Request Compensation or Refund # IELTS Letter

Topic – Complaint Letter

You had a meal at a restaurant. You are not happy with the service. Write a letter to the manager to complain about it. Give details about the problems and request compensation or refund.
Write at least 150 words.

Answer – (Level Band 6.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a regular customer at your restaurant because of the excellent quality and an array of delicious meals that you offer on your menu. This is regarding the meal I had at your restaurant last week. I took my friend for dinner whom I had raved to about your delectable cuisine.

Both my friend and I sat and went through the menu to decide the order. As we sat there, neither did anyone fill up our water glasses, nor did they come to take the order. I had to literally go up to the front desk to request the water as well as place the order. Even after having placed the order, our meal arrived an hour later and that too cold. It was quite embarrassing and disappointing for me as I had given excellent reviews about your food and service to my friend.

After finishing the unsatisfactory meal, I still paid for the food and left a tip for the service staff. I am unsure about the reason for such sloppy and distasteful service and it would be nothing except common courtesy to refund the bill. I request you to look into this matter so that I would once again be confident to visit your restaurant.

Answer(Level Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in regard to the mobile phone that I purchased from your store which is a Samsung Galaxy S 6. When I used this phone initially, it worked smoothly but after 2 days it began giving trouble as the screen would go off. This kept happening at an interval of nearly every half hour and this problem kept aggravating.

I tried switching off the phone and restarting it but somehow it did not make any difference. After sometime, it gave up completely and now I cannot switch it on at all. All my contacts and files are in the phone which I am unable to access and this problem is hampering my business as I cannot make or take any calls.

I earnestly request you to look for a solution to this problem by either changing the phone or fixing the same as soon as possible. I would appreciate it if this could be done at the earliest as time is of the essence here.

Yours Sincerely,

Jagbeer Kaur

Answer

Dear Amit,

I am writing to you to get some information about the course which I am planning to pursue from London where you currently reside. As I have insufficient knowledge about the colleges there, I thought of you as the best person to guide me.

I have been working in the area of Banking and Finance for nearly 8 years after having completed my bachelor degree in Finance. I have come to this point in my life where I have gained immense practical experience but somehow I feel the need to upgrade my current skill-set. Thereby, I wish to complete a Masters in Banking and Finance from a college in London.
I have searched for many colleges which offer this degree but the more I try to do so the more confused I get. As you are based in London, you would be the right person to advise me about the most suitable colleges that impart education in my area of interest.

I would be truly obliged if you could send me some information regarding the most feasible institutions which provide courses in banking and finance, so that I can decide and apply for the course as soon as possible.

Yours truly,
Kavita from Dehradun

SAMPLE ANSWER

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in regards to my decision to leave the job as the software engineer with your company.

It was really great working with you and the opportunities that you have provided me, I can’t stop being grateful for them. The first day of office still flashes back and it is only by looking back I realize the amazing connection, moments and time that I had here.

However, I have got selected for an internship in Fox India as a travel journalist. This has been a dream assignment for me as writing is the place where my heart is and combined with travel, I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Although there is my dream waiting for me, leaving the company that has helped me grow both professionally and personally is very tough for me and I would miss the people here.

Please accept this letter as notification that I am leaving my position on September 15.

Yours sincerely,

Anmol.
