Celebrations are part of life that gives life to our lives. Special events become reunions, allowing far-flung family members to see each other in the context of celebrating their loved ones and bringing people together in unity, harmony, and peace. Fortunately, I have been part of numerous celebrations so today, I will be mentioning one such special event.

Just like everyone else, I eagerly wait to celebrate my birthday with my near and dear ones. My birthday happens on the 28th of January which makes January a special month for me. Last year my parents and friends arranged a surprise party for my birthday. After returning from work my friend called me to accompany her to the market. She picked me up from my place and we both left my home. Meanwhile, my parents and friends decorated the house with streamers and balloons. After spending two hours in the market we returned home. I rang the bell on my door and, to my surprise, no one came I tried to open the door, and it was unlocked. Once I opened it all my friends and family plunged from the floor and shouted out loud- “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! I was astounded.

My friends bought a special birthday cake for me. It was a chocolate cake, with juicy cherries on the top. They also presented me with a super sweet card with my photos on it. On top of that, my parents handed me a gift, I was so curious and wanted to open it right away and so I did inside it was my first laptop, I started crying in happiness as I had always wanted a laptop. Then finally we cut the cake at midnight marking the end of the day! My family and friends had given me the greatest surprise I could ever imagine. My last birthday was one of the most beautiful moments, and I will cherish it forever.

My hometown is Dehradun. It is a valley town nestled in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. Picturesque sights and natural landscapes make it one of the most beautiful places to visit in India. It is also the state capital of Uttarakhand, and is about two hundred and fifty kilometers away from the national capital, New Delhi.

For its central location and religious significance, Dehradun is colloquially known as the gateway to God’s abode. IELTS Cue Card 2024: Talk about a time when you complained about something.

Talk about a time when you complained about something.

You should know:

  • What was the issue?
  • Who did you complain about it?
  • What was the result?
  • How did you feel about it?

Sample answer:

Complaining about a product or service that we buy is a common phenomenon. I have also complained about the problems relating to the products that I purchase. Today I am going talk about one such time.

I am very fond of electronic gadgets and I always buy the latest items that are released in the market.  I recently purchased a new phone from a renowned outlet in my city. It was a smartphone and I liked it very much.

For the first two days, the phone worked well. But, after that the screen stopped working while being on charge. This sudden issue in the device both surprised and saddened me. I tried to power the device, switched on and off and followed all the steps listed in the user manual, but the problem did not solve. Eventually, I called up the customer service centre to lodge a complain and explained the issue to the executive. Initially, he made me reboot the phone and reconnect the battery. When these steps did not help at all, I was asked to bring the phone to the outlet.

I immediately went to the store and gave the phone at the counter. After checking the device, the staff on duty told me  that it was a software issue. The staff were very polite. They fixed the issue very quickly, without any extra cost. I was very happy with the prompt professional service and support provided by the staff. I thanked them and returned home with a positive experience.

IELTS Cue Card 2024: Describe a sportsperson that you admire

Describe a sportsperson that you admire.

You should know:

  • Who is the person?
  • What is their achievement?
  • Why do you admire him/her?

Sample Answer

Sports and fitness activities play an important role in everyone’s lives. Apart from keeping a person fit and healthy, one can also excel in sports to gain name and fame. Most of us follow sportsmen and athletes that play different sports and we also have personal favorites among them.

I also follow a sportsperson whom I admire and respect the most. He is Mr. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, a very well-known and esteemed ex-cricketer of the Indian national team. He is the only player who has scored a hundred centuries in his international playing career. Because of his achievements, Mr. Tendulkar is considered  as a living legend and one of the greatest batsmen of all times.

Known as the little master, he started his international cricket career at the age of 16. He surprised everyone by scoring his first century in a test match against Pakistan when not many people knew about the talent he possessed. After that, he did not stop and made many records. He has since then received many awards and accolades not only for his exceptional playing capabilities but also for his good conduct on and off the playing field. Moreover, He has received the Arjuna Award, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the Padma Shri, and the Padma Vibhushan Award.

A very simple, down to earth person, he is also very kind hearted and honest. He has played cricket in all three formats namely test matches, one-day matches, and twenty over matches. He has recently retired from his cricketing career and is now appointed as a Member of Parliament. I admire his patience, dedication, and constant aspiration to improve as an individual. He has always played with the utmost spirit of sportsmanship and I respect him for it.
