Speaking – Part 2 (Cue Card)

Describe a historic place you know

  • What kind of place it is?
  • What does it look like?
  • Where it is?
  • And explain how the place is related to history
Sample Answer

Historic structures serve as a reminder of our rich history and former splendour. Since I was little, I have always been fascinated by history. I used to read a lot and study the history of ancient times. I never pass up the opportunity to tour historical sites. It’s an intriguing encounter. I paid my aunt, who resides in Delhi, a visit last year. I had the chance to explore the Red Fort, one of India’s most popular tourist destinations, there. It is among the world’s seven wonders. It’s a massive red-painted palace. It was our first visit there.

The enormous gate that welcomed us was a stunning work of art. Many notable historical buildings remain, including Hira Mahal, Mumtaz Mahal, Rang Mahal, Meena Bazaar, and many more, despite the fact that the majority of buildings are either shattered or severely damaged. With a long history, Meena Bazaar is a well regarded destination for retrophiliac and antiquarian enthusiasts. In the past, it was mostly exclusive to women—royal ladies and noblemen’s wives, to start. It used to happen exclusively on designated days of the week or on significant occasions.

Nowadays, Meena Bazar is held every day from the afternoon till the evening, which has somewhat modified the situation. In addition to the massive garden’s doubled attractiveness due to its abundance of seasonal flowers and plants, I also saw a few peacocks. Overall, the Red Fort is a symbol of great Mughal architecture and prowess in the past.

travel Best IELTS Band 7 Coaching in dehradun

Sample Answer

Travelling is wonderful to experience and learn new things. I am a person who enjoys travelling and exploring new places. Travelling according to me is a great way to relax and unwind while making new experiences and memories.

Talking about a faraway place, it is an island named Bali in Indonesia. One of the most charming places in the world, it is a bouquet of beauty. It is famous for its volcanic mountains, beaches, sunset scenes, coral reefs, resort towns, temples and many more local landmarks. One can relax here in many ways and there is a lot to do and to explore.

I came to know about the island from a friend who had visited there last year. I looked it up on the internet and was instantly smitten by its natural beauty. The intriguing geographical characteristics of the island make for a host of wonderful places to visit, which is really interesting. My probable visit here would be in January next year and would be relatively easier than any other country like Canada or the United Kingdom. The visa process is very easy and the travel costs are affordable. The Indonesian currency is very cheap in comparison to the Indian rupee making the food and lodging costs highly affordable for the Indian visitors.

I have already visited and explored most of the Indian states and enjoyed the things they have to offer. I now wish to explore other lands to experience new cultures, meet new people, and to have a glimpse of what the other parts of the world look like. These are a few reasons as to why I wish to travel to Bali for a vacation.

Part 3 Follow-Up Questions

Q1: Why do people like visiting different places?
People, irrespective of where they live, get bored easily and want to experience new things once in a while. It’s because of this that tourism is one of the biggest industries of the world. People want to see how other people live, what their lifestyle is like, and what kinds of food they eat. With exposure to the internet, more and more people are aware of different places and cultures and thus would like to visit these places.

Q2: With whom do you go on vacation?
I prefer to go out with my friends. Once, I went with my family on a hiking trip, and it wasn’t a pleasurable experience. My parents weren’t able to climb quickly, and because of them, I had to keep on stopping from time to time. Moreover, our tastes don’t align, and we end up arguing where we should visit and what we should do. With friends, it’s relatively simple as we all have the same taste and requirements.

Q3: What all preparations do you do when visiting new places?
First of all, the kind of clothes I am going to wear while visiting other places depends on the weather conditions of that place. If it’s warm, then, of course, I would pack light. However, if it’s going to be cold, I would have to carry double the luggage with all the coats, jackets, etc. I also take into account the local customs of the place and try to wear the clothes that are not too different from the local attire. Locals always appreciate when we take the effort to appreciate their culture and their customs.

IELTS writing task 2 – Some people feel that cities should allow for spaces for graffiti

IELTS Writing Task 2

Some people feel that cities should allow for spaces for graffiti while others feel it should be banned. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

IETLS Task 2 cities should allow for spaces for graffiti

IETLS Task 2 cities should allow for spaces for graffiti

Sample Answer:

Art and artists have always been a moot case. It is believed by many that painting graffiti on blank areas should be permitted whereas, others contradict and posit that it must be forbidden. Both views have compelling arguments, yet I assert with the former view which will be discussed in the forthcoming essay.

