IELTS CUE CARD # Describe a city that you think, is very interesting

Sample Answer :

Every place has its own defining characteristics that make it unique in its own sense. Some places have the historical significance while others hold the religious and cultural essence. Similarly, some places have the scenic landscapes and others are the commercial occupational hubs. I believe, that the city, having an adequate blend of all, can be quoted as an interesting city in its own rights. I feel Jaipur, capital city of state Rajasthan as a very interesting city. I not only visited the city a number of times, but I also stayed here a couple of days altogether.

First time, I visited this place was, when I was in my high school. We had this Inter Public School Debate Competition, at one of the splendid schools of the country, MGD Jaipur. We were accommodated there for three days. Our school stood second in that competition and I was fourth in individual’s rankings. During my stay at school campus, I visited some of the historical landmarks in the city Jaipur. Amber fort in the outskirts of city, is a fabulous vastness built on the remnants of Aravalli hills. Hawa Mahal built by Maharana Pratap is an architectural marvel built in the heart of the pink city. Apart from that, Jantar Mantar and science observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh in 18th century reflects the scientific temper possessed by Indian rulers.

This city is surrounded by Aravalli, which offer it a marvellous scenic landscape. Moreover, Jaipur is a thriving industrial and commercial centre too. Centres of excellence, in traditional art and culture can be seen all around the city. New city is designed and built alongside the old one, which helps in the preservation of old, along with the trade and commerce mushrooming in the new one. This beautiful amalgam in the city makes it adaptive for various strata of people. So, all these things together make Jaipur a very interesting city for me.

Follow-up Questions

Q. 1 Do you like visiting places? Why?

Sample answer: Yes, a lot. I like visiting different places in India and I am very fond of visiting places outside too. Well, different places have different kinds of climate, vegetation, people and their cultures. All these varieties bring colours to the observation. Such multidimensional view of the world not just informs you about so many new things but it also comes as a pure entertainment.

Q. 2 Do you think that cities which are good in landscapes and weather are getting congested?

Sample answer: I think that, wherever this commerce and rapid urbanization takes place, there has to be the deterioration of the overall aesthetic aspects of the place. Take for instance Shimla city. It is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. If I just glance through all these years, I can see some evident changes related to commerce and congestion out there. Ecology has been severely hit by rapid footfalls, when one finds the shortage of food, water and accommodation at such a beautiful place. Traffic congestion and installation of air conditioners in shops and homes is something which the city never deserved.

Q. 3 Do you think there should be a controlled flow of tourists to hilly and religious destinations?

Sample answer: Yes, considering the fast pace of transport and communications infrastructure, increasing no of personal vehicles and higher spending power of our citizens, there has been a rapid spurt in the influx of tourists to such destinations. Therefore, the ecological balance of these places have been hit very badly in last two decades. Hence, I strongly affirm that the govt should come up with a policy to regulate the tourist flow and stop these beautiful places from getting further degraded.

Cue card: A foreign city you would like to visit

IELTS Speaking Cue card # A foreign city you would like to visit

Describe a foreign city you would like to visit
You should say:

  • Its name.
  • How and when you would go there?
  • Who you would go with?

and explain why you would like to visit this city.

Sample Answer

I love traveling and exploring new places. Today, I’m going to talk about a foreign city I wish to visit. It’s London, the capital of United Kingdom.  Since London is about 7000 km from my hometown, the only viable modes of transport to reach there are water and air. If I were to choose between these two modes, I’d prefer a flight because it’ll take less time as compared to a cruise. From safety and economic points of view as well, I think going by air is definitely the better option.

Talking about the time when I’ll go to London, I haven’t yet decided, maybe in summer this year. I don’t know who I’d take with me but it would probably be some people that are close to me, I feel that visiting a new place is more fun if you’re with your family or friends. I’ll have a word with my parents and friends, whoever wants to come with me is welcome.

Coming to the many reasons why I want to visit London, I guess the main reason would be my fascination with history and art. You see, London is one of the oldest multicultural cities in the world. I’ve read about the changes which transformed this city into a center of history, art, business, and education through many of its conquests of the world. And thus, London is home to world-class museums and art galleries, all having a different and unique story behind them.

Other than that London also happens to have the oldest underground railway system in the world. To visit the most popular tourist attractions of London has been on my bucket list for a long time. These include the London Bridge, National Art Gallery, and the British Museum. I’ve heard that the bakeries in London are some of the best out there. I’d love to see what they have to offer.

IELTS CUE CARD # Describe something you bought but did not use much.

IELTS SPEAKING TASK # CUE CARD

Describe something you bought but did not use much.
You should say:

  • What you bought?
  • When you bought it?
  • Why you bought it?

and explain why you didn’t use it much.

SAMPLE ANSWER-

Sometimes, we buy things we think we actually need but we regret that later. Being an impulsive buyer, I usually end up buying things that seem attractive at first but later I realize their futility. Not long ago, I bought a fancy home theatre system for my room. Though my parents were totally against it, I somehow convinced them to let me buy one. It was a newly launched Japanese company’s home theatre system.

Recently, when my room was getting renovated, I wanted to bring some changes to it. After convincing my parents, it kept an accurate consideration of the space required for the home theatre. To install the system, the walls and ceiling of my room needed modification so that it looked completely fit with the surrounding. Therefore, I got my room renovated coming the home theatre in mind.

Being a movie enthusiast, I always dreamt of having a home theatre installed in my house so that I could binge watch my favorite films and TV series. When I saw its advertisement, it really fascinated me. It was the most advanced Home theatre system in the market which offered an excellent audio quality. The realistic 3D sound effect promised theatre like experience.

After using it for a few weeks, I got preoccupied with studies and used it very occasionally. Rearranging the entire system for every use used to be very unhandy for me. As I’m not very technically sound, I find difficulty operating the system due to which I use it very rarely.
