
After viewing these derogatory things I felt blue because complexion is something that an individual cannot change and should not even try to alter it. Complexion is an individuals identity.

Pacing back to the month of March, the society in which I live organized an event to celebrate the festival of colors, which in India is popularly known as “Holi”. This festival is celebrated each year with zeal and enthusiasm by the followers of Hindu religion. While celebrating this festival, people plat with colors and have a varied selection of dishes to choose from. All the members of our locality contributed a fixed amount to the chosen president for this function. Ever since this function was decided to be celebrated, everyone had been keenly looking forward for it to arrive. On the day of the event, all of the members were full of joy and happiness. On a long table, different colors were placed on plates for the people to use and play with. Everyone there was exchanging greetings and sweets with each other. One could feel the togetherness present in the air that day. Big speakers blew in full volume with amazing Bollywood songs to set the mood of fun. Colors flew in the air as everyone was splashing on them on each other. Some were even using colored water through water cannons. There was harmony among all of us. To sum up, I’d say that it was one of the events where I felt the most present in the moment. It gave me a new beginning as I forgot all the hatred and sorrow that I had faced before this celebration.

Q2. Do you think it is important to celebrate events?

Well, I partially agree with this statement as even though I do believe that life’s a short path and every little achievement deserves its own celebration, however, not everybody on this planet is fortunate enough to conduct a grand celebration due to limited financial resources.

Describe something you taught your friend/relative.

You should say:

    • And explain how you felt about it?
Sample Answer

My cousin would always worry about her mother’s loneliness as she is a working professional, so she can’t spend much time with her. Her mother would often complain to her about her boredom. So she gifted her mother a smartphone, which could help her kill time and not get bored at home. I used to visit their home quite often, so my cousin requested that I help her with the technology as my aunt had zero knowledge about it. I had my classes too; we mutually agreed on the time that would suit both of us. I begin by teaching her how to make calls and use social media apps like YouTube and Instagram. My aunt is an avid Gardner, so I recommended that she follow some channels that post content in her genre. Initially, I had a lot of difficulty making her understand the complexities of a smartphone. I was amazed by the inquisitiveness and learning enthusiasm my aunt had. Her dedication made me not give up on her. Within a month, my aunt was able to use the phone without anyone’s help. Now she could make calls and watch videos. Learning this helped her get out of her loneliness. My cousin and aunt thanked me for the help. I consider that teaching is one of the most difficult tasks to perform, and I did that pretty well.