Undoubtedly, graffiti enhances the beauty of the locations they are drawn on. Its colourful composition and variety in the artistic expression makes it a visually appealing art piece. In its recent development, the city of Dehradun for example witnessed hundreds of such paintings throughout its citywalls. Moreover, such paintings are an opportunity for underprivileged people to showcase their artistic abilities without using much resources.

Nevertheless, people may demand to ban such paintings due to their rebellious nature. Evidently, graffiti depicts rebellion and at times promotes false agendas or even anger of civilians towards authority. The Lennon, a famous wall graffiti in Prague, is an illustration of such a display of aggression towards the government. Apart from this, such murals also damage public property for which no one can be held responsible due to its anonymous nature.

In my opinion, authorising spaces for graffiti will aid in spreading awareness. Etnias, Brazil, for instance, was drawn for the Olympic games to convey the message of togetherness and peace. Hence, street art must be given its due permission.

To recapitulate, in my perspective, urban art must not be prohibited as it enhances the appearance of the city and is exclusive in nature. However, some guidelines shall be provided for smooth and fair practices of such display of art.

IELTS Cue Card – Describe someone in the news you would like to meet.

IELTS Speaking Task Cue Card:

Someone in the news you would like to meet.

  • Who the person is?
  • What they do?
  • Why they are in the news?
  • And explain why you would like to meet them.

Sample Answer

There are innumerable mortals in the news, who often catch the news headlines of newspapers like politicians, singers, etc. Here I’d like to talk about Mukesh Ambani, a famous Indian billionaire business merchant also the chairman, managing director, and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Limited. He, with his father, established India’s first private oil refinery at Gujarat that can produce about 33 million tonnes of oil per year.
He is currently the richest man of Asia and the 9th richest man in the world with a net worth of 21 billion dollars and lives in the world’s most big-budget private residence, whose value is approximately US$2 billion.
I saw him in the broadcast a few months back when I was watching the news, and there was information about him, that he donated 100 million dollars to Prime Minister’s emergency fund during the coronavirus pandemic. He shared that his money is of no value if he can’t help the citizens of his country. This quality affected me and had left a positive impact on me. Even though he has obtained a good reputation, he is very down to earth. Apart from this, he is a member of many non-state associations and does a lot of charity work.
I think he is not only intelligent and sympathetic, but also a successful businessman. Because of the fact that he manages his assets in such an effective manner. I have an eager ambition to meet this business tycoon in real life, so that I can learn some of his characteristics. I want to meet this big-hearted person and thank him for his kind step towards humanity. If I get a chance to meet him, I will not miss the boat.

Part 3 Follow-Up Questions

Q1. What types of people become famous in your country?
In my opinion, people, who work in the film industry and play sports, usually become famous in my country rather quickly. And politicians don’t lag very far behind them either. However, the difference is that famous people in the film industry and sports are “eminent” because most of the average citizens genuinely like them because of their creativity and performance while people “like” famous politicians out of “fear”.

Q2. What qualities does a person need to have to be famous?
I believe, that, becoming a famous and “successful” person is not a piece of cake. But, a person can become famous by winning against all the challenges and battles, thrown at him or her, because of carrying certain qualities in his or her life. And, some of these qualities are ‘passion, persistence (or patience), hard work, positive attitude, self-reliance, self-confidence, integrity, and rock-strong willpower’. Of course, a person also needs to have his or her fair share of “luck” as well to become famous. But, of all these qualities, I would say that “patience” may prove to be the most important and decisive factor in attaining “fame” as one may need to wait a long time to achieve it.

Q3. Describe how famous people influence the public.
Famous people, be they in sports, politics, cinema, or business can influence and inspire people with their talent, hard work, sincerity, and styles. Sometimes, the way they lead personal lives, and handle problems and relationships, can set examples for the general public. But, the problem is, sometimes, people tend to forget about their responsibilities as they may not be able to accept the mistakes of their favorite celebrity and they even try to justify the mistakes committed by them, which can be misleading for the rest of the general public.
